DNA tests in Malawi are revealing a staggering reality. About 80 percent of men who seek paternity testing after suspecting infidelity are found not to be the biological fathers of the children they have been raising.
Genetics scientist Kingdom Kwapata, who handles more than 30 paternity cases a month, says negative results consistently hover around 80 percent. Attestation Background Checks and DNA Limited Malawi, which operates clinics in Blantyre and Lilongwe, has reported a similar 80 percent non-paternity rate.
The trend is exposing deep seated marital deceit, triggering disputes over child custody, maintenance, inheritance, and parental responsibility. However, the 80 percent figure applies to men who seek testing, not to all men or fathers in Malawi.
