Lagos State Commissions New Fresh Food Hub, Agege

This comes after the state handed over Mushin Food Hub in December 2023 as well as the recent Abijo Food Hub in Ibeju Lekki.

The state is also building Central Food Security Systems and Logistics in Ketu-Ereyun in Epe division of the state.

The whole idea according to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is to ensure food security in the state.

Lagos reaffirms commitment to enabling environment for MSMEs

Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that enables Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to thrive, describing the sector as a critical driver of economic growth, job creation and wealth generation.

The assurance was given on Thursday as the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), under the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, unveiled a three-day Access to Market Fair, tagged "Lagos on Display," at the JJT Park, Alausa, Ikeja.

The fair brought together about 300 entrepreneurs and featured business support services, including on-the-spot loan applications, enrolment into the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme (Ilera Eko), product exhibitions and discounted sales aimed at expanding market access for local businesses.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's unwavering commitment to building an enabling environment where entrepreneurs can unlock their full potential and grow sustainable businesses.

Represented by the Director of Employment in the ministry, Mr. Sh*tta Demilola, the commissioner said the state government remains focused on implementing policies and programmes that promote enterprise development, skills acquisition, employment generation and sustainable wealth creation.

According to him, the LSETF has so far disbursed more than ₦15 billion to over 10,000 businesses, demonstrating the government's sustained investment in strengthening the state's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

He noted that beyond providing financial support, the Access to Market initiative creates a sustainable pathway that connects production to visibility, visibility to sales and sales to long-term business growth.

"The Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment is responsible for developing and implementing policies and programmes that promote employment generation, enterprise development, skills development and sustainable wealth creation for the people of Lagos State.
"Our mandate is to create an enabling environment where individuals and businesses can thrive while expanding the economic opportunities that drive the continued growth and prosperity of Lagos State.
"The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund is a key agency established to advance this mandate. Today, we are pleased to introduce another important milestone in that journey, Access to Market, an initiative that reflects our shared commitment to strengthening Lagos State's entrepreneurial ecosystem and creating sustainable pathways for business growth," he said.

Also speaking, the Executive Director of LSETF, Mrs. Feyisara Alayande, represented by the Director of Programmes, Ms. Oyindamola Egbeyemi, said the fair was designed to showcase the diversity, innovation and quality of products and services developed by Lagos-based entrepreneurs.

She encouraged residents to support locally made products, noting that increased patronage would strengthen businesses, stimulate economic growth and create more employment opportunities.

"We appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for creating the opportunity for LSETF and the ministry to continue supporting micro, small and medium enterprises, which remain the drivers of the state's economy.

"This is a market stimulation initiative because we recognise that it is not enough to provide loans. Businesses also need access to markets. Lagos is the best market in the world, and we want entrepreneurs to start in Lagos and grow beyond the state," she said.

In her goodwill message, the Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Adenike Oshinowo, reaffirmed the legislature's commitment to supporting policies and initiatives that promote entrepreneurship and strengthen the state's business environment.

She said the Assembly would continue to collaborate with the executive arm to build an ecosystem where innovation is rewarded, enterprise is encouraged and promising businesses are given every opportunity to succeed.

Lagos Clerics Pray for Peace, Security Ahead of 2027 Election

The Council of Chief Imams in Lagos State has convened a prayer session for peace to reign across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general election.

They also used the spiritual gathering to pray for Nigeria President, Bola Tinubu and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 election in Lagos State, Dr Kadiri Hamzat.

Speaking during the special prayer session organised by the Ikeja Division of the Council, the Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Islamic Matter, Dr. Abdulahi Jebe said that it is important to pray ahead for events that are still ahead of you, so as to attract God's intervention.

Jebe said that Nigerians want a free, fair and non-chaos election and with prayer and sensitisation this could be achieved.

"As we move ahead for the next campaign and election, we are appealing to everybody to perform their civic rights and do the needful to be obedient to the constituted authority. And we must continue to ask God for guidance and forgiveness so that Goes can ease our affairs." he said

In his remark, the National Director General of Grassroots Movement for Bola Tinubu, Hon. Bisi Yusuf said prayer for the nation to thrive is not too much, particularly when it comes from the Clerics who genuinely have the country at heart.

According to him "Prayer is the most important in a human's life and for our grand Imams and the large gathering here today to have organized this kind of prayer for the nation, for peace to reign and for development of the nation, especially for our father, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, this to me is commendable."

The Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaiman Abu Nola, emphasised the importance of prayer in human life while also stressed the right to observe the civic responsibility.

