Army Chief orders probe of video showing troops complaining over poor meals

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has ordered an investigation into the viral video of soldiers expressing frustration over poor feeding by operational commanders.

In the viral video, some soldiers could be seen displaying food items allegedly sent to them by their higher command, suggesting dissatisfaction with the quality and quantity of the foodstuffs.

Reacting to the video, the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele in a statement released said it is being treated with the highest level of seriousness. Anele assured both personnel and the general public that while the authenticity and context of the video were yet to be fully ascertained, the matter was being treated with the seriousness it deserved.

“Consequently, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered a thorough and detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In line with his commitment to transparency and accountability, the outcome of the investigation will be made public upon conclusion,” the statement read

According to the Acting Director, the COAS reiterated that troops’ welfare remains his topmost priority, in line with his Command philosophy.

The statement encouraged personnel to utilise established and appropriate military channels to present their concerns or complaints, especially on welfare services.

“The use of unauthorised platforms to express grievances, particularly on operational matters, is highly discouraged and considered a breach of military ethics and discipline,” the statement warned.

He, therefore, reassured all personnel of Nigerian Army and the public that he will continue to uphold the highest standards of leadership accountability, troops welfare and institutional integrity in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate.

“The wellbeing and effectiveness of the Nigerian soldier remain central to our ongoing transformation efforts and operational success,” the COAS assured.

Woman convicted of culpable homicide after her pitbull mauled neighbour's 8-year-old son to d3ath

The Bloemfontein Regional Court in South Africa has convicted a woman, Keabetswe Moroane (43) of culpable homicide following the tragic d3ath of her neighbour’s 8-year-old son, who was mauled by her pitbull on 12 November 2022.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in a statement on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 said Morane will be sentenced in September.

Moroane owned three dogs, one of which was a Pitbull known for its aggressive behaviour and which had reportedly terrorised residents in the area on several previous occasions.

Despite repeated complaints and efforts by both Moroane and her neighbours to restrain the dog such as installing fences and wooden poles she failed to maintain adequate structures to ensure the animal was securely contained.

On the day of the incident, due to her failure to maintain those safety measures, the Pitbull broke free from her yard, entered a neighbouring property, and viciously attacked the young boy while he was playing in the garage. The child d!ed at the scene from severe injuries sustained during the mauling.

The court found that Moroane had acted negligently by not taking reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable harm. Given the known history of aggression by the dog and the prior complaints from community members, the court ruled that she had a duty of care to protect others from the potential danger posed by the animal.

Her failure to act decisively and responsibly directly resulted in the loss of a young life.

The court convicted her of culpable homicide, and the matter has been postponed to 02 September 2025 for sentencing. A pre-sentencing report has been requested by the defence.

“The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the conviction and commends the efforts of the investigating and prosecution teams,” the statement reads.

“The NPA also extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, who have suffered an unimaginable loss. This case serves as a somber reminder that owners of dangerous animals have a legal and moral responsibility to ensure the safety of those around them. When negligence results in injury or death, the justice system must act decisively to protect the public and hold the responsible parties accountable."

Moment Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, made a gaffe while speaking about former President Buhari’s funeral

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, is currently trending on social media after he made a gaffe while speaking about former President Buhari’s funeral.

This happened during plenary today July 23. The red chamber organized a special session to celebrate the life and times of the former Nigerian leader who died in a UK hospital on Sunday, July 13.

While speaking during the session, Akpabio mistakenly mentioned ‘’Tinubu's burial' instead of saying ‘’Buhari's burial'.

In his words;

‘’The whole country is very proud of what this administration has done in the way and manner President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was honored and was buried''
He was immediately alerted and he corrected himself.

‘’President Buhari rather….sorry''

Pilot explains what really happens if you don’t put your phone on airplane mode while flying

A commercial pilot has taken to TikTok to clear up a common misconception about one of flying’s most overlooked safety rules: switching your phone to airplane mode.

In a video posted by TikTok user , the pilot issued a “friendly PSA” to explain why this seemingly minor step is not a “conspiracy theory” — but an important precaution that supports flight safety.

“Putting your phone on airplane mode won’t stop the plane from flying,” he began, “but it does help prevent annoying interference in the cockpit.”

