NIMASA, Mission To Seafarers Strengthen Partnership On SeafarersThe Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the welfare and wellbeing of Nigerian seafarers through stronger collaboration with key maritime stakeholders, including the Mission to Seafarers (MtS).

The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, made this known while receiving the Chairman, Management Committee of Mission to Seafarers (MtS) Lagos, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, OON, and the Regional Director, Mission to Seafarers Africa, Reverend Cedric Rautenbach, on a courtesy visit to the Agency's headquarters in Lagos.

Speaking during the visit, Executive Director Operations, NIMASA, Engr. Fatai Taiye Adeyemi who represented the NIMASA DG reiterated the Agency’s resolve to continue implementing policies and initiatives that enhance the welfare and professional development of Nigerian seafarers.

According to him, "NIMASA remains committed to improving the welfare of seafarers through enhanced certification processes, capacity development, and policies that promote their wellbeing and professional advancement. We will continue to collaborate with stakeholders such as the Mission to Seafarers to ensure that seafarers receive the support they deserve both at sea and in port."

Earlier, the Chairman, Management Committee of Mission to Seafarers Lagos, Chief Adebayo Sarumi, expressed appreciation to NIMASA for receiving the delegation and commended the Agency's ongoing reforms in the maritime sector. He noted that the Mission to Seafarers has remained committed globally to providing welfare, pastoral care, and practical support to seafarers, while expressing confidence that deeper collaboration with NIMASA would further improve the welfare of maritime professionals in Nigeria.

The Regional Director, Mission to Seafarers Africa, Reverend Cedric Rautenbach, explained that although the Mission to Seafarers and the Port Welfare Committee share the common objective of improving the welfare of seafarers, both organisations operate under distinct but complementary mandates. He emphasized that greater collaboration among stakeholders would strengthen support systems available to seafarers calling at Nigerian ports.

The visit provided an opportunity for both organisations to discuss issues bordering on seafarers' welfare, decent working conditions, and areas of mutual collaboration aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of seafarers and strengthening welfare support services within Nigeria's maritime sector.

NIMASA has continued to champion initiatives that safeguard the rights and welfare of Nigerian seafarers in line with international best practices and the provisions of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), 2006. Through sustained stakeholder engagement, strengthened regulatory oversight, and policies that promote decent work, the Agency remains committed to ensuring that seafarers operate in an environment where their rights, welfare, and professional development are adequately protected.

NASENI To Showcase Nigeria’s Finest Homegrown Innovations At Final Pitching ExerciseThe National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) will, on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, host the Final Pitching Exercise of the NASENI Innovation Assessment & Awards Programme (NIAAP), bringing together some of Nigeria's most promising innovators to compete for top honours in the Agency's Intra-Agency and Inter-Agency Innovation Competitions.

The Final Pitching Exercise marks the culmination of NASENI's boldest innovation competition yet. From 180 applications submitted across NASENI Development Institutes and 81 applications received from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) nationwide, a rigorous assessment process has produced the Top 10 Finalists in both competition categories, who will now present their innovations in live pitches before a distinguished panel of experts.

Dangote, Sinoma Sign $800 Million MOU To Expand Itori Cement Plant Capacity To 12 MTA…Expansion Project to Strengthen Nigeria's Position as a Major Cement Export Hub

Dangote Industries Limited and Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) valued over $800 million for the expansion of the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun State, increasing its production capacity to 12 million metric tons per annum.

The agreement was signed by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Sinoma, Lin Zhong, underscoring the long-standing strategic partnership between the two organizations and their shared commitment to advancing industrial development in Africa.

