Amara and Sandra had been best friends for almost fifteen years.
They did everything together.
When Amara got married to Daniel, Sandra was her chief bridesmaid. When Amara had her first child, Sandra was the first person she called.
Amara trusted her completely.
Too completely.
Whenever Daniel came home late, Sandra was the one Amara complained to.
Whenever Amara and Daniel had an argument, Sandra was the one who listened.
“Don’t worry, my dear. Daniel loves you. Every marriage has problems,” she would always say.
What Amara didn’t know was that Sandra wasn’t listening because she cared.
She was collecting information.
She knew when Daniel was angry.
She knew when Amara was away.
She knew their financial problems.
She even knew the password to the house’s security system.
Then one weekend, Amara travelled with the children to visit her mother.
Sandra stayed behind.
Two days later, Amara received a message from an unknown number.
It contained a photograph.
Daniel was sitting in a restaurant.
And sitting opposite him was Sandra.
But that wasn’t the shocking part.
Sandra was holding Daniel’s hand.
Amara stared at the picture for several minutes, refusing to believe what she was seeing.
She called Daniel.
“Where are you?”
“At the office,” he replied casually.
Amara’s heart sank.
She called Sandra.
“I’m at home, dear. Why?”
Amara said nothing.
She simply ended the call.
That night, she returned home unexpectedly.
The house was strangely quiet.
She opened the bedroom door…
And saw something that made her entire body freeze.
Sandra was wearing Amara’s nightdress.
And Daniel was standing beside her.
For a few seconds, nobody spoke.
Then Sandra smiled.
Not a nervous smile.
Not an apologetic smile.
A victorious smile.
“Amara…” Daniel began.
But Amara raised her hand.
“Don’t.”
She looked at her best friend.
“How long?”
Sandra slowly folded her arms.
“Long enough.”
Amara felt something inside her break.
But instead of crying, she smiled.
Daniel looked confused.
“Why are you smiling?”
Amara picked up her handbag.
“Because both of you just made the biggest mistake of your lives.”
She walked out.
Neither Daniel nor Sandra knew that Amara had already discovered something about them that they had no idea she knew…
