C.S. Lewis once said: âYou canât go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.â
Today, as the world celebrates the craft of photography, I want to share my journey.
I thank God for how far He has brought me in my media career. Iâve always had a deep passion for this craft. I remember how I used to sneak my fatherâs camera as a kid, playing with it without his knowledge. The day I got caught, I nearly vanished from the face of the earth, because of his military-minded discipline.đ
My first formal training in photography and videography was in 2014, during my time in school, under the mentorship of Yomi Stylus. After the training, I received my certificate and shifted focus back to my Computer Science studies. Upon graduating in 2017, I attempted an advanced training, but my NYSC posting outside Lagos disrupted the plan. I stepped away from the craft again.
In 2020, I was contracted by Proudly Asaba Media Group, where I worked as a media manager and supervisor, until 2021 before relocating back to Lagos. I tried to train and work with a few media companies, but things didnât go as I had imagined.
Fast forward to May 2023, I met Divine. I shared my media journey with him, and he encouraged me not to give up. He shared his own story, and I finally began the advanced media training I had been avoiding all this while.
Today, weâre here. I want to thank him specially for giving me access to his more than 10 years of industry experience. I call him my friend, my brother, my boss, and my mentor. Thank you once again, sir, for helping me bridge the gap.
Now, I merge my Computer Science background and my passion for music with my media skills, to earn a living, mentor others, and train young creatives.
Happy World Photography Day to every photographer out there. And a special shoutout to everyone who has taught me one or two things in photography along the way. Your impact is part of my story, and I celebrate you today. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, your time, and your lens with me.
