EPISODE 4

It was a new academic session in Emaco academy. Abike and Moremi were still on their scholarship and exhibiting excellence. They both were always used as an example to other students who were not serious with their studies or students who misbehaved in school.

A teacher was already inside the class and ready to start his lessons. The principal walked into the class with two beautiful new students.
The class greeted the principal who introduced the girls as their new classmates. Then he left the class.

Looking at the girls, one could tell from their skin tone that they were from rich homes. They looked so nice and the boys in the class started crushing on them instantly. The teacher asked the girls to make their way to an empty seat in the fourth row.

During classes, the girls were well comported and quiet. They answered questions which left some class members amazed. They had thought the girls would have been dull because of how pretty they looked.

It was break period and Moremi had disciplined herself to always stay back in class and study with Abike. Days when they don't feel like studying, they just sit back and talked about their future instead of going out to play.

Abike had gone to the staff room to submit some notes to one of the teachers. Moremi was sitting on her desk and just flipping through a new textbook she brought out from her bag. Her mother Bisola made sure she equipped her with all the necessary text books she needed. Her business was doing fine and investing on her daughter was her only priority.

"Hello" , one of the new girls said as they both walked to where Moremi was seated.

Moremi looked up and saw them staring at her with a smile.

"Can we join you on your reading table?" One of them asked.

"I'm not actually reading, I'm just flipping through the pages of this text book. And yes, you can have a seat" , Moremi said to the girls.

My name is Emily , I'm Ava.. the two girls said introducing themselves.

"Well, my name is Moremi and you both are welcome to Emaco academy", Moremi said with a smile. The girls kicked off their conversation with Moremi. At a point, they started laughing like they've been friends for a long time.

Abike was done with what she was doing in the staff room and she stared walking back to the class. She saw Moremi laughing and discussing with the two new girls. Abike was curious to know what they were discussing and why they seemed like they have been friends for a long time.

As she got closer to where the girls were, Emily and Ava stood up and left the seat. Abike asked Moremi why the girls left and Moremi said she didn't know why they suddenly stood up.

Abike asked Moremi if she knew the girls before and Moremi said no. Abike took offense the way the girls stood up and left when she wanted to join their discussion. But she kept it to herself.

After school dismissal, Moremi was standing inside the school compound waiting for Abike the class prefect to tidy up the class before leaving with her. The two girls walked to where Moremi was and asked her to join them on their ride so they could drop her off. Moremi declined saying she was going back home with Abike.

One of the girls squeezed something into Moremi's hand. Moremi opened her hand to see what was inside. It was a 1000 naira note.

Before she could decide whether she would deny or accept the money, the two girls were already walking away.

It seemed like the girls had seen Abike coming and left. Moremi wondered if Emily and Ava were friends or sisters because of the way they were always together.

Abike walked to where Moremi was standing, she asked Moremi why those new girls were talking with her again. Moremi told Abike the girls had suggested to give her a lift with the car that had come with pick them up but she declined. Moremi then showed Abike the money one of the girls had placed inside her hand.

Abike turned and looked at the girls who were already driving away. She turned her gaze back to Moremi and told her to stay away from those girls. Something looked suspicious and she could feel it.

" But Abike, don't you think this may be God trying to favor me through the hand of these daughters of rich parents? " Moremi asked rhetorically.

"Which favor? I don't trust those girls, they look suspicious to me" , Abike answered

" Wait...Don't tell me you're jealous of them", Moremi said to Abike in a teasing manner.

"Why will I be jealous? You know what?
Use your 1000 naira gift and take transport home. I'm out of here", Abike said and started walking home.

" Wait for me please"
" You're the only best friend I have" , Moremi said aloud and quickly followed Abike.

When Moremi got back home, she prepared something nice for herself and her mother with what was available in the kitchen. She had a lot to tell her mother about her new classmates.

That evening, Bisola came back. She was looking sick and her eyes were swollen. It felt like she had been crying the whole day.

The government had come again telling them that they were going to demolish the shops they had mapped out earlier. But they thought the issue will be resolved again as the last time. But that wasn't the case this time, the government came without warning and began to demolish all the shops with the goods inside.

" What is the matter mum? " , Moremi asked her mother.

Bisola looked at Moremi then hugged her tightly while tears ran down her cheeks all over again.

EPISODE 3

Moremi walked into the school looking around inside the very big compound. The school was really big and it's building looked like it was built newly. Every student who walked passed Moremi was dressed neatly. From just looking at them, one could certify that their parents were really rich.

Moremi didn't know her way around or where to go. She saw a girl who looked like she would be her senior in class.

" Excuse me, please can you show me the way to Jss1 class? Moremi asked in a calm voice.

" Sure, Climb up the staircase and take your left. The first class you see is Jss1" the girl said and continued with where she was going to.

" Thank you" Moremi tried saying but the girl was already far gone.

