Jamit raises $500K in pre-seed funding 🚀💰

📍 Nigerian AI podcast and social audio platform Jamit has secured $500K in pre-seed funding to build the infrastructure for creator-owned storytelling across Africa and beyond 🌍

Jamit lets creators publish, monetise, and truly own their content — using AI to lower production costs and blockchain to replace the broken economics that have kept global voices underpaid for decades.

💡 The round saw participation from LAVA, CV VC, Microtraction, LiskDAO, and The Batchery — with angels from Roku, Replit, KPMG, and more.

Terra Industries has raised $22 million in an extension round led by Lux Capital, bringing total funding to $34 million.

The Abuja-based defense technology company builds autonomous security systems that protect Africa's critical infrastructure across land, air, and maritime environments.

Founded in 2024 by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra Industries designs and manufactures drones, sentry towers, and unmanned ground vehicles connected through ArtemisOS, their proprietary software platform for real-time threat detection and coordinated response.

The company already secures infrastructure assets valued at approximately $11 billion, with deployments protecting power plants, mines, and other critical assets across multiple African countries.

The new capital will fund expanded manufacturing capacity, accelerate deployments across Nigeria and allied African countries, and grow engineering, software, and business development teams across Africa, London, and San Francisco.

Investors in the round include 8VC, Nova Global, Silent Ventures, Belief Capital, Tofino Capital, Resilience17 Capital, and angel investors Jordan Nel and Jared Leto.

🇳🇬 Nigeria (5 deals, $38.75M+)
MAX raised $24M after profitability, Terra Industries secured $11.75M as Africa's first defence tech startup, OneDosh closed $3M pre-seed, Tuteria raised $2.6M, and Cardtonic secured $2.1M seed funding.

🇲🇦 Morocco (2 deals, $15.75M)
Yakeey raised $15M in Morocco's largest Series A, and ReparTrust secured $750K pre-seed.

🇰🇪 Kenya (3 deals, $22.3M+)
Cold Solutions Kiambu raised $19M debt financing, Sanivation secured $3.3M equity investment, and Mamy Eyewear received strategic investment from Japan's IVS.

🇬🇭 Ghana (1 deal, $150K)
WellsForAll raised $150K in community funding for blockchain-enabled water solutions.

Nigeria's Terra Industries just raised $11.75M in seed funding to expand defense technology manufacturing across Africa.

The Abuja-based startup builds autonomous drones, unmanned ground vehicles, and surveillance systems that protect critical infrastructure. Their technology currently secures assets worth approximately $11 billion across Africa, including power plants, mines, and industrial facilities in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya.

The round was led by 8VC (founded by Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale), with participation from Valor Equity Partners, Lux Capital, SV Angel, Leblon Capital, Silent Ventures, Nova Global, Tofino Capital, Kaleo Ventures, DFS Lab, and angel investors including Micky Malka.

Founded in 2024 by Nathan Nwachuku and Maxwell Maduka, Terra will use the funding to expand manufacturing capacity, build new factories, and grow engineering and software teams.

Flutterwave INC. has acquired Mono, an open banking infrastructure company based in Lagos.

Mono’s platform supports financial data access, identity checks, and account-to-account payments for businesses across Africa.

The companies have not disclosed financial terms, however, TechCrunch reports it is an all-stock deal and cites a $25m–$40m valuation range from people familiar with the transaction.

What to watch: Mono continues independent operations while gaining access to Flutterwave's 34-country licensing infrastructure. The combined stack now spans payments, data access, and identity verification.

African startups raised over $174 million in the final weeks of December 💰

We've just published Funding Watchlist Issue #6, covering 14 funding rounds announced between 7th and 31st December across Nigeria, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria, Rwanda, and pan-African operations.

Here are the highlights:
🚗 LagRide (Nigeria) secured a $100 million credit facility from United Bank for Africa to acquire 3,500 CNG vehicles and expand its driver-to-owner programme in Lagos.

☀️ Sun King (Kenya) raised $40 million from Lightrock to scale off-grid solar distribution across 11 African countries, targeting one million kit installations monthly by 2030.

🔬 Nawah Scientific (Egypt) closed a $23 million Series A round to build a global R&D centre in Rwanda and expand laboratory services in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

✈️ VOLZ (Algeria) made history with a $5 million Series A—the largest startup funding round ever raised in Algerian dinars. The deal marked the first exit for Algeria's state-backed startup fund with a 3.35x return.

💳 Ezeebit (South Africa) raised $2.05 million in seed funding for its crypto payments platform that's already processed 30,000+ transactions.

💰 Kayko (Rwanda) secured $1.2 million in seed funding for its micro-ERP platform serving 8,500+ small businesses.

📚 Bildup AI (Nigeria) closed a $400,000 oversubscribed angel round to launch AI Learning Centres across Nigeria.

Plus seven more deals across fintech, AI, healthtech, and mobility.

Nigeria and Egypt led deal count with three rounds each. Mobility and cleantech dominated capital deployment. Three healthtech startups secured strategic investments from Boehringer Ingelheim's pharmaceutical fund.

ClapMi just secured $20,000 to transform how African creators earn online 🚀💰

📍 Lagos-based creator-tech startup ClapMi has received a $20,000 innovation grant through the Aya x Lisk Incubation Program to launch Africa's first hybrid Web2/Web3 competitive livestreaming platform.

The opportunity
While Africa's creator economy is projected to exceed $29.8 billion by 2032, more than half of African creators currently earn less than $60 per month despite producing content that generates strong engagement.

How ClapMi is different
Instead of relying on unpredictable ad revenue, creators compete head-to-head in gaming, football, singing, comedy, dance, and art. Audiences vote with "Claps" (tips tracked on blockchain), and earnings are determined by performance outcomes. The platform bridges Web2 accessibility with Web3 transparency, handling payments across Solana, Lisk's Layer-2, and BEP-20 networks for borderless payouts.

Traction since August 2025:
150+ competitive livestreams hosted
6,000+ active users across Africa
Over $1,000 paid directly to creators

What the funding will support:
The $20,000 grant will accelerate mobile app development, improve blockchain payment systems, upgrade the competitive livestream engine, and expand beyond gaming into entertainment verticals.

ClapMi was selected as one of eight African startups from 300+ initial applications to the Aya x Lisk Incubation Program. The programme offers up to $100,000 in total funding for scaling.

💡 The grant comes from Lisk Foundation through the Aya x Lisk Incubation Program, a partnership between AyaHQ (Africa's largest early-stage Web3 incubator) and Lisk (Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain).

Founded by Justice Eneje (CEO) and Victor Eneanya, ClapMi is building infrastructure for Africa's next generation of digital entertainment.
