KIDNAPPED OYO STUDENTS, TEACHERS RESCUED AFTER JOINT SECURITY OPERATION.

Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of Statel Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, other security agencies, and local vigilantes, have successfully rescued the 44 pupils and teachers abducted from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on 15 May 2026.

The month-long, intelligence-led operation targeted the terrorist network responsible for the abduction, resulting in multiple arrests in Oyo State and other parts of the country.

Sustained pressure on the kidnappers ultimately forced them to release all the victims unconditionally.

The rescued pupils and teachers are receiving medical attention at an undisclosed location and will be reunited with their families through the Oyo State Government.

While the operation was carefully executed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and minimize collateral damage, some security personnel made the ultimate sacrifice.

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, commended the courage and professionalism of all participating security agencies and expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Security Adviser, Service Chiefs, the Inspector-General of Police, heads of security agencies, the media and Nigerians for their unwavering support.

Security agencies have assured the public that follow-up operations are ongoing to apprehend all those involved and further strengthen security across the country.

🚨Breaking News: Police Deployed to Ibadan's Ojoo Area After F÷tal St÷bbing Tr!ggers Ethn!c T£nsions

Heavy security has been deployed to the Ojoo area of Ibadan, Oyo State, following the alleged stĂ·bbing dÂŁĂ·th of a Yoruba tricycle mechanic, an inc*dent that sparked viol3nt clĂ·shes, property destruction, and heightened ethnic tÂŁnsions in the community.

According to reports, the inc*dent occurred overnight on Tuesday, July 7, during an altÂŁrcation involving the vict!m and a svspected Hausa scrĂ·p collector.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the Yoruba mechanic was fatĂ·lly stĂ·bbed during the confrontation. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the inc*dent remain under investigation, with confl!cting accounts emerging over what l3d to the attĂ·ck.

Some reports claim the dispvte may have been linked to allegations of thÂŁft or a fa!led Point of Sale (POS) transaction, while others describe the inc*dent as an unprov0ked attĂ·ck.

Authorities have not confirmed these claims.
The ki||ing reportedly tr!ggered prot3sts on Wednesday, as groups of youths clĂ·shed with members of the Hausa community.

The unr3st led to the destrvction of properties, shops being set abl÷ze, road bl0ckages along the Ojoo–Iwo Road Expressway, and reports of at l£ast one add!tional fat÷lity.

In response, the Oyo State Police Command, supported by Operation Bvrst operatives, military personnel, and ant!-cult!sm units, deployed heavily to the area to restore order. Security operatives reportedly used tÂŁar gas and other crowd-control measures to d!sperse viol3nt prot3sters and prevent further esca[ation.

Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. The Oyo State Government has also reportedly commenced an investigation into the inc*dent to establish the facts and bring those responsible to just!ce.

The viol3nce has disrvpted commercial activities in parts of Ojoo, with many residents reportedly fleeing the area over safÂŁty concerns.

Security agencies have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and have appealed for cooperation from residents, emphasizing that anyone found culpable will be prosecvted in accordance with the law.
