THE NIGHTMARE

EPISODE 3

A stitch in time saves nine, but unfortunately, things had already taken a deadly turn for Tony. You see why it pays to be faithful to your partner, whether married or not? If Tony had honoured his marriage vows and stayed faithful to his wife—whom he had been starving of intimacy and family time—he would have escaped the deadly bullet shot towards him.

If only he knew that Jasmine, the woman he had just finished sleeping with, was HIV positive, I guess he would have dropped dead immediately or, even worse, gone crazy.

The guilt Tony felt for cheating on his wife was nothing compared to what was ahead of him. The deed had already been done, so it was time to dance to the music he played.

While Tony lay in bed thinking of his poor wife at home—probably missing him—his guilt grew worse. After struggling with his conscience for a while, he finally closed his eyes and went to bed. While asleep, he had a dream where he was surrounded by doctors and nurses. In that dream, it seemed as though they were using him for an experiment. His body was weak and deteriorating as he lay helplessly on the hospital bed.

“No, no!!” Tony screamed as he jumped up from the bed with one hand on his chest.

“Are you OK? You scared me,” Jasmine asked as she slowly sat up.

At that moment, Tony was still trying to regain his composure and reminded himself that it was just a dream. He couldn’t explain the reason for his panic to Jasmine.

“I’m alright, go back to sleep,” he said gently and lay back on the bed. But all through the night, he couldn’t sleep and kept thinking of that scary dream.

The next morning, Jasmine prepared to leave the hotel, as she usually did whenever she slept over at a man’s place. The main reason she always rushed home was to take her daily dose of drugs. To avoid exposing her secret, she never carried them around with her.

Before leaving, Tony gave her plenty of money for transportation and upkeep. She kissed him passionately on the lips before leaving. With Jasmine gone, Tony quickly prepared to head back home to his wife since he had finished the business engagement that took him away from the city.

Around 1 p.m., the doorbell rang at his house and the maid hurriedly opened it.

“Welcome, sir,” she greeted, taking his briefcase.

“Thank you! Where’s my wife?” Tony asked.

“She went out this morning and hasn’t returned yet,” the maid replied.

Tony brought out his phone and dialled Becca’s number. She picked up after a few rings.

“Hey baby, where are you? I’m back home,” he said.

“I had an important meeting at the office and also a doctor’s appointment,” Becca replied.

He told her to come back as soon as she could. After the call, he went upstairs to freshen up, then came down to eat.

While waiting for his wife, Tony’s guilty conscience was still heavy, but he tried to push it aside. Just when he was about to rest, his phone rang—and it was Jasmine. Immediately he saw her name on the screen, his heart skipped.

“Hello, how are you?” Tony asked.

“I’m fine, I just miss you,” Jasmine said.

He sighed deeply before replying, “You shouldn’t call me unless I call you. I’m at home now, I’ll call you later.” He quickly ended the call.

Jasmine felt sad and disappointed, but she didn’t complain. She already knew she was just a chapter in Tony’s life and not the whole book. Besides, she had her own skeletons in the cupboard.

Not long after, the doorbell rang again—it was Becca. As she stepped inside, Tony gave her a warm hug, probably out of guilt.

“Look who’s back! I thought you were supposed to be gone all week,” Becca said as Tony wrapped his arms around her.

“I was supposed to be away all week, but I was fortunate to finish early. So here I am,” he smiled.

Their reunion was filled with mixed emotions, as they couldn’t get their hands off each other. Becca later freshened up and got ready for bed. That night, Tony tried to touch her, but she wasn’t in the mood. He tried again and again, but she refused.

“Babe, not today. I had a long day, and besides, I’m not happy with you or this marriage. It will take more than touching and kissing to get me in the mood, because my mind isn’t there,” Becca finally said.

Tony was confused. “What have I done wrong? Is there any problem with our marriage?” he asked.

Becca turned towards him and poured out her heart.

“What makes you think we are fine as a couple? Do we look happy? How can we be fine when you neglect me and give all your time to work? I barely see you, and I can’t even remember the last time we spent quality time together. It’s been two years and we still don’t have a child. How can I get pregnant when you’re never around during my ovulation? How can we make babies when I sleep alone most nights? Honestly, I don’t think I trust you anymore. You’re not the man I said ‘I do’ to. Please just leave me alone, I want to sleep,” she said angrily and turned away.

