That was the time Fela was still singing about our struggles.

Basic commodities were scarce and unaffordable.
Bread was sold for 10 kobo (โ‚ฆ0.10) โ€” Even with petrol at 22 kobo per litre (โ‚ฆ0.22) People couldn't afford it.

That tells you โ€” a strong currency doesnโ€™t mean a better life.

Our problem is not just the economy.

A simple government intervention could have helped:
a price monitoring committee to control the cost of essentials โ€” linking prices to minimum wage and ensuring fair profit margins for producers and traders.

Iโ€™m not even talking about luxury items โ€” just everyday necessities:
toothpaste, soap, food, rent, deodorant, tissue paper.
