SUBJECT: FORMAL COMPLAINT OF HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, EXTORTION, ASSAULT, AND UNLAWFUL SEIZURE OF MOTORCYCLES BY OFFICERS OF EJIGBO POLICE STATION, LAGOS
INTRODUCTION
I, the undersigned, write on behalf of affected commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders operating within the Ejigbo area of Lagos State. I hereby lodge a formal complaint against officers attached to the Ejigbo Police Station, particularly the Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO), SP Danjuma, and his team, for repeated acts of harassment, extortion, assault, unlawful seizure of motorcycles, and use of threats with fi****ms.
STATEMENT OF FACTS
1. Location and pattern of operations – The said officers, often accompanied by civilian touts, regularly hide on Kogberegbe Street, near Ori-Oke Bus Stop, Ejigbo, to ambush Okada riders who lawfully ply that street.
2. Acts of violence – The officers physically assault riders, beating them with objects, leading to serious bodily injuries, including bruises, fractures, and in several cases, road accidents caused by the sudden interception of moving motorcycles.
3. Unlawful seizure – After assaulting the riders, the officers seize their motorcycles and take them to the Ejigbo Police Station.
4. Extortion for release – At the station, victims are forced to pay between ₦20,000 and ₦50,000 before their motorcycles are released. No receipt or official document is issued for these payments.
5. Use of fi****ms to intimidate – The officers and their touts brandish fi****ms to frighten riders, preventing them from fleeing or resisting the illegal seizures.
6. Previous similar incident – A similar pattern of harassment occurred on Iwamimo Street, Ejigbo, a few years ago. It was only stopped after the intervention of Honourable Kehinde Bamigbetan. That history demonstrates that these acts are not isolated but systematic.
7. Risk to lives – The sudden ambushes, beatings, and seizures have caused multiple accidents and injuries, endangering both riders and other road users.

· The Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO), Ejigbo Police Station – SP Danjuma
· Other unnamed officers of Ejigbo Police Station working with him
· Civilian touts operating in collaboration with the police
RELIEF SOUGHT
I respectfully request that the relevant authorities take the following actions:
1. Immediately order the cessation of these illegal operations on Kogberegbe Street and anywhere else within Ejigbo.
2. Conduct a full investigation into the activities of SP Danjuma and his team at Ejigbo Police Station.
3. Recall and release all motorcycles currently held at the station without payment of any illegal fees.
4. Sanction any officer found guilty of extortion, assault, unlawful seizure, or threats with fi****ms.
5. Provide a secure channel for Okada riders in Ejigbo to report future abuses without fear of retaliation.
