Why does it matter to document your rave experience?

Because one day, years from now, someone will ask you “Where were you when house music truly began writing its own Nigerian folklore?” And you will want to remember. Not just the music. But the feeling. The people. The moment.

That is exactly what Daniel Grey did.

He attended Group Therapy X RLFR Ibadan. He witnessed something special. And instead of just posting a picture and moving on, he wrote about it. He documented the feeling. He captured the memory in words.
And that matters.

This is why Evolve Magazine is opening its doors to writers in the rave scene. Because the culture needs more than Instagram captions. It needs stories. It needs perspectives. It needs writers brave enough to sit with what they experienced and translate it into something the community can hold onto forever.

Daniel Grey’s piece on Group Therapy Ibadan is exactly that kind of writing. He does not just tell you what happened. He makes you feel what happened. He walks you through the forest. He introduces you to the DJs. He lets you stand in the crowd and understand why this night became folklore.

Read it. Really read it. Click the link in bio for the full piece📰

Because this is the kind of documentation the culture deserves.

How many more pictures do we have to ask the photographer for before we can ask if he is okay?

Do we even remember to ask?

Because here is what I notice ➡️ we tag them endlessly although most of us don’t (conversation for another day)

We ask for more shots. We demand better angles. We celebrate the frames. But when was the last time you looked that photographer in the eye and asked “How are you doing?
Probably never.

We use their lens to see the world but we never look at them.

A photographer carries the emotional weight of every single rave. They witness the breakdown. They see the vulnerability. They document the joy while their own heart is breaking. And then they go home and we move on to the next event asking for more pictures.

It is time we started asking different questions.
Not “Can you shoot this rave?” but “Are you okay to shoot this rave?

Not “Send me the best shots” but “How are you actually doing?

Not tagging them in posts but checking in on their mental health.

Because photographers are not equipment. They are humans. And they are breaking in silence while we celebrate their work.

This June, let’s change that conversation.

To every photographer reading this you matter. Your wellbeing matters. Your mental health matters more than any perfect shot. And if you are struggling, please reach out. You do not have to carry this alone.

Drop a comment and tag the photographer in your life. Tell them you see them. Tell them you care. Tell them it is okay to not be okay.

Together Let’s start asking the right questions.

THIS MENTAL HEALTH SERIES IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY MR E FOR EVOLVE MAGAZINE 📰

Photographer Marj captured Kaytranada on stage during tour and we cannot stop looking at these frames.

This is artistic brilliance meeting artistic brilliance. Marj understood that capturing Kaytranada required vision. And every frame proves she has it in abundance.

The way the light hits. The way the energy translates. The way the performance becomes immortal through the lens. This is what happens when a photographer respects the artist enough to do the work justice.

Kaytranada delivered on stage. Marj delivered with the camera. The result is visual poetry. 🖤📸

The Lord’s Chosen is not a church. It is a masterclass in performance art. It is a lesson in how to build a cult of personality disguised as religious community. It is proof that in Nigeria we can turn anything into entertainment including faith.

Nigeria filmmaker sat through a Sunday and documented it. And what she found is both hilarious and heartbreaking. Hilarious because the performance is genuinely entertaining. Heartbreaking because thousands of people are looking for God and finding a show instead.

You can laugh at The Lord’s Chosen. Korty did. But you should also ask yourself ➡️ what are we actually worshiping? And is it actually faith?

Or is this just a way of selling their own version of God differently?

Week 2 with was lit because consistency at the highest level always is. Because showing up twice and delivering excellence both times is how movements are built. Because African music in Ibiza is no longer the exception it is the standard.

The echo keeps getting louder. And the whole world is hearing it.

We are asking because we need to stop pretending the DJ is always fine just because the music is good. Depression does not announce itself. Suicidal thoughts do not stop a performance. A DJ can be dying inside and still deliver the best set of the night.

If you are a DJ reading this and that question hit too close to home ➡️ you are not alone. And you do not have to keep performing through it.

She floats like a jellyfish. She glows like divinity. She is Osun reimagined.

Soft power wrapped in iridescent light. Ancient spirit dressed in ethereal fabric. The collaboration between stylist, makeup artist, and vision created something that feels less like a project and more like a ritual.

Swipe and feel the difference when every element exists to serve the vision.
