BREAKING:
Old naira notes remain legal tender till December 31 — CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has finally bulged following the Supreme Court ruling on validity of old N200, N500 and N1000 notes until December 31, 2023.

The apex bank announced the development, in a statement through its spokesperson, Isa Abdulmumin, on Monday.

According to the statement, the development is “In compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle that characterized the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, and by extension, the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as a regulator, Deposit Money Banks operating in Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court ruling of March 3, 2023,” the statement reads.

“Accordingly, the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and has directed that the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes remain legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31, 2023.

“Consequently, all concerned are directed to conform accordingly.”

PROTEST IN IFIRA AKOKO OVER THE SELECTION OF A NEW KING

The people of Ifira Akoko in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo State have embarked on a protest to register their opposition to the inclusion of one Dare Aruwajoye alleged to be from Owo as one of the aspirants contesting to occupy the vacant stool of Onifira of Ifira.

The protesters in large numbers carried placards with different inscriptions warning the kingmakers not to impose a stranger to the people of ifira which they said could cause crisis in the ancient community.

They took their protest round the town and also to the house of the head of the kingmakers, Chief Aliu Kilani Sasere to confirm the genuineness of the information going round the town about the inclusion of the man they said is a stranger unknown to the people of Ifira.

BREAKING:
The four indegenes of Ikare kidnapped by unknown gunmen earlier this week have a been released and they are back safely with their families.

According to a post on Ikare Descendants-Forum, they include the Oniku of Iku-Ikare, High Chief Mukaila Bello, APC chieftain, Hon Niran Adeyemo, a communication leader Mr. Basiru Adekile and Yeye Gbafinro.

They were all released unhurt.

FIBAN Holds Membership Revalidation Exercise for Ondo Chapter

The Freelance And Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria, FIBAN has carried out a revalidation exercise for her members across the length and breath of Ondo State.

The exercise which held at the association's office in Akure was coordinated by a team led by the National General Secretary NGS, Comrade Taiwo Adebayo-Gold assisted by a member of the Board of Trustees, Chief Tomogun Olubunmi, the state chairman, Com. Femi Oguntuase, a former state chairman, Com. Niyi Adebayo and others.

In his opening address, the National General Secretary, Com. Taiwo Adebayo-Gold noted that FIBAN as a professional and the umbrella body of all independent broadcasters in Nigeria under the leadership of Com. Desmond Nwachukwu is being repositioned to empower members adding that there is no more room for ghost members and unprofessional outings.

Adebayo-Gold charged all members to cooperate with the national and State executives so as to place the association in her rightful position among other professional bodies in Nigeria.

Members came from different parts of Ondo State like Akoko, Ikale, Akure, Ilaje, Owo, Ondo, Idanre and were screened one after the other in order to verify and validate their claims as stated in the forms that were earlier filled and submitted.

New Oyo Deputy Governor Sworn In

Berrister Adebayo Lawal has been sworn in as the new Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

He was sworn in by Chief Judge, Justice Munta Abimbola, on Monday.

Lawal replaced the former deputy governor Engineer Rauf Olaniyan who was impeached earlier today.

Body of Student Who Drowned in River Dada Found

After 3 days of searching, the lifeless body of Motunrayo John a JSS 3 student of Mount Carmel Girls Secondary School, Ikare-Akoko has been found. The body was discovered at the back of an hotel at Ugbe, Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The father of late Tunrayo, Mr. Ade John an Okada rider from Iboropa Akoko described the death of his daughter as very shocking, sad and devastating. He recounted how he gave her two hundred naira on the day of the incident for her transportation her from Ikare to Iboropa if he was not available to take her home.

The Divisiona Police Officer for Ikare Akoko, Mr Olatujoye Akinwale confirmed the disvorery of the co**se.

Speaking, an education Secretary, Mr. Femi Kure described the incident as very sad urging schools and parents to have synergy on the safety of the school children.