Under the agreement, the expansion project will significantly increase the production capacity of the Itori plant, enabling Dangote Cement to further meet growing domestic demand while substantially strengthening its export capabilities. The investment is expected to reinforce Nigeria's position as a leading cement-producing nation and expand the country's footprint in regional and international cement markets.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Aliko Dangote described the project as a major milestone in the company's long-term growth strategy and its commitment to supporting Nigeria's industrialisation agenda

While thanking President Bola Tinubu for providing enabling environment for businesses to thrive, he attributed his decisions to expand the capacity of his cement Plant, in Itori, to the country’s new drive towards using concrete for its road construction and also the to export to needy African countries, all in line with the company’s vision 2030 of producing 90 to 100 metric tons per annum

China, Italy-Bound Co***ne Intercepted In Local Mortar, Backpack In LagosOperatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of co***ne concealed in local mortar and false bottom of a backpack packaged for shipment to China and Italy respectively through a logistics company in Lagos.

The seizures made by NDLEA officers of the Directorate of Operation and General Investigations (DOGI) on Thursday 30th July 2026 was disclosed on Sunday, 2nd August, 2026 by the Mr. Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Headquarters, Abuja.

He added that the drugs include 250grams of co***ne factory fitted into the base of a local mortar packed in a carton for export to China, and 500grams of the same class A drug hidden in the false bottom of a backpack being shipped to Italy.

Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Rivers state have arrested a 38-year-old notorious drug dealer, Ugo Gift Okonkwo, at Eagle Island Port Harcourt, following credible intelligence.

The suspect was nabbed with various quantities of cannabis, co***ne, methamphetamine, swinol, tramadol and codeine syrup at the time of his arrest on Sunday 26th July.

NDLEA officers on a stop and search operation at DMGS roundabout, Onitsha, Anambra state on Monday 27th July intercepted a truck marked XK 131 BDG loaded with 26,000 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 3,960kg while the truck driver Chinedu Nwanze, 40, was arrested.

While 331.84 kilograms of skunk were recovered from a Toyota Sienna bus with registration number KUJ 26 DV along Kwale/Ughelli expressway, Delta state on Sunday 26th July, NDLEA officers in Nasarawa state on Tuesday 28th July arrested a 64-year-old man Joseph Nwaeke with 68kg skunk and 29grams of methamphetamine at Asso Angwan Muazu, Karu area of the state.

In Zamfara, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Zaria- Gusau highway on Monday 27th July intercepted a suspect, Sani Umar, 27, conveying 7,400 pills of tramadol 225mg suspected to be supplies for criminal elements.

With the same vigour, Commands and formations of the Agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week.

These include: WADA enlightenment lecture to students and staff of Hausawa Special Primary School, Kano; Royal Crown School, Oluyole, Ibadan; Government Secondary School, Ibi, Taraba; and drivers at Challenge Bus Terminal Park, Ibadan, Oyo state, among others.

While commending the officers and men of DOGI, Rivers, Anambra, Delta, Nasarawa, and Zamfara Commands for the various successful operations, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) enjoined them and their colleagues across the country to continue with the ongoing balanced approach to the drug control efforts of the Agency.

The General Overseer, (G.O) Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has singled out African sports men and woman, especially Nigerians, for prayers to win laurels in their various sporting engagements.

He also prayed for every Estate Developer to be imbued with sufficient financial capacity to build houses that would provide enough affordable accommodation for Nigerians.

In addition, the G.O as often referred, also prayed for every tenant to be blessed and be financially empowered to acquire their own properties and become landlords and landladies in their various dwelling places.

In his monthly Thanksgiving Ministration at the Headquarters, RCCG, in Lagos on Sunday, 2nd August, 2026, on the topic: "Divine Champions," he likened our lives as a continuous wrestling for survival just like a boxer does while having a match.

Reading from the book of Matthew Chapter 24 vs 11-13, he explained that as a winner remains standing, so shall the children of God stand despite every tribulation.

Adeboye reiterated that a boxer that wants to remain standing and become a champion in his bout, he needs strength and wisdom coupled with the guidance of a good coach to conquer.

He added that the strength to become a champion, comes only from Jesus Christ hence everyone needs him to triumph. "By your strength shall no man prevails. Therefore, you need more than strength not to go tired."