"Besides, we are mobilizing our people that they have the civic responsibility of going to collect their voter's card and going for the election to participate. We Muslim have to participate too, because it's our civic responsibility. Also, we need to pray for our nation, because the love of the nation is part of faith. So we need to be part of it and need to pray and make our own contribution. So today is part of our contribution to the development of our nation, to the peace and progress of our nation and prosperity." he stressed

The host of the event, the Chairman of Ikeja Local government, Mr. Hakeem Dauda appreciated the conveners of the prayer for keeping patriotism at the fore front while also seeking spiritual support for the leaders, particularly President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Kadiri Hamzat.

He charged Lagos residents and the entire Nigerians to develop the spirit of patriotism towards nations building, and this according to him will engender peace and tranquility across the country.

Lagos Empowers Youths Across Five Divisions

Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development and its agency, the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has continued its skills acquisition and empowerment programme across the five divisions of the state.

The gesture according to the government is targeted at promoting financial independence and economic prosperity.

The latest empowerment programme on Bread and Pastries Production was held at the Lafiaji Community Centre, Obalende, Lagos Island, where participants received intensive practical training and production tools to enable them establish and grow their own businesses.

Delivering his keynote address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's commitment to empowering communities is anchored on his vision of making Lagos State a 21st Century Economy.

According to Dr. Agbaje, the Governor's developmental agenda extends beyond individual empowerment to the provision of critical rural infrastructure, including feeder roads, electrification and potable water, all of which have significantly enhanced the growth of micro and small-scale enterprises in rural communities.

He said "Over the past seven years, the State Government's consistent investments in empowerment and infrastructure development have contributed immensely to reducing rural-urban migration by creating sustainable economic opportunities within local communities."

Agbaje noted that the current empowerment initiative is another demonstration of the administration's unwavering commitment to improving the livelihoods of residents of several communities across the State.

In her special remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, reaffirmed Governor Sanwo-Olu's dedication to building the Lagos of everyone's dreams.

She encouraged participants to pay close attention during the training sessions, describing the programme as a life-changing opportunity capable of improving their standard of living and securing their economic future.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of the Centre for Rural Development, Mr. Musibau Balogun, expressed appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for consistently supporting initiatives that positively impact the lives of residents. He urged participants to maximise the opportunity by acquiring the skills diligently and applying them productively after the training.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adegbite Oshodi expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued concern for the welfare of ordinary citizens and his deliberate efforts to cushion prevailing economic challenges through empowerment initiatives.

She assured the government that beneficiaries would make effective use of the equipment provided to improve their livelihoods while contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the State.

The well-attended programme forms part of several empowerment initiatives being implemented by the Centre for Rural Development to enhance the quality of life of residents and promote sustainable socio-economic development across Lagos State.

Lagos Resident Hails Emergency Responders For Saving His 7-Month-Old Daughter

A resident of Lagos State, Muhammad Armayau has applauded the state’s emergency responders for acting swiftly to save his 7-month old daughter.

Armayau who resides in Badagry area of the state disclosed this to journalists on Monday, saying his daughter fell seriously sick in the middle of the night, during a heavy downpour and there was no car to take the child to the hospital.

He said his family heaved a sigh of relief when they put a call through to 112, the state’s government emergency toll free line.

Armayau explained that, ‘’ My seven-month-old daughter developed a high fever after battling an elevated temperature for two days. When the thermometer read 38.5°C, panic set in. With heavy rain falling and no means of transportation, my wife and i tried to bring the fever down by gently wiping the baby with a wet towel while waiting for the rain to subside.’’

According to him, at about 4:07 a.m., he called 112 and explained the situation to an emergency response officer, who immediately requested his address and a nearby landmark after hearing the baby crying in the background.

‘’Twenty minutes later, the Lagos Emergency Response Call Centre called back to confirm that an ambulance had already been dispatched. Because it was still dark, the officer discussed the best way for the ambulance crew to locate the family.

‘’By 5:07 a.m., the rain had eased, and another call informed me that the ambulance was waiting at the Checkpoint Bus Stop. The family quickly rode on a motorcycle to the location, where the ambulance team was already waiting.

‘’After assessing the baby's condition, the medical personnel recommended taking her to General Hospital, Badagry, since the family's nearest Primary Health Centre at Ilepo does not operate round the clock.’’

According to Armayau, the ambulance was unable to reach his home because of the poor condition of the Ibiye–Checkpoint–Magbon road, which had become difficult to access due to the heavy rainfall.

He described the response as remarkable, noting that the ambulance travelled approximately 24 kilometres from General Hospital, Badagry, simply to attend to their emergency.

Armayau noted that at the hospital, the baby received immediate medical attention, saying,’’ i paid ₦2,000 to open a new patient file, ₦8,000 for laboratory tests, including a Full Blood Count (FBC) and malaria test, and about ₦4,000 for prescribed medications.’’

He added that if their Lagos State Health Insurance coverage had still been active, the total cost would have been just ₦1,400.