Tony was dumbfounded and speechless. He didn’t even know their marriage had problems until that moment. Sadly, he had to find out that way.

On second thought, maybe it was God’s way of protecting Becca from contracting HIV from her husband, who was at high risk after sleeping with Jasmine unprotected.

Still, there was a 50/50 chance that Tony was HIV free. Since Jasmine was taking her antiretroviral drugs, her viral load could be low, which might prevent transmission. At this point, it was uncertain whether Tony had contracted it or not. We will find out as we continue reading.

The next day, after an emotionally draining night, Tony wanted to make things right with his wife. But how could he, when his job was the main root of their problems? Before he could talk to her, his boss called him for an urgent three-day assignment.

It broke Becca’s heart that her husband chose work again over their marriage, but she had already grown used to it. Tony was sent back to the same place he had just returned from. He lodged in the same hotel and moved from one business meeting to another.

After a stressful day, Tony retired to his hotel room. As he lay in bed lost in thought, his phone rang—it was Jasmine again. He sighed and picked up.

“Hello dear,” he greeted.

“Hi, how are you doing?” Jasmine asked.

“I’m fine, thanks for asking,” he replied.

But his tone gave him away. Jasmine quickly noticed.

“Are you sure you’re OK?” she asked.

“Yeah, I am,” he said, but she wasn’t convinced.

“I can tell something is wrong. Where are you now?” she pressed.

“I’m in my hotel room,” Tony answered.

“I thought you said you were home? What are you still doing in the hotel?” Jasmine asked curiously.

“Well, I had to come back again today for unfinished business,” he said.

Immediately, Jasmine told him she was coming over. Despite all his efforts to stop her, she refused to listen. While hurrying down to the hotel, she unknowingly carried a bag that had her antiretroviral drugs inside. She had forgotten to remove it after packing her make-up and clothes.

A few hours later, Jasmine arrived at the hotel and went straight to Tony’s room. Deep down, he was happy to see her, though he pretended otherwise. Her company was lively and better than being alone. They ordered food, ate, talked, and laughed together. Later, the mood changed, and Tony knew he was going to sleep with her again—especially since his wife had rejected him the previous night.

The atmosphere got intense, and soon, they made their way to cloud nine. After hours of lo******ng, they fell asleep on each other. By the next morning, Tony woke up first because of an urgent meeting.

As he dressed up, his eyes caught sight of a shiny container inside Jasmine’s open bag. At first, he ignored it, but something pushed him to check.

The moment he picked it up, the words hit him: “Anti-Retroviral Capsules.”

For a moment, the whole world stood still. Tony’s hands shook, his eyes widened, and his chest tightened as reality sank in.

“HIV? No… it can’t be!” he muttered in shock.

THE NIGHTMARE

EPISODE 2

Looks can be very deceptive because most people don’t look like what they are going through in life.

If you ever judge a person by their looks, be assured you will make countless mistakes. Outward appearance is just a small part of a person’s real personality.

Who would have thought that Jasmine was HIV positive? I know HIV patients don’t necessarily have to look a certain way, but the fact that Jasmine lived such a carefree lifestyle despite her health status was shocking and unbelievable.

How could a woman carrying such a deadly virus be so sexually active, sleeping with different men without protection? Isn’t that act selfish and dangerous? The fact that she deliberately went around looking for men to trap was truly wicked of her.

We all know HIV is sexually transmitted, and the danger of Tony catching the virus from Jasmine was real. This meant his innocent and faithful wife, Becca, was also at risk.

It was already bad enough that Tony was close to cheating on his wife, but now there was the added danger of bringing home a virus that could destroy his family. What a disaster waiting to happen!

If only Tony would remember his marriage vows and retrace his steps from cheating on Becca, maybe—just maybe—his family could be saved from heartbreak and danger. At this point, all we can do is hope that things turn out for the best.

After the nurse at the hospital asked Jasmine what her greatest source of encouragement as an HIV patient was, they talked briefly before parting ways. After collecting enough Anti-Retroviral drugs to last for a few months, Jasmine rushed home to freshen up and prepare for her mini date with Tony.

