A 14-year-old girl named Bashariya, who fled banditry violence in Zamfara state with her parents to an IDP camp in Gwiwa Eka, was allegedly subjected to horrific abuse. Fauziya, the wife of Sokoto Judge Barrister Abbakar Zaki, hired Bashariya as a maid and took her to Abuja, where she was reportedly starved, beaten, and tortured, including being bathed with fire. The abuse was captured on video, which surfaced after Bashariya received emergency care from neighbors. The girl's father claims Fauziya warned them not to report the abuse, boasting of her authority and influence, saying nothing would happen to her. Bashariya is now experiencing severe trauma. This case highlights the vulnerability of young girls in domestic servitude and the need for stringent measures to prevent such abuses.
