Authorities reported that arrests were made on charges including human trafficking, sexual assault, r**e, forced marriage, and modern-day slavery. Six men and three women were taken into custody. The Ahmadi Religion of Peace and Light (AROPL) is a religious sect rooted in Shia Islam and holds charity status in the UK. According to The Guardian, 150 people—56 of them children—live together within the group’s gated compound in Crewe. The group’s leader, Abdullah Hashem Aba Al-Sadiq, claims to have been appointed by Muhammad.