Choosing what to wear wasn’t easy. Jasmine tried on several outfits before finding the perfect one that highlighted her stunning figure. By the time she was ready, she was already running late for the date. She arrived at Tony’s hotel about 30 minutes behind schedule. By then, Tony had finished his business meeting and was relaxing at the pool bar, waiting for her. As soon as he saw her, he adjusted his drink to make space for hers.

“Look who’s here! You’re welcome, have a seat and join me,” Tony said cheerfully. Jasmine smiled, gave him a friendly peck on the cheek, and sat down. “It seems you were busy today, hence the lateness,” Tony remarked. “I know, right? Something urgent held me back. Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Jasmine explained.

The waiter came, and she ordered a drink. They began chatting casually, getting to know each other better. Meanwhile, Tony struggled not to undress her in his mind. The tight dress she wore showed off her curves, and he couldn’t help but steal glances at her body as they talked.

One look at Tony, and Jasmine already knew she had him under control. She knew it would be difficult for him not to think lustful thoughts about her. Being confident in her beauty, she was always one step ahead whenever a man was attracted to her. Tony was in serious trouble, though he didn’t realise it yet.

____________________________

It had been over an hour since they met. As the evening grew darker and things seemed to be heading in the wrong direction, Tony began to remember that he had a beautiful wife who already had everything he was looking for in Jasmine. A part of him wanted to end the meeting and go back to his hotel room, but another part wanted more of Jasmine.

It became a battle of self-control for Tony. Just when it looked like he was going to overcome temptation, things got hotter.

Jasmine was ready to take things further and decided to make the first move. “I’m feeling quite cold out here, aren’t you?” she asked softly, staring into his eyes.

Tony understood where she was heading and thought it best to take her home. “Should I drop you off?” he asked politely. “Hmm, I don’t want to go home yet. I was hoping we could go back to your hotel room,” she replied.

Trying not to argue, Tony agreed, and they both went up to his suite. The room was large and luxurious. Jasmine sat in the lounge area while Tony went to the fridge for drinks. She removed her heels, glanced around the room, and smiled at the thought of being intimate with him. Soon Tony returned with two glasses of wine, and they drank together.

“I see a ring on your finger, are you married?” Jasmine asked after her first sip. Tony smiled faintly and replied boldly, “Yes, I am.” That response only made her desire him more. “Can I ask you something?” she pressed. “Sure,” he answered. “Do you want me?” she asked bluntly.

Tony froze for a moment. Her boldness shocked him. “Why are you asking?” he managed to say. Jasmine leaned closer and replied, “Because I want to know if we are on the same page. There’s nothing I want more right now than to rip your clothes off.”

The atmosphere became charged. Tony battled with mixed feelings—should he walk away and remain faithful to his wife, or fall into Jasmine’s arms? As the tension grew, Jasmine dropped her glass and took his as well. She placed her finger on his lips, dragged down his lower lip, and leaned in for a kiss. Only the grace of God could save him at that moment. As she bent forward, Tony stopped her.

“I can’t do this. I’m married,” Tony said with great difficulty. Jasmine looked deep into his eyes as she unbuttoned his shirt. “Listen, I’m not leaving here tonight without tasting you. I’m not here to take your wife’s place, I just want to make you happy tonight. Relax, forget everything else, and live in this moment—with me,” she whispered seductively, then kissed him. This time, Tony gave in.

Have you ever seen a tigress in bed? Jasmine was one. She was wild, experienced, and in full control. Tony was like a baby in her hands. Becca could never compare—Jasmine was on a whole different level.

But Tony didn’t realise the danger. If only he knew Jasmine was HIV positive, he would have run for his life. Her decision to sleep with men unprotected without telling them her status was pure evil. What would she gain by spreading the deadly virus? It seemed she was depressed or had a haunting past that drove her to seek revenge in this way. Sadly, Tony now had an 80% chance of contracting the virus.

After over three hours of lo******ng, Jasmine fell asleep beside him. Tony lay awake, staring at the ceiling, his conscience tearing him apart.

“What have I just done?” he muttered in guilt.

THE NIGHTMARE

EPISODE 1

Everyone on the face of the earth has their greatest fears. That fear that, whenever you think of the possibility of it happening, your whole body suddenly becomes cold and you start shivering. That fear that has the power to cripple your happiness if you think about it for too long. That fear you don’t even want to dwell on because the thought alone is extremely scary. Well, just as everyone has their greatest fears, so did a woman named Becca.