He noted that when "the moment of truth" comes our way, the Almighty God will show us mercy.

Abeboye, who will be presiding over millions of congregants across the globe in the church's Annual Convention which begins on Monday, 3rd August, observed that strength without wisdom and strategy will lead to a lose in any contest or battle. Therefore, "When you are going into the battle of life, you must have God on your side."

While quoting from the book of Daniel 22 vs 22, he said it's only God that gives wisdom to the wise. As human beings therefore, we need a good coach full of wisdom, to guide us to victory and abhors being careless.

"A good coach may not be your good friend and not satisfied with what you are doing but will always need more from you. He inspires you. Therefore, the best coach you can ever have is Jesus Christ."

While warning children of God to be watchful but pray especially in the face of victory as enemies would always lock around, he added that a boxer doesn't always a see the punch that knocks him down. He called for restrategization to conquer the enemies.

According to him, champion is the one that laughs last. He isn't afraid of making a mistake. For you to continue to be a champion, you need a coach that would assist you to finish well and be a divine champion. You need strength which comes only from God. The best coach is Jesus Christ," he concluded.

OPS Wabaizigan Rescues 14 Kidnap Victims In EdoTroops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, under 2 Division, participating in Operation WABAIZIGAN, have successfully rescued 14 kidnapped victims following a swift response to a kidnap incident along the Lagos–Benin Expressway in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

The operation further demonstrates the Nigerian Army's unwavering commitment to protecting lives and denying criminal elements freedom of action within its area of responsibility.

The rescue operation was conducted about 9:30pm on 30th July, 2026 after troops on routine patrol received credible intelligence on the kidnap incident.

Acting swiftly and decisively, the troops immediately pursued the kidnappers along their withdrawal route, applying sustained pressure that forced the criminals to abandon 11 of the abducted victims and flee into the surrounding forest.

In a follow-up clearance operation conducted on 31 July 2026, the troops aggressively combed the forest and successfully rescued the remaining three victims, bringing the total number of rescued victims to 14.

Following preliminary debriefing and medical assessment, all the rescued victims were confirmed to be in stable condition and were subsequently reunited with their families or allowed to continue their respective journeys. Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.

The successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army's operational readiness, intelligence-driven approach, and unwavering resolve to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes in close collaboration with other security agencies.

Nigerian Navy Delivers A-60,000-Litre Water Project To Esie KingdomDetermined to touch lives and reach out to the rural dwellers with basic social amenities, the Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Special Intervention Quick Impact Project at Esie Kingdom, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The projects comprising an industrial solar-powered borehole, a 60,000-litre overhead tank and a water reticulation system was commissioned on Thursday, 30th July, 2026.

The intervention was executed in honour Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina (Retired), as a way of giving back to the hometown of his late wife, Princess Barrister Basirat Babalola Mohammed-Katsina and the people of Esie Kingdom in Irepodun Local Government Area.

In his remarks, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who was represented by the Director of Veteran Affairs, Rear Admiral Raheem Taofeeq, stated that the project is part of the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.

He noted that the initiative also supports the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and serves as a means through which the Nigerian Navy recognizes and honours its distinguished senior officers.

On his part, the Special Guest of Honour, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Yakub Agboola Ibrahim Babalola, Egunjobi II Elesie of Esie Kingdom, commended the Chief of the Naval Staff for executing the milestone project.

He described the intervention as a significant step toward addressing the portable water challenges facing the Esie community, adding that it would greatly enhance hygiene and sanitation standards among residents and families.

The project facilitator, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Mohammed-Katsina, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff for providing the platform for the intervention and the opportunity to contribute to the development of Esie Kingdom, the hometown of his late wife.

The historic commissioning ceremony brought together distinguished personalities, including the Chief of Staff, Kwara State Government, council of Chiefs and senior military officers.