Apart from those payments, he said there were no consultation fees or ambulance charges, describing the experience as an example of public services funded by taxpayers delivering real value to residents.

Armayau also commended the cleanliness of General Hospital, Badagry, and acknowledged the dedication of the healthcare workers on duty.

While praising the emergency response and healthcare services, he appealed to the Lagos State government to rehabilitate the Ibiye–Checkpoint–Magbon road, employ more doctors at General Hospital, Badagry, upgrade the Ilepo Primary Health Centre to a 24-hour facility, improve electricity supply in the community, and work towards a unified electronic medical record system across government hospitals.

He also appreciated ongoing infrastructure projects in Badagry, including road rehabilitation and improvements around the General Hospital, noting that better roads significantly enhance emergency response and save lives.

Describing the experience as one he had only seen in developed countries, Armayau expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Emergency Response Team and all frontline health workers for their commitment to protecting lives.

Lagos Calls for Repositioning of Africa’s Hospitality Industry

The Lagos State Government has reiterated the need for higher service standards, innovation, and stronger stakeholder collaboration to position Africa’s hospitality industry as a globally competitive sector capable of driving sustainable economic growth.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. T**e Benson-Awoyinka, made this known at the first day of the 8th Hotel Managers Conference Africa (HMCA) 2026, held at the InterContinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, 11th July 2026.

Welcoming delegates to Lagos, the Commissioner who was represented at the event by the Director of Administration and Human Resources of the Ministry, Mr. Taoreed Dosunmu, conveyed the warm greetings of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the people of Lagos State.

“I extend a special welcome to our distinguished guests who have travelled from different parts of Nigeria, across Africa, and beyond. Your presence here demonstrates our collective commitment to transforming Africa’s hospitality industry into a globally competitive sector that drives economic prosperity, creates employment opportunities, and fosters cultural exchange,” she said.

Speaking on the conference theme, “Raising the Bar: Sales, Service and Standards for a Competitive Africa,” Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka described it as timely and relevant to the evolving realities of the hospitality industry.

“As Africa continues to experience greater regional integration through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), increasing intra-African travel, and growing global demand for authentic African experiences, we must deliberately position ourselves to take full advantage of these emerging opportunities. The future belongs to destinations that embrace innovation, prioritise customer satisfaction, and remain committed to excellence,” she stated.

The Commissioner observed that today’s travellers seek more than quality accommodation, noting that visitors now desire experiences that seamlessly combine comfort, culture, cuisine, entertainment, safety, and exceptional customer service.

“Our hotels must evolve beyond being mere places of accommodation to becoming destinations that tell authentic African stories, celebrate our rich heritage, and create memorable experiences that encourage repeat visits,” she added.

She urged hotel owners, operators, and managers to strengthen strategic partnerships with tour operators, airlines, event organisers, players in the creative industry, and technology-driven platforms to develop integrated tourism offerings that showcase the continent’s unique cultural and tourism assets.

Mrs. Benson-Awoyinka further emphasised that while infrastructure attracts visitors, excellent service is what builds loyalty and sustains destination competitiveness.

“The warmth and hospitality for which Africans are renowned must be complemented by professionalism, continuous capacity building, innovation, and consistency in service delivery. These are the qualities that distinguish world-class hospitality destinations,” she remarked.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Lagos State Government to tourism development, the Commissioner noted that the State remains focused on creating an enabling environment for investment, innovation, and sustainable tourism growth in line with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Development Agenda.

She explained that ongoing investments in infrastructure, transportation, security, destination marketing, and the creative economy continue to reinforce Lagos’ position as Africa’s preferred destination for business, leisure, entertainment, and cultural tourism.

“As a government, we see ourselves not merely as regulators but as partners in progress. When the hospitality industry thrives, tourism expands; when tourism expands, businesses flourish, employment opportunities increase, and our communities prosper,” she concluded.

The Convener of the Hotel Managers Conference Africa, Mr. Olugbenga Sunday, described the conference as “a movement dedicated to reshaping the future of African hospitality.”

Reflecting on the vision behind the initiative, he said, “When we started this journey, we asked ourselves a simple but profound question: What will it take for African hotels not merely to survive but to compete successfully on the global stage?”

He expressed confidence that African investors and hospitality operators have significantly improved service standards across the continent, from Accra to Lagos, demonstrating that Africa possesses the capacity to compete with the best hospitality destinations worldwide.

According to him, “Service standards documented in manuals are meaningless if guests do not experience them. Exceptional service is not created by policies alone; it is built through culture, commitment, continuous improvement, and consistent delivery by every member of staff.”

Mr. Sunday disclosed that this year’s conference attracted over 1,000 participants from 16 African countries, reflecting the growing influence of the platform across the continent.