Several years ago, Becca got married to the love of her life. The man in question was very handsome and well-to-do. His name was Tony, and he was a stockbroker at a highly respected firm. Because of the nature of Tony’s job, he was hardly ever around, but he made a lot of money from it.

In the early stage of their marriage, Becca often felt lonely and complained to her husband to try and balance his work with family time, but every effort to achieve that failed. Though Tony wished to be there for his wife, his busy and tight schedule made it impossible. From the outside, their marriage looked admirable, but no one knew the deep struggles they faced that threatened their happiness as a couple.

As time went by, Becca gradually adjusted to Tony’s busy life and stopped complaining. She was a faithful and good wife; never once did she allow her mind to stray or think of cheating with someone else who could fill the gap. Becca was a virtuous woman who valued the vows of marriage. Sadly, the same could not be said of Tony.

While Tony was starving his wife of his presence, another woman somewhere was receiving all of it. Honestly, Tony never planned to cheat on his wife, but things changed when he met a desperate young lady who knew how to mesmerise men and bend them to her will. A woman who understands her power can move mountains—whether in a good or bad way. Women are extremely powerful, but unfortunately, many don’t know how much power they carry.

The woman who captured Tony’s heart was a lady in her late twenties named Jasmine. Tony met her one evening when he went out for dinner with his business associates. That day, she was sitting across from his table, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t take his eyes off her. It was such an uncomfortable dinner for the married man, but he couldn’t excuse himself because he was with friends.

Interestingly, it wasn’t only Tony who was drawn—Jasmine’s attention was fixed on him too. She sat quietly, making small gestures that kept pulling his attention. It was a tough evening for him, resisting temptation and trying not to betray his wife, but he lost the battle.

When Jasmine noticed Tony and his colleagues were done eating and preparing to leave, she knew she had to act fast. She waited for them to stand up, then quickly pretended to be on a call. As she walked past, she deliberately collided with Tony.

“Ouch! My wrist hurts,” Jasmine lied as her phone fell to the floor.

“I’m so sorry, I wasn’t looking. Are you hurt?” Tony asked politely.

“I think I twisted my wrist,” she lied again.

Tony stretched out his hand and held hers.
“I really don’t know much about bones. Should I take you to the hospital or a clinic?” he asked. She accepted.

Without delay, they walked to Tony’s car in the hotel parking lot and drove off to the nearest clinic. When they arrived, Jasmine was attended to immediately and her wrist was massaged.

“Thank you for everything, I really appreciate it,” she said after receiving treatment.

“It’s okay. Where do you live so I can drop you off before heading back to the hotel?” Tony asked.

“Don’t worry, I stay close by. I’ll take myself home,” she replied. But Tony insisted on driving her.

After much persuasion, Jasmine agreed. He drove her home, and when they arrived, she said again, “Thanks for everything,” and blinked seductively.

“You’re welcome. You’re very pretty, you know?” Tony confessed.

“Thanks, and you’re quite handsome too,” she replied with a blush.

They talked for a while, and Tony couldn’t explain why he was so drawn to her. Something about Jasmine seemed to pull him in. He wanted to leave and avoid being unfaithful, but he couldn’t. The truth was, Jasmine knew exactly what she was doing. Nothing that happened that evening was a coincidence—it was all planned: the collision, the fake pain, everything. After about 30 minutes of conversation, they exchanged numbers and parted ways.

On his way back to the hotel, Tony couldn’t get Jasmine’s beautiful face and curves out of his mind. He fantasised about her the whole drive.

Meanwhile, Jasmine walked a little further from the spot Tony dropped her off and knocked on a door. After three knocks, a handsome guy opened. She smiled, “Hey baby, I missed you.”
“Where have you been? I’ve been waiting,” he asked.

“Blame the traffic, baby. I left three hours ago. Now give me a kiss,” she replied.

The man kissed her softly and pulled her inside. Jasmine chuckled, “Now you’re talking,” and the door shut behind them.

