Freedom Park, located on Broad Street in Lagos Island, was once the site of the colonial-era Broad Street Prison, built in 1882. This prison held many Nigerian nationalists like Herbert Macaulay and Obafemi Awolowo during the struggle for independence. After its closure in 1979, the space was transformed by architect Theo Lawson into a cultural and historical park.

โIt was officially opened in October 2010 to commemorate Nigeriaโs 50th independence anniversary. Today, Freedom Park stands as a symbol of Nigeriaโs journey from oppression to freedomโcelebrating art, history, and unity.
