A Word of Advice to Our Youths
I have been thinking a lot about our young people and the kind of society we are building for the future. As I look around, I sometimes worry about the changes I see in the character and attitude of some of our youths. I believe we need to talk about these things with love, not condemnation, because our youths are our future.
These days, some young people seem to be losing values that used to be important to us—respect, honesty, patience, hard work, and kindness. Many want quick success and quick money, and sometimes that desire can push them into making choices they may later regret. Social media can also make young people feel that everyone else is living a better life, when in reality, what we see online is often only a small part of someone's story.
To our youths, I want to say this: please do not allow pressure from friends, society, or social media to determine the person you become. Take your time. Learn a skill. Work hard. Be willing to start small. Listen when good people correct you, respect your parents and elders, and be careful about the company you keep.
I am not saying young people should not dream big. Please dream big, but build your dreams on good character and honest work. Money and popularity may come and go, but good character will always speak for you.
My prayer and hope is that our youths will realize their worth, make better choices, and become people our families and society can be proud of. The future is in their hands, and the choices they make today will help shape the world we all live in
tomorrow.