The pilot clarified that a plane won’t fall out of the sky just because a few passengers forget to flip the switch. However, he explained that if several devices attempt to connect to cell towers during the flight — especially when receiving calls or messages — the resulting radio waves can interfere with the headsets worn by pilots.

“I once heard this loud buzzing in my headset — like a mosquito or wasp flying around my ear — while trying to land the plane,” he said. “It made it hard to hear critical instructions from air traffic control.”

Though it may sound harmless, such interference can be distracting — especially during high-focus moments like take-off or landing, when communication is most crucial. Pilots often operate with limited visibility and rely heavily on clear audio transmissions from the ground.

Travel and Leisure notes that most aviation accidents occur during these critical phases of flight, making uninterrupted communication vital to ensure safety.

So while not flipping on airplane mode won’t cause a crash, it can create avoidable disturbances for the crew — and could potentially impact the flow of communication in the cockpit.

In short: airplane mode isn’t just a suggestion. It’s a simple act of courtesy that helps everyone on board, including the people flying the plane, stay focused and safe.

Drama as young woman suspected to be 'drugged' rolls in muddy water in Ogbomoso

There was drama in Ogbomoso, Oyo State when a young woman suspected to be drugged rolled in a pool of muddy water, with her legs raised.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 23, 2025 on Okelerin junction.

The incident drew a large crowd, with some people claiming she was a victim of ritualists and her private part had been cut off.

However, a woman inspected her and found her private part intact.

According to an eyewitness, the young woman was walking towards the junction when she suddenly dived into the puddle.

"She was walking up from GB axis and then as she reached the junction she dived into a crater with water at the edge of the road, started swaying and gulping the muddy water ravenously,” an eyewitness told Ogbomoso Insight.

“People rushed to assist her but she lay in the little amount of water collected in the crater, swaying uncontrollably, and put her mouth down there hastily gulping down the water.”

The eyewitness, a shop owner across the road, informed further that they first thought she was a devotee of the Osun river goddess from the way she was twirling and guzzling the water.

"That was our initial thought that she was an Osun worshipper, in fact Osun priestesses later came to the scene but they saw she was not of their sect and so they left. The whole drama took about three hours before curtain so to say was drawn on it. More people continued to troop in to see the spectacle.”

"Eventually she regained her senses and she was helped to stand. The first thing she asked was, “What am l doing here? What is happening?”

The eyewitness added that her relatives later arrived the scene and guided her home.

Liverpool confirm £79m signing of striker Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt as Reds' summer spending passes £290MILLION

Premier League champions, Liverpool, have signed Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike in a deal worth £79m (€91m).

Liverpool will pay an initial fee of £69m (€80m) plus £10m (€12.5m) in add-ons for the striker as their summer spending edges towards £300m.

The French striker is expected to join up with the squad in Hong Kong in the next 48 hours for training sessions ahead of Saturday's fixture against AC Milan.

A club statement read: "Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, subject to international clearance.

"The 23-year-old has successfully completed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Reds, allowing him to fly out to Hong Kong to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week."

The deal for Ekitiké, which is subject to international clearance, takes Liverpool’s summer spending to almost £300m. The former Paris Saint-Germain player is the club’s seventh signing of the window, following Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and a trio of goalkeepers: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi, and Freddie Woodman.

Ekitiké scored 22 goals and made 12 assists in his one full season at Frankfurt, helping the club to qualify for the Champions League, and while he is primarily a No 9 Liverpool believe he can also operate as a second striker or out wide.

French President Emmanuel Macron sues Candace Owens over her claims that his wife Brigitte could be a man

French President, Emmanuel Macron, has sued right-wing media personality Candace Owens for defamation after Owens claimed in several videos that Macron's wife Brigitte, could be a man.

The suit charges Owens with 22 counts of defamation as part of "a campaign of global humiliation" intended to generate profit for Owens and her companies.

According to the complaint, Owens published a video in March of 2025 titled "Is France’s First Lady a Man?" Several other videos followed, including a multi-part series.

The suit alleges that Owens has also sold merchandise related to the claim.

The complaint against Owens states that she "was repeatedly presented with credible, verifiable evidence disproving her claims—including documentation, public records, and direct outreach from the Macrons."