This man was one of Jasmine’s many lovers. She was the perfect example of the kind of woman your mother warned you about. Her looks deceived people into thinking she was classy and decent, but behind closed doors, she lived a wild life. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, there’s more shocking revelation about her, which you will soon find out.

After spending the night with her lover, Jasmine left early the next morning. When she got home, she went straight to the bathroom, sat in the shower, and cried softly under the running water. Her mind was filled with many troubling thoughts until her phone rang.

She got up, checked the caller ID, and instantly knew it was her new “catch”—Tony. She cleared her voice before answering.

“Hello,” she greeted.

“Hi, this is Tony. I hope I’m not disturbing?” he asked.

“Not at all. I was actually expecting your call,” Jasmine replied.

They talked for a while before Tony asked if they could meet again.

“I have a business meeting later today. After that, can we have lunch?” he asked.

Without hesitation, Jasmine accepted, and a date was set.

Each time Tony thought about his faithful wife, he knew she didn’t deserve to be betrayed, but sadly, he couldn’t retrace his steps. Unfortunately, a great calamity was about to fall on him and his household. Too bad that, in the end, someone was going to pay dearly for another person’s mistake.

That same day, Jasmine had a doctor’s appointment. She went to the hospital for her usual check-up and to pick up her medical supplies.

“Good day, ma’am,” she greeted.

“Hello Jasmine, how are you?” the nurse asked.

“I’m fine. Can I get my drugs?” she replied.

“Sure, give me one second,” the nurse said.

After a few minutes, the nurse returned with several packs of anti-retroviral drugs and handed them to her.

As Jasmine packed them into her bag, the nurse asked a shocking question: “What’s your greatest source of encouragement as an HIV patient?”

THE PREGNANT TEENAGER

CHAPTER 7

Immediately I opened the wardrobe, I saw my mother Sandra tied up with her mouth taped. I was shocked. I quickly called my father and Taylor. My father was also shocked to see the love of his life tied up. We rushed to untie her, but she wasn’t moving. She was unconscious. Taylor helped me lay her down on the bed.

I was fully fortified, so much strength and power were swelling inside me. I touched my mother’s head and began to make some incantations. My father just stood there, staring at me in shock. In a matter of seconds, my mother sneezed and regained consciousness. She hugged my father passionately.

“Oh my God, I thought you had left me. I can’t believe I’m seeing you again. I have prayed and longed for this day,” my father said, as tears rolled down his eyes.

“My lovely husband, I can never leave you. You are the only love of my life,” my mother replied as they kissed passionately.

“Oh my lovely daughter, you have grown so much. You look so much like me,” my mother said, hugging me tightly.

I quickly explained everything that had happened — how Chioma, my mother’s best friend, made her run mad, and how she made a wild beast grow inside me. I explained everything without leaving out any detail.

I could see how shocked my mother and father were. I could also see the pain in their eyes.

“My angel, you have suffered enough. You found my wife even when I had lost hope. You are indeed strong and brave. I thank God for bringing you into my life,” my father said, praising me.

“Thank you, father,” I replied.

“Mother, what happened to you? How did you end up here?” I asked.

“Few months after giving birth to you, I regained my sanity. I rushed to the house to look for you and your father, but he wasn’t home. I only met Chioma, who happily welcomed me, not knowing she was luring me to my death. I saw you sleeping soundly in your crib. I was singing a lullaby for you when Chioma blew a powdery substance on my face. The next time I opened my eyes, I found myself in a strange, dark, and cold place. I couldn’t find my way out, not knowing I was locked here all this while. I only cried and prayed for you to find me. I believe you got my messages,” my mother revealed.

“Oh my goodness, mother. I got all your messages, and I never gave up on finding you,” I said.

“Thank you, Taylor, for keeping a close watch on my daughter as I instructed,” my mother said.

“What?” my father and I exclaimed in shock.

“I’m sorry, sir. And I’m sorry, Lisa. I was sent by your mother to keep watch over you. After she went missing, I tried to find her, but all my efforts failed. So, I decided to take the position of being your driver just to watch over you. My name is still Taylor — that never changed. And everything I said about my feelings for you is real. I never faked that,” he said, holding my face tenderly.

I was speechless. I couldn’t even move. I just looked at Taylor, who had been there for me all along, but I never realised.

