Kaduna Govt Clears ₦408m Outstanding Foreign Tuition Fees for Stranded Students

Governor Uba Sani has settled $247,235.84 (about ₦408 million) in unpaid tuition fees owed by Kaduna State-sponsored students at foreign universities. The backlog, inherited from the previous administration, had left many students—mainly in Medicine and Nursing—unable to graduate, renew visas, or access academic records.

Payments went to institutions including the Medical University of Havana ($164,010), Debrecen University (UK/Hungary) ($51,400), University of Wollongong in Dubai ($13,827), and KIU/IUIU Uganda ($17,998). The state has also directed the Scholarship and Loans Board to verify and clear any remaining balances for current students.

APC Defends Betta Edu’s Inclusion in 2027 Campaign Council Amid Unresolved EFCC Probe

The APC has defended former Humanitarian Affairs Minister Betta Edu’s appointment as Director of Women Mobilisation in President Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, unveiled on 22 August 2026.

Edu was suspended in January 2024 over a memo directing the transfer of about ₦585 million meant for vulnerable groups into a private account. The EFCC investigated, recovered over ₦30 billion linked to the ministry, and examined dozens of accounts, but has not publicly released its final findings or charged her. She denies wrongdoing and has not been convicted.

APC Deputy National Chairman (South) described her as innocent and highlighted her grassroots networks as a campaign asset. Critics, including the ADC, called the council a “rehabilitation centre” for those with unresolved corruption questions and demanded clarity on the status of her case.

Ex-Minister Timipre Sylva, wanted over alleged coup plot, denies quitting APC

Former Bayelsa governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Timipre Sylva remains a wanted suspect in the federal government’s treason and related charges over an alleged 2025 plot to oust President Bola Tinubu. He is listed as still at large, denies any involvement, and says the claims are politically motivated.

His camp has also rejected recent rumours that he resigned from the APC or defected to the PDP, insisting he is still a loyal member of the ruling party.

Plateau Governor Declares Hisbah Activities Illegal

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to immediately halt the activities of a group operating as Hisbah in parts of Jos North Local Government Area, declaring them illegal, unauthorised and unacceptable.

The directive, announced on Sunday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, followed reports of intimidation, harassment, extortion and the imposition of unauthorised rules on residents.

Mutfwang warned those involved to desist or face arrest and prosecution under Nigerian law. He stressed that Plateau has one Constitution, one legal system and one legitimate authority, and that no individual or group may assume powers not granted by law.

Security agencies have been directed to identify, investigate, and, where evidence exists, prosecute those involved, as well as anyone promoting, sponsoring, or aiding the activities.

The governor clarified that the order is not targeted at any religion, ethnic group or community, and that all residents remain entitled to equal protection under the law.

INEC denies replacing NDC candidates in Anambra

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected claims by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) that it removed the party’s nominated candidates for the 2027 elections and substituted them with unauthorised names in some Anambra State House of Assembly constituencies.

INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, said the commission has no legal power to nominate candidates or replace those validly submitted by a political party. He emphasised that candidate nomination is the exclusive responsibility of parties under the Constitution and Electoral Act.

The NDC had alleged that about nine or ten “strange names” unknown to the party appeared on INEC’s published list for Anambra constituencies.

BBNaija star Tacha (Natacha Akide) is reportedly under arrest by the Nigeria Police Force.

Movie producer Seun Oloketuyi claimed on Instagram that she was picked up early Sunday morning (30 August 2026) at her Ajah, Lagos residence after ignoring three invitations from the NPF National Cybercrime Centre (NCCC) between May and August.

The invitations are linked to a March 2026 X (Twitter) post in which she accused a man of r**e; reports say the allegation cost him brand deals and a job abroad, and police are said to have asked her to produce victims.

As of Monday morning, her manager told P.M. News he could not confirm the arrest and had been unable to reach her. Official police confirmation and full details remain pending.

Abducted corps members: Kidnappers demand N20m ransom each

Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have demanded N20m ransom each.

Report has it that the 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise were abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

A family member of one of the victims told Daily Trust that the abductors had contacted them to make known their ransom demand.

“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting N20 million naira,” the family source said.

The development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of some passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.

The command had said 11 abducted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, were rescued following a joint operation by security personnel, while efforts were ongoing to locate and rescue those still in captivity.

Families of some of the victims have since appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of those still being.

NDC Accuses INEC of Publishing Unauthorised Candidates in Anambra for 2027 Polls

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of replacing its nominated candidates with unauthorised names in several Anambra State House of Assembly constituencies for the 2027 elections.

National Chairman Sen. Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe said about nine to ten names unknown to the party appeared on INEC’s published list, mainly in Anambra—the home state of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi. He stated the party neither authorised nor uploaded those names and vowed legal action.
