Ayatutu in Tiv Land: A Call Back to Love and Unity:
In the history and culture of Tiv land, one of the greatest values our ancestors held dearly is Ayatutu — the spirit of brotherhood, love, and peaceful coexistence among the Tiv people. Ayatutu is more than just a word; it represents unity, mutual respect, and the understanding that we are stronger together than divided.
Sadly, in recent times, conflicts, jealousy, and unnecessary rivalry have begun to weaken the bond that once made Tiv land a shining example of communal living. When brothers fight brothers, and neighbors turn against each other, the foundation of our heritage becomes threatened.
Our forefathers taught us that a Tiv person is never alone. In the days of old, when one person was in need, the entire community stood with them. When someone celebrated, the whole village rejoiced together. That was Ayatutu.
Today, Tiv people must return to that same spirit.
Reasons we must return to Ayatutu:
1. Unity brings strength. When Tiv people stand together, no challenge is too big to overcome.
2. Peace brings development. Communities that live in harmony grow faster socially and economically.
3. Our identity depends on it. Ayatutu is a core value that defines who we are as Tiv people. Losing it means losing part of our culture.
4. The future generation is watching. The example we set today will shape how our children treat one another tomorrow.
Let us remember that before politics, before personal interests, and before disagreements, we are Tiv first. Our strength has always been in our unity.
It is time to rebuild the spirit of Ayatutu — to forgive, to support one another, and to restore the love that once made Tiv land peaceful and strong.
When Tiv people choose love over conflict, the whole land prospers.
