SANWO-OLU SEEKS LONG-TERM DIASPORA INVESTMENTS FOR LAGOS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called for deeper and long-term investment partnerships with members of the African diaspora, saying Lagos is ready to attract capital and strategic partnerships across key sectors of its economy.

Sanwo-Olu made the call after participating in the inaugural Africa Business Investment Summit in Washington, D.C., United States, held under the patronage of His Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The governor said the summit provided an opportunity to engage with investors, business leaders and policymakers on practical ways of strengthening economic partnerships and creating sustainable opportunities in Africa.

According to him, his engagements with diaspora investors and business leaders focused on how to translate investment interest into tangible projects and economic opportunities back home.

Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as Africa’s largest sub-national economy and said the state offers significant opportunities for investors seeking long-term partnerships in infrastructure, technology, finance and other strategic sectors.

He said the Lagos State Government remains committed to creating partnerships capable of stimulating economic growth, attracting investment and generating employment opportunities for residents.

“Lagos is ready for deep, long-term partnerships,” the governor said, adding that the opportunities being created across the state are significant and that “the time to invest is now.”

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining an investor-friendly environment, saying Lagos would continue to engage international investors and business leaders in its drive to expand economic opportunities.

He also stressed the importance of partnerships that go beyond capital investment to include job creation, innovation and sustainable economic development.

The governor said Lagos would continue to position itself as a leading destination for business and investment in Africa, while strengthening collaborations capable of delivering lasting economic benefits.

His participation in the Washington summit is part of efforts to deepen Lagos’ engagement with the global investment community and attract new opportunities to the state.

Sanwo-Olu reiterated that Lagos remains open for business, urging investors to take advantage of the opportunities emerging across the state’s infrastructure, technology, finance and other key sectors.

Nigeria, Thailand Seek Deeper Bilateral Ties

Nigeria and Thailand have agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation in technology, agriculture, commerce and renewable energy.

Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this after receiving a Thai delegation led by its Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shettima said Nigeria was seeking a strategic review of its existing relationship with Thailand, particularly to leverage the Asian country’s expertise in deploying intermediate technology in agriculture.

He stressed that the relationship should extend beyond traditional areas such as crude oil and rice production.

Thailand, according to the Vice President, also proposed a Thailand-Africa Initiative aimed at strengthening people-to-people relations, economic ties and cooperation, particularly in agriculture.

Shettima said the initiative would provide an opportunity for both countries to build on their existing cordial relations and develop partnerships with broader economic and developmental benefits.

Sanwo-Olu Celebrates Eid-el-Maulud, Urges Lagos Muslims to Embrace Compassion and Peace

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended warm greetings to Muslims across Lagos as the state joins the Muslim Ummah in commemorating Eid-el-Maulud, the anniversary of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

In his message, the governor reflected on the enduring lessons of the Prophet’s life and teachings, particularly the values of kindness, patience, compassion and peaceful coexistence.

Sanwo-Olu encouraged Muslims to use the occasion not merely as a time of celebration, but also as an opportunity for deeper reflection on the principles exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), including love for humanity, tolerance and concern for others.

“Today, as we mark Eid el-Maulud, I extend my warmest wishes to all our Muslim brothers and sisters across Lagos,” the governor said.

He emphasised the importance of translating the values associated with the Prophet’s life into everyday relationships and community life, urging residents to show greater kindness and understanding towards one another.

The governor also prayed for peace, prosperity and divine guidance for Lagos State, its residents and their families.

“May our homes be filled with joy, and may Allah continue to guide and bless our state and our people,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu concluded his message by wishing Muslims across Lagos a peaceful and blessed celebration.

“Eid Mubarak.”

The governor’s message comes as Muslims across Nigeria observe the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud celebration. The Federal Government declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday in honour of the occasion, urging Nigerians to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, service and peaceful coexistence associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The emphasis on religious harmony also aligns with Sanwo-Olu’s broader position that peaceful coexistence among Lagos’ diverse religious communities remains essential to the stability and development of the state.

Violence has no gender.

When we talk about physical and emotional abuse, the conversation often focuses on women. But men can be victims too. They can be beaten, humiliated, manipulated, threatened, emotionally broken, and suffer in silence because society expects them to “be strong.”

Dr. Hussein Ninche sheds light on the reality of physical and emotional violence, reminding us that no one deserves to be abused, man or woman.

Let’s create a culture where every victim feels safe enough to speak, seek help, and walk away from abuse.

When conflict becomes violence, nobody wins.

Shouting, pushing and hitting are all wrong, regardless of who started the argument. Being provoked does not make violence permissible, and being hurt does not justify hurting someone back.

If a disagreement reaches the point of physical aggression, the priority should be to step away, calm down, seek help and address the underlying issues safely. Marriage should be a place of mercy, respect and protection, not fear.

And when it comes to Islam, accountability does not disappear simply because the other person misbehaved first.

What do you think: How should couples handle conflict when arguments become physical?
Dr.Hussein Ninche did justice to the question