Soon, the lovely moment was cut short when Chioma barged into the room. She was shocked to see us. She was even more shocked to see my mother conscious again, and she was most surprised to see my belly back to normal.

“How did this happen? How are you awake? How come your belly is back to normal?” Chioma asked in shock.

“Your days are numbered, Chioma. You must pay for all you have done,” my mother muttered.

“I won’t pay for anything!” Chioma shouted back.

“How can you be this wicked? All these things you did — for what?” my father asked.

“Do you know how much I love you, Mike? I was obsessed with you. I fell in love with you the moment Sandra introduced us. I knew I had to do something. She had so much money, she could get any man she wanted. But me? I had nothing. I wanted you at all costs, so I did what had to be done. I gave Sandra a potion that made her lose her sanity,” Chioma confessed.

“You made me run mad — for what? Money? I had so much because of my family. I stood by Mike when he had nothing. I stayed with him and built this empire with him. I remember when you were hawking on the streets, begging for my assistance. I pitied you and helped you, and this is how you repay me?” my mother said, as tears rolled down her eyes.

“Enough of the pity talk! You all have to die!” Chioma said, pulling out a huge red cloth to cover my parents. She began chanting incantations, but they didn’t work. My fortification subdued the forces around her.

I stepped in, grabbed her hands, and looked straight into her eyes. I felt a strong force leave me and dash into her. Immediately, she staggered backwards, started speaking strangely, and ran out of the house into the road. That was when we realised she had gone mad.

_______________________

My parents and I went to my mother’s clan to let them know she had been found. The king, my grandfather, was very happy to see his only daughter alive and well. My grandmother, the queen, declared a feast to celebrate her return.

I was amazed at how they worshipped my mother, praised her, and showered her with gifts. I then realised that female children were highly valued and respected in this clan. My grandparents praised me and gave me a title for my bravery and determination. It became known throughout the clan, and I was excited to experience such a tradition.

Coming back home gave me an overwhelming feeling. Peace and unity were finally restored. I became a whole new person. My father’s happiness knew no bounds. Taylor and I grew closer. I aced my WAEC and JAMB, and I got into the university. I focused more on my studies than material things.

Claire and Mitchell retraced their steps after hearing my story. We all went to the same university, and today, we are living peaceful and successful lives. Claire is now a medical doctor, Mitchell is an architectural engineer, and I ended up as a TV host for a very popular TV channel, just like I dreamed.

I never crossed paths with Chioma again. I later heard she ran into a moving truck and was crushed to pieces. Aunty Pere, on the other hand, disappeared from the face of the earth without a trace. That is what happens to wicked people.

My mother never stopped doing good. She visited the old lady who once helped us and continued to care for her and other elderly women. I never knew my life would be so complicated, yet so interesting. At just 14 years old, I was mysteriously pregnant with a wild beast — but my life changed, and God has been awesome.

Shortly after the success of my TV show, I finally got to be with Taylor. We got married and had three beautiful daughters — Jamie, Lydia, and Gina.

Never give up on life. Be strong, be brave, and put God first. Then you will see how beautiful things will begin to fall into place.

The End.

THE PREGNANT TEENAGER

EPISODE 6

The next morning, I woke up very early and wore my school uniform. I needed to act like I was preparing for school so nobody would suspect anything. I was about to leave my room when suddenly my body changed. I rushed into the toilet as vomit gushed out of my mouth. It didn’t stop—I kept vomiting for almost 5 minutes.

It was strange. “I just hope I’m not pregnant,” I said to myself.

I became so weak that I couldn’t walk properly, but I knew I had to continue the journey to seek THE WHITE PEACE. I couldn’t stop now. I rushed out of my room and hurried down the stairs when I saw Chioma blocking my way.

“Leave the way, I’m late for school,” I said to her.

“I don’t know what you’re up to lately, but soon I will find out,” Chioma replied.

“Is that supposed to be a threat? Wow! You should keep working on that if you want to get a PhD in threatening people,” I replied, trying to push her aside.

“You have no idea what I can do. Don’t mess with me,” she warned.

“Don’t worry, I won’t mess with you. You’re my mother, right? I can’t mess with my mother,” I said, mocking her indirectly, but she didn’t understand what I meant.

