π¦John Terry: βWhen we were going to play against Barcelona, my son asked me for a signed Messi shirt, and I promised Iβd get it for him. From the start of the match, I wasnβt thinking about winning or losing or anything else, just about Messiβs shirt. I told my teammates not to ask for it.
When the game ended, I went over to him and asked for the shirt, and he didnβt hesitate to give it to me; he even asked for mine in return. What humility! But as I entered the tunnel, I remembered that my son had asked me for his autograph. I felt really disappointed and went to Barcelonaβs locker room, but they told me it was off-limits. I waited, and suddenly Messi appeared, walked toward me smiling, and said, βDo you want my boots too?β [Laughs] I smiled and told him, βI wonβt be able to go home tonight if you donβt sign this shirt for my son, I promised him.β
The funny thing is, I didnβt bring a pen. I went to find one, and when I came back, I found Leo still there waiting for me, even though his teammates had already left for the bus. He signed it, and I told him, βThank you, and sorry for keeping you late.β With respect, he said, βItβs okay. I donβt want your son to be disappointed, and also for you, because otherwise, youβd be sleeping outside tonight.β [Laughs]
Iβve played my entire career and have never seen a player as humble as Messi. The best in history, with extra humility. These are the kinds of things you only see in a player named Messi.β