Renewed Hope National Home grown School Feeding Programme Manager, stakeholders seek private sector support to boost children's nutrition

The Lagos State Government has partnered with the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme to launch "Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS," an initiative aimed at providing nutritious breakfast snacks to primary school pupils and improving learning outcomes across schools.

Speaking at a press conference on the initiative, which is expected to be launched in Lagos next week, Tuesday, June 30, by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Dr. Aderemi Adebowale, said the intervention was designed to ensure that no child is deprived of quality education because of hunger.

Adebowale said Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought—PBAT FEEDS in Lagos State is being supported by the three tiers of government: federal, state, and local governments.

She therefore commended President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Minister for Humanitarian and Poverty Reduction; the National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), the entire 57 council and LCDA chairmen in Lagos State and various partners for supporting the programme.

She explained that the initiative seeks to mobilise individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists, development partners, faith-based organisations and communities to support the nutritional needs of schoolchildren through a transparent school adoption model.

Dr. Adebowale noted that the "Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS" programme aligns with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, promoting child welfare, educational development, and human capital growth.

She also unveiled an innovative digital dashboard that will allow sponsors to adopt schools, monitor implementation, track beneficiaries, and assess the impact of their contributions in real time.

"The initiative is about feeding minds, fueling learning, and building futures. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn without the burden of hunger," she said.

Dr Adebowale, who noted that hunger remains a major challenge affecting children's concentration, school attendance, classroom participation, and academic performance, said the Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS programme seeks to address classroom hunger, improve concentration, boost school attendance, and enhance academic performance among pupils through community and private sector support.

She said the programme is designed to ensure that primary school pupils begin their day with nutritious breakfast snacks to improve learning outcomes, adding that it will also boost food security and national security.

Also speaking, the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, urged stakeholders and private sector operators to support local farmers who will be engaged in supplying food items for the programme.

Olusanya disclosed that the initiative would commence with a pilot phase in Lagos State, targeting thousands of pupils across public primary schools while creating opportunities for local agricultural producers.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, described the Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Nigerian children.

Omotoso noted that the programme would not only improve access to nutritious meals but also contribute to reducing the number of out-of-school children.

He appealed to the private sector, development partners, and well-meaning Nigerians to support and embrace the initiative to ensure its sustainability and impact. He also called on corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to support the programme, describing it as an investment in the future of the nation's children.

Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Tolani Ali-Balogun, said the programme is aimed at addressing poverty and improving the academic performance of schoolchildren.

He said access to nutritious meals in a conducive learning environment is critical to building a brighter future for children and enhancing educational outcomes.

The project consultants, Mrs. Olufunke Adu and Jennifer Odufuwa of Tantacom Ltd., expressed commitment to the success of the Adopt a School for Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS initiative scheduled to take place in Lagos from June 30 to July 3 across the three senatorial districts and 57 councils of the State.

Eko Schools Arts, Crafts competition births new discoveries

Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Tourism Art and Culture has identified more skilful young talents at the grand finale of the Eko Schools Arts and Crafts Competition 2.0.

The event, held at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa on Tuesday, had in attendance school children across the five districts of the State, whose selected winners among them secured one-year scholarships from the state government.

Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, said the event is a celebration of creativity, innovation, culture, and the limitless potential of young Lagosians with primary objective to discover, nurture, and showcase artistic talents among students across the state.

Oyekan-Ismaila disclosed that about 489 entries were received, while 132 contestants eventually submitted entries from schools across the five divisions of Lagos State and selected tertiary institutions.

She stressed that the creative industry has become a major driver of economic growth, innovation, employment, and global recognition, stressing the need to "catch them young" for the future.

According to her, the 2026 edition of the competition had participants competed in categories including painting, drawing, sculpture, beadwork, textile design, leatherwork, digital art, and upcycling.

“Today is not merely a competition finale; it is a celebration of creativity, innovation, culture, and the boundless potentials of young Lagosians. And beyond the prizes and awards, every participant deserves recognition. Every artwork tells a unique story, and every student who expressed their creativity through art is a winner.
"The competition's theme, “This Is Lagos,” challenged participants to creatively interpret the identity, heritage, resilience, innovation, and diversity of the state. The artworks on display successfully captured Lagos’ cultural heritage, vibrant communities, entrepreneurial spirit, and commitment to sustainability." she said

Oyekan-Ismaila who commended all participants for their efforts reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening arts education, skills development, mentorship programmes, and creative platforms for young people.

The ceremony got to a climax with the presentation of awards and prizes to outstanding participants.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education, Mrs Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite who represented the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro at the event said Art and crafts are not merely extracurricular activities, but are powerful tools of expression, critical thinking, cultural preservation.

He also restated the commitment of the state government to continue to promote holistic education through that goes beyond the classroom to nurture creativity.
