📖 THE PRICE OF A DREAM
EPISODE 15
THE PLACE WHERE THE DREAM BEGAN
The old workshop had been abandoned for almost twenty years.
But to Daniel, it wasn't just an old building.
It was the place where everything had started.
The place where his father taught him how to repair machines.
The place where Daniel once told his father:
"One day, I will become a successful man."
His father had smiled and replied:
"Then never let poverty convince you that your dream is too expensive."
Now Daniel was returning to that same place...
Not as a child chasing a dream.
But as a man chasing the truth.
11:43 P.M. — THE OLD WORKSHOP
Daniel and Samuel stood outside the rusty gate.
The building looked almost exactly as Daniel remembered it.
Broken windows.
Faded walls.
An old sign hanging from one chain.
Daniel slowly pushed the gate open.
CREAAAK...
Samuel looked around.
"Are you sure this is where your father kept the ledger?"
Daniel nodded.
"That's what the note said."
They entered.
Moonlight passed through the broken roof.
Daniel walked toward the back of the workshop.
He stopped beside an old workbench.
His father's tools were still there.
Covered in dust.
Daniel picked up an old screwdriver.
His eyes became wet.
"He used to stand right here."
Samuel said nothing.
Daniel looked beneath the workbench.
Nothing.
He checked the drawers.
Nothing.
Then he noticed something strange.
One of the floor tiles was newer than the others.
"Samuel..."
They removed the tile.
Beneath it was a small metal box.
Daniel's heart began racing.
He inserted the rusty key.
CLICK.
The box opened.
Inside was an old leather-bound ledger.
Daniel slowly picked it up.
THE LEDGER.
They had finally found it.
Samuel stared at the book.
"Daniel..."
"What?"
"Don't open it here."
Daniel frowned.
"Why?"
Samuel pointed toward the entrance.
A shadow had just moved across the doorway.
Someone was watching them.
Daniel immediately turned.
"Who's there?"
No answer.
Samuel grabbed his arm.
"Let's go."
They ran toward the back exit.
But before they reached it...
The workshop doors slammed shut.
BANG!
Daniel stopped.
A voice echoed through the darkness.
"You really thought your father could hide this forever?"
The lights suddenly came on.
Daniel's face went pale.
Victor stood in the middle of the workshop.
The man in the blue suit.
Surrounding him were several men.
Victor smiled.
"Give me the ledger."
Daniel held it tightly.
"No."
Victor sighed.
"I was hoping you wouldn't make this difficult."
Samuel stepped in front of Daniel.
"Let him go."
Victor looked at Samuel.
"You've caused enough trouble."
Then Victor said something Daniel didn't expect.
"Ask Samuel where he got the money that paid for your father's funeral."
Daniel slowly turned toward Samuel.
"What?"
Samuel's face changed.
Victor smiled.
"Go ahead, Samuel."
"Tell him."
Daniel looked at Samuel.
"Where did you get the money?"
Samuel remained silent.
"Samuel!"
Finally, Samuel whispered:
"From Victor."
Daniel stepped backward.
"What?"
"I had no choice."
Victor laughed.
"You see?"
"He was never your enemy."
"He was simply another person I owned."
Daniel's anger rose.
"You've been manipulating everyone!"
Victor's expression suddenly became cold.
"No."
"I'm correcting a mistake your father made twenty years ago."
He stepped closer.
"Your father stole something much more valuable than money."
Daniel looked down at the ledger.
"What?"
Victor smiled.
"A list."
"A list of names."
"Politicians."
"Businessmen."
"Police officers."
"People who built their fortunes by destroying ordinary people."
Daniel opened the ledger.
Page after page contained names, dates and amounts of money.
Then he reached the final page.
His blood ran cold.
There was one name written in red ink.
VICTOR ADEBAYO.
Underneath it was another name.
Daniel's mother's.
Then another.
SAMUEL.
Daniel slowly looked up.
"Why is Samuel's name here?"
Nobody answered.
Suddenly, the workshop lights went off.
A loud crash came from the roof.
Everyone looked up.
A figure dropped from the ceiling.
Michael.
He landed behind Victor.
Victor turned.
"What are you doing here?"
Michael smiled.
"Ending what you started."
He threw something toward Daniel.
Daniel caught it.
A small flash drive.
Michael shouted:
"The ledger is a distraction!"
Daniel stared at him.
"The real evidence is inside that drive."
Victor's face changed for the first time.
"STOP HIM!"
The men rushed toward Daniel.
Samuel grabbed Daniel's hand.
"RUN!"
They raced through the back door.
Behind them, Victor screamed:
"YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S ON THAT DRIVE!"
Daniel stopped for half a second.
Then he looked at Samuel.
"That's exactly why we're going to find out."
They disappeared into the darkness.
Meanwhile, Michael remained inside the burning workshop.
Victor approached him slowly.
"You should have stayed dead."
Michael smiled.
"You should have finished the job twenty years ago."
Then Michael whispered:
"Because now Daniel knows the truth."
Victor's expression hardened.
"What truth?"
Michael looked toward the door Daniel had escaped through.
"That you weren't the only person who betrayed his father."