Immediately she moved away, and I rushed outside where Taylor was already waiting in the car. I dashed in, and we drove off. Right away, I began changing into another dress, taking off my school uniform. I noticed Taylor glancing at my body through the small mirror in front of him.

“Hey Taylor, stop it!” I warned.

“Sorry, but you have an amazing body. I can’t take my eyes off you,” Taylor said.

“Thanks for the compliment, but this is not the time. I’m about to embark on a journey, so leave the sweet talk for later,” I told him.

When I finished changing, I moved to the front seat and exhaled deeply to calm myself down.

“I thought you were going to school,” Taylor asked, puzzled.

“No, Taylor. I’m going to find THE WHITE PEACE,” I replied.

“Oh, okay. Then buckle up, it’s going to be a very long drive,” he said.

I quickly texted my father, telling him I might not come back home that night. I lied that Claire was hosting a sleepover party and I needed to be there. He replied with a smiley and gave me permission to go.

I felt relieved. I also texted Claire, asking her to cover up for me if my father or Chioma called. She agreed. Suddenly, I felt like throwing up again. I told Taylor to stop the car, and I jumped out to vomit for almost 2 minutes. Taylor became worried.

I got back into the car, and we continued the journey. Taylor kept a sad face and refused to talk. I felt the strange silence.

“Taylor, what is it? Just say it. Don’t keep that sad face,” I said.

“How can you just give yourself to a boy, and now you’re pregnant?” Taylor scolded.

“Taylor, you have no right to tell me what to do. I can’t even remember what happened that night. I was so high, and I just woke up next to Felix,” I snapped back.

“Then you should stop taking drugs or drinking. You’re only 14! How can you be this wild?” he shouted.

“I do drugs because it’s fun and it calms me down. You have no idea what I go through in that house, so stop yelling at me!” I screamed.

After that, we both became quiet. We didn’t speak for hours until we arrived at a hospital far away from our city.

“What are we doing here?” I asked, confused.

“We’re going to check if you’re pregnant,” Taylor said, helping me out of the car.

“Oh my God, Taylor, you’re so stubborn,” I said.

“And so are you,” he replied.

We got into the hospital, and I ran some tests. We sat on a long bench at the reception, waiting for the results. I was weak, so I rested on Taylor’s shoulder. After a while, a nurse called us to the doctor’s office. We walked in quickly, curious to know the result.

“You’re Miss Lisa?” the doctor asked.

“Yes, and this is my driver,” I said, introducing Taylor.

“Well, the pregnancy test is negative. You are not pregnant. Besides, we also ran some other tests… You’re still a virgin,” the doctor revealed.

“How can that be?” I asked, confused.

“Are you serious? She’s still a virgin?” Taylor asked with a bright smile.

I wondered why he was so happy about it. I knew Taylor liked me, but I didn’t expect it to be this much. The doctor handed me the result, and we left. Taylor was cheerful as we continued our journey. We talked about many things, but he never wanted to discuss himself. Anytime I asked, he changed the topic. I didn’t want to argue again, so I left it.

I realised that the more time I spent with Taylor, the more I started changing into a better person. I began to love him and to understand how important it is to be kind to people. Taylor also felt the same way, but I didn’t know how our relationship could work, considering our ages.

Suddenly, I noticed my belly was growing larger. Every minute it grew bigger, and I became scared. This was another kind of witchcraft. I wasn’t pregnant, and I was still a virgin, so why was my belly growing this fast?

I felt something moving inside me. Taylor got scared, and we sped up the journey.

“Ahhhhhh, ahhhh!” I screamed, holding my swollen belly.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, holding my hands to comfort me, but it didn’t help.

“Something is moving inside me. Help me!” I cried.

The pain was unbearable. My abdomen felt like it was being broken with a hammer and chisel. My eyes turned red from constant tears.

---

After about an hour, we reached my mother’s clan. We parked the car by the roadside and entered the bush in search of THE WHITE PEACE.

We wandered in the bush for hours. My belly kept growing bigger. I was scared, and so was Taylor.

We walked in circles and always ended up back at the car. This went on for hours until I remembered the riddle: “You have eyes but cannot see. Look hard and you will see.”

I looked harder into the forest and then saw a path. Taylor and I followed it and soon arrived at a white house.

“Taylor, you have to wait for me here. Remember what Mercy, the old lady, said—only daughters of kings and queens are allowed to enter. You have to wait,” I reminded him.