Moremi followed the direction she was given and arrived in front of a class. The sign on top boldly indicated Jss1.

There was a teacher already inside the class. Moremi had no watch to check her time but she knew she must have come late. Her house was quite far from the school.

Moremi greeted the teacher with a bit of fright. She welcomed Moremi and asked her to find herself a place to sit down.

A girl in the third row made a sign to Moremi to come sit beside her. As Moremi walked towards her, she noticed some of her classmates were pointing at her and laughing.

She didn't know why they were laughing. She just continued walking towards the seat and sat down.

When it was break period, Moremi brought out her food flask which her mother had loaded with food to eat.

Some boys and girls started laughing at her. Moremi surprised and wondering if she had a stain on her clothes tried finding out why they would be laughing at her.

" At your age, you're coming to school with a food flask. Can't your father give you money to buy from the canteen? Do you think this is primary six? One of the boys asked out aloud.

" My mother gave me this food and I'm happy to eat it" Moremi said trying to stand up for herself.

"Wait, wait... Why are you boys picking on her? She said she wants to eat her mother's food. Can't you see she can't afford the canteen? See her shoes", she said and they all started laughing out aloud.

Moremi lost appetite to eat. It was her first day and they were already bullying her in class. She wondered how the rest of the term was going to be like. They just reminded her that she had no father. She covered the food and could feel tears building up inside her eyes as she stared at them laughing at her.

Abike walked up to Moremi. She collected the food flask from her and then made her stand up from her seat.

She looked at all those making fun of Moremi with fury in her eyes. They knew she was ready to fight them so they all kept quiet. She held Moremi by her arms and went out of the class with her while holding the food flask.

Abike was the girl who had made a space for Moremi to seat down earlier that morning. Just like Moremi, Abike also came from a poor home. She looked a bit older than Moremi. She repeated class when she was in primary four. She picked up in primary five and performed greatly in primary six which made her qualify for the scholarship.

Abike went to a spot with Moremi out of their class. She told her not to let anyone make her feel less of herself. But she should keep working hard to make her parents proud.

" Children of the rich are always proud and arrogant. They don't know the sufferings our own parents go through. But we have to promise ourselves not to be poor as our parents" Abike said to Moremi.

Moremi thanked Abike. She asked her about her own food, but Abike had none. So Moremi shared her food with Abike.

When school was over, different types of cars came to pick up the students. While other students had personal bikes that came to take them home.

Luckily for Moremi, Abike takes the same route with her. Since they both had no money to pay for transport, they had to trekk home.

Abike and Moremi discussed how they were going to become successful in their career and make their parents proud.

After a long walk, it was time for Abike to take another route. She waved goodbye to Moremi and then continued her journey home.

When Moremi got home, she realized that her mother wasn't home. But she left the key at a usual spot. She opened the door and went in. She had a lot to tell her mother.

Bisola came back later in the evening. She was so happy.

The government decided to stop their demolition plans. So she wasn't going to loose her shop and she now has more hopes of seeing Moremi 's dreams through. She was going to use the opportunity that Moremi was enjoying scholarship to save a lot of money.

Moremi welcomed Bisola was a frown on her face. Bisola asked her why she was feeling sad about her first day at Emaco academy. Moremi told her mother about how kids from rich homes were picking on her.

Bisola told Moremi to ignore them and focus on her studies.

Moremi followed her mother's advice and decided to play deaf ears anytime her classmates mock her for anything. She wasn't there for competition but to graduate out with flying colours.

Moremi took her studies more serious. She teamed up with Abike and they both began to excel. They became the best students in their class. When ever there was any competition, Abike and Moremi would be called out.

Teachers began to love the two girls because they were close to excellence. Abike and Moremi excelled through their Jss1 and jss2. When they both got to Jss3, something happened.

NEW STORY ALERT

~~ MY DAUGHTER'S FRIENDS ~~

EPISODE 1

Sounds from car horns came sporadically from impatient drivers. The sun was hot and it's scorching effects could be seen on the faces of passengers who were sweating inside the buses and taxi. The traffic on the very busy road seemed like it wasn't going to come to an end. Hawkers took the opportunity to sell their goods. Especially those hawking cold drinks and water.

As thirsty passengers called to buy various items inside the traffic, Bisola sat inside the bus lost in thought. Her daughter Moremi had just graduated from primary school and will be entering into secondary school soon.

Moremi has always been a smart girl who keeps making Bisola proud. Moremi has said she was going to be a lawyer and Bisola had promised to help her achieve her dreams even with her limited means.

Though Moremi went to a public primary school, she never stopped amazing her mother. Moremi topped her class always. Moremi was so beautiful just like her father. But her finishing primary school left Bisola who's business was struggling in thoughts. Bisola knew enrolling Moremi into secondary school was going to take a lot from her.

Right there in the Bus inside the traffic, Bisola was thrown back to how it all started.

