I was thinking about parenting recently, and I realised how different it is from when some of us were growing up.
Our parents had their own way of doing things, and now that Gen Z is becoming parents, I feel like we’re learning a whole new approach to raising children.
One thing I think is important is finding a balance.
We want our children to feel heard, loved and comfortable enough to talk to us about anything. But at the same time, they still need guidance, boundaries and an understanding that not everything can always go their way.
I also feel like social media is something parents may need to be a little mindful of. Children are growing up in a world where almost everything is online, so protecting their privacy and allowing them to enjoy being children is really important.
And sometimes, because we want to give our children everything we didn’t have growing up, we might forget that some experiences also teach valuable lessons.
For me, good parenting isn’t about being perfect. It’s about learning, listening, correcting when necessary and creating a home where a child knows they are loved.
I’m not a parent yet, but watching life and reflecting on my own little experiences has taught me that raising a child is probably one of those things you keep learning every single day.
To all the Gen Z parents out there, you’re learning too. 🤍
What is one thing you think parents today should be more mindful of?