In the suit, the Macrons say they have suffered economic damage and loss of business opportunities. They are suing Owens for punitive damages.

Owens said in early 2024 that she would “stake [her] entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron is in fact a man.” Since then, she has doubled down on these claims and added more, including in an eight-part podcast series called Becoming Brigitte, the lawsuit alleges.

The Macrons sought retractions from Owens, the suit says, for the “demonstrably false” claims she has made about them but she instead “mocked them and used them as additional fodder for her frenzied fan base”.

“These outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions included that Mrs Macron was born a man, stole another person’s identity, and transitioned to become Brigitte; Mrs Macron and President Macron are blood relatives committing in**st; President Macron was chosen to be the President of France as part of the CIA-operated MKUltra program or a similar mind-control program; and Mrs Macron and President Macron are committing forgery, fraud, and abuses of power to conceal these secrets.

“Because Ms Owens systematically reaffirmed these falsehoods in response to each of our attorneys’ repeated requests for a retraction, we ultimately concluded that referring the matter to a court of law was the only remaining avenue,” the Macrons said in a statement. “Ms Owens’ campaign of defamation was plainly designed to harass and cause pain to us and our families and to garner attention and notoriety. We gave her every opportunity to back away from these claims, but she refused. It is our earnest hope that this lawsuit will set the record straight and end this campaign of defamation once and for all.”

“The falsehoods have taken a toll on the Macrons, who are now subjected to acampaign of global humiliation, turning their lives into fodder for profit-driven lies” and “relentless bullying on a worldwide scale”. Beyond the reputational damage, they have spent considerable sums of money to correct the public record including on legal counsel.”

“Every time the Macrons leave their home, they do so knowing that countless people have heard, and many believe, these vile fabrications. It is invasive, dehumanizing, and deeply unjust,” the suit says.

According to the Financial Times, the Macrons are willing to appear in court in Delaware for a trial. They are represented by Clare Locke, a heavyweight law firm that has won major defamation cases, including the Dominion lawsuit against Fox News.

‘’The only southern candidate that can defeat Tinubu is GEJ and he will not run against Tinubu. All others are content creators who are entertaining their supporters and Nigerians. This post will sense to you until after 2027 election. Tinubu is not Buhari or GEJ.''

Singer Sean Kingston's mother sentenced to 5 years in prison in $1 million fraud case

Janice Turner, the mother of singer Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to five years in prison after she and her son were convicted in a $1 million fraud case.

Back in March, a jury found Janice Turner, 63, and Sean Kingston, 35, guilty of five wire fraud-related offenses, court records show. They were indicted in July 2024, weeks after authorities raided Kingston’s rented seven-bedroom, 7,966 sq ft. home in Southwest Ranches

Kingston and Turner, according to the indictment, orchestrated a lucrative wire fraud scheme from April 2023 to March 2024. They falsely represented that they made legitimate wire transfers for vehicles, jewelry, and other goods.

But the businesses never received payment.

Among their alleged fraudulent transactions included: $480,000 for two watches, $285,000 for another watch, and $159,702.78 for a car, totaling more than $1 million in goods.

Turner was facing up to two decades in federal prison. Her attorneys urged U.S. District Court Judge David S. Leibowitz sentence Turner to two-and-a-half years because of her charity work, “myriad of health issues, and minimal criminal history.”

At the sentencing, Leibowitz reportedly described Turner as the “nerve center” of the fraud scheme, according to Local 10.

In a document filed days before the sentencing, Turner’s attorneys acknowledged that she will be deported to Jamaica due to her conviction.

In 2006, Turner pleaded guilty to bank fraud and served more than a year in federal prison.

“Ms. Turner will go to prison; she has earned the prison sentence,” the filing said. “However, a sentence greater than thirty months is a waste of taxpayer resources based upon the history and characteristics of Ms. Turner.”

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, will be sentenced on Aug. 28

Kingston, a South Florida native, is best known for hit songs “Beautiful Girls,” “Fire Burning” and “Eenie Meenie,” with Justin Bieber. During the late 2000s, he became a best-selling reggae artist, with several Billboard Top 10 singles.