It happened many years ago. Bisola was still young, she wasn't opportuned to go to the university. She worked as a sales girl in a shop. That was where she met Olufemi. Olufemi fell in love with Bisola at first sight. They both began their love journey..

Fast-forward to the wedding day. Bisola came down from the car to enter into the church. Some people came to greet her and appreciate her beauty. She didn't know how but someone who she didn't see placed a little note into her hand.

It read,

" You're getting married to my fiancΓ©. Call off this wedding now or forever live in regrets. "

Bisola read the note and got worried. She asked for her husband's attention to be called. She showed the note to Olufemi. He assured her that nothing was going to happen. When Bisola insisted to know what was going on and why someone will threaten her. Olufemi lied and told Bisola that it was just someone who was forcing herself on him.

Bisola believed Olufemi and continued with the wedding.

Two days after the wedding, it was during their honeymoon. Olufemi left the house to go get something for both him and his wife. He stayed for a very long time and didn't come back. Bisola got worried, she picked up her phone and called Olufemi. A strange voice picked up the call. He told Bisola that her husband had been shot thirty minutes ago by unknown gun men. He died before they could get to the hospital. They had tried to reach a relative but olufemi's phone was locked.

Bisola's hand started shaking. She tried believing her ears were playing tricks on her. Her eyes opened wide.

" Hello "
" Hello... are you still there? " the voice asked from the phone.

" Where are you?"
"Where is my husband?" Bisola asked.

The stranger on the phone explained the location of the hospital to Bisola...

Bisola couldn't change, she wore her slippers and quickly left for the said hospital. On getting there, all she met was the body of her dead husband. Bisola cried and cried asking why the universe will be so cruel to her.

Bisola called her husband's siblings who came to see what had happened to their brother. His brothers blamed her for coming into Olufemi's life with ill luck.

Few days later, someone knocked in front of Bisola's door. When she opened the door. She didn't see anyone. She was about to go back inside, she looked and saw a note on the floor.

She picked it up and opened it slowly. It read.

" Olufemi took six years of my life and then came to get married to you after wasting my years. I believe he's going to rot in hell". He's going to pay Satan the debts he owed me".

Tears ran down the cheeks of Bisola. She didn't know if she was to blame her husband for what he did or herself for not calling off the wedding.

Bisola asked Olufemi's siblings to help her out since she had nothing doing. They all turned their backs on her. Bisola started looking for a job to sustain herself. Luckily she got one. After a month, Bisola discovered she was pregnant. When Olufemi's siblings found out that Bisola was pregnant, they got so happy. At least their brother would have a male child who will live on and continue his lineage.

They started rendering so much help to Bisola. They treated her like a queen and made sure she lacked nothing. When the pregnancy stage was at it's last, they stopped Bisola from working and provided everything she wanted.

When the date of delivery came, Bisola was taken to the hospital for delivery. After battling in the labour room for a few minutes, Bisola finally put to bed a baby girl.

When Olufemi's siblings learnt that it was a girl child. They frowned at it and began to leave the hospital one after the other.

Bisola realized that she was left all alone. She called them but none of them picked up their calls. When the doctor asked for payment, there was no one to pay. Bisola told the doctor her story with tears in her eyes. She told the doctor she had some money she had saved at home. The doctor told her not to worry he was going to pay up her bills.

Bisola was so thankful to the doctor who took care of her till the next day. She was discharged with her baby and allowed to go back home.

Bisola had no one to run to. Her mother was dead leaving behind her father who was battling with sickness. All she had at home was the little money she made when she worked. There was no one to help her out whether financially or with work at home. At night, Bisola will be awake with the crying baby and cry as Moremi cried.

It wasn't easy for her. Soon the one year rent her husband paid expired and it was time for her to pay another. Bisola didn't know who to go to for help. Luckily for her, the landlord was understanding and gave Bisola 6 months grace to look for a smaller apartment.

Bisola will carry little Moremi and be searching for greener pasture. After two years of suffering all alone. A man came the way of Bisola again. He was aware she had a daughter already. He promised Bisola he was going to take care of both her and her daughter. He told her of his plans to get married to her.

Three months of taking care of Bisola and Moremi, the man had his way with Bisola. When he was done having her as it pleased him, he showed Bisola the picture of himself and his family. He was a married man. Bisola was so heart broken for letting herself to be used.

Bisola promised herself to take care of her daughter alone and keep men away from her. Ever since then, she has single handedly raised Moremi. She has been deprived of so many opportunities just because she refused to open her legs.

"Madam you're crying?" Someone said inside the bus.

" What did you say? Bisola asked after being brought back from her world of thoughts.

" You are crying. You don't have to make this suffering obvious. We all are suffering in this country" the man said to Bisola.

" Abeg, make una come down this is the last stop". The conductor shouted.

Bisola wiped her tears and went down from the bus with her bag.