“I understand. Please be safe. And remember, I love you,” Taylor replied.

“It’s too early to say that, Taylor,” I said.

“I know, but I have to say it before it’s too late,” he said, his eyes filled with tears.

“Thanks for supporting me. You’ve changed me in just a few hours,” I said, holding his face.

“You changed me too. I promise to tell you more about myself when all this is over,” Taylor replied.

I smiled at him and walked into the compound. Everywhere was quiet. I looked around, admiring the golden sculptures of women. I walked to the front door, trembling with fear. I knocked softly, and immediately the door opened.

I was scared, but I had to be brave to bring peace to my home and make my father happy again.

Inside the house was massive, furnished with white chairs and beautiful decorations. Suddenly, a lady appeared, calling my name.

“Lisa, daughter of Sandra Bullock Odinaka, what brings you here?” THE WHITE PEACE asked. She was frightening. Everything about her was white—her clothes, beads, and hair. Looking at her could almost blind you.

“I’m sorry to disturb you, but I’m looking for THE WHITE PEACE,” I stammered.

“I am THE WHITE PEACE,” she replied.

“Please, I need your help. My mother has been missing since I was born. I need your help to find her,” I said boldly.

“The one you seek is close to you. You just need to look harder,” she said.

“What do you mean? Please explain,” I asked.

“Sandra is in your house. She has been there all along. You must find her quickly, or you may lose her,” she replied.

“Oh no!” I exclaimed.

“My child, you come from a great royal family. Your star is so bright that it blinds even you. Do not let fear swallow you. Be brave, be strong, because a great battle lies ahead. But don’t worry, I will fortify you so that you will be unbreakable,” THE WHITE PEACE said.

“Thank you so much,” I said, bowing my head.

“But first, you must give me that beast growing in your belly, as a sacrifice,” she requested.

“What beast?” I asked, confused. She laughed loudly, almost rolling on the floor.

“My child, a beast is growing inside you. Your enemy put it there to bring shame to you and your father,” she said.

“She made you fall into a deep sleep at your party. She used cattle’s blood to invoke the beast inside you. Don’t you know she is the daughter of the devil? As long as you breathe, that beast will keep growing,” she added.

“Why would she do this to me, after causing my father and mother so much pain?” I asked as tears rolled down my face.

“You are the precious apple of your father’s eyes. She wants to destroy you. But don’t worry, you have come to the right place. She will not win,” she assured me.

At that moment, I remembered everything from that night. Felix wasn’t with me—it was her. She put me to bed, poured blood on me, and lured Felix to sleep next to me. I might be stubborn, but I wasn’t willing to lose my virginity at 14. Jesus Christ, what a wicked world.

THE WHITE PEACE fortified me, and my belly went back to normal. I felt stronger than ever, like I could carry ten people at once. I rushed out of the house.

Taylor was shocked to see my belly flat and my eyes clear. I didn’t say a word until we got into the car.

“Taylor, drive as fast as you can back home. I have to save my mother,” I said.

“Okay,” he replied as we sped off.

On the way, I told him everything THE WHITE PEACE had revealed. He was amazed. I was happy to have myself back, but I was also afraid my father would be heartbroken if he saw me like that.

-------------------

It was already late at night when we arrived home. I didn’t care about the lie I told about sleeping at Claire’s house. I just entered the house with Taylor following me to ensure my safety.

I rushed into my father’s room. He was asleep, but I woke him up. Shocked, he checked his watch—it was 11:45pm.

“Lisa, you came back this late? Do you know how dangerous it is?” he asked. I ignored his questions.

“Taylor, why didn’t you come back after dropping her at school?” my father asked.

“Sir, there’s a bigger problem,” Taylor replied.

“What problem?” my father asked, confused.

“You have to get up. Where is your wife, Chioma?” I asked.

“She should be in her room,” he replied.

“Let’s go, Father. Hurry!” I said.

“You know she doesn’t let anyone into her room,” he said. But I was determined, thinking I might find a clue about my mother’s location.

We rushed to Chioma’s room. When we opened the door, she wasn’t there. We searched everywhere, but nothing. I went straight to the wardrobe, hoping to find something that could lead us to my mother.
