GAZA RECOVERY PLAN: TRUMP’S BOARD ANNOUNCES 66 PROJECTS IN SIX MONTHS

Donald Trump’s Board of Peace has unveiled a $2.45 billion six-month recovery programme for Gaza covering 66 projects focused on housing, power, waste removal, healthcare and infrastructure. The board says $18 billion has been pledged but only $280 million has so far been made available, while full recovery and reconstruction is estimated at about $71.4 billion over the next decade. Implementation still faces major challenges involving funding, security, governance, unexploded ordnance and unresolved Israeli-Palestinian political issues.

IRAN’S PRESIDENT DEFIES TRUMP AND CALLS FOR DIPLOMACY AT UN

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has rejected Donald Trump’s threat to “annihilate” Iran while saying Tehran remains willing to negotiate an end to the nearly seven-month war. Iran says any agreement must include an end to the US blockade and a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, while also insisting on its right to peaceful nuclear technology. The comments came as US and Iranian officials held their first reported mediated talks since June on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

XI VISITS WASHINGTON AS US-CHINA TRADE TRUCE RUNS TO JANUARY

The United States and China have agreed to extend their trade truce until 10 January 2027, giving both sides two additional months to negotiate a broader economic agreement. 15 MEN SENTENCED TO MORE THAN 220 YEARS EACH OVER SRI LANKA EASTER ATTACKS

A Sri Lankan court has convicted 15 men over their involvement in the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings and sentenced each to at least 220 years in prison. The attacks on churches and luxury hotels killed 267 people and injured nearly 600, while nine other defendants were acquitted and another died before trial. Although the convictions conclude a lengthy court case, investigations continue into allegations surrounding the wider planning of the attacks and possible links to elements within the former Sri Lankan state.

BURNHAM ANNOUNCES NEW UK CENTRE TO TACKLE FOREIGN INFORMATION ATTACKS
