Sometimes, people don’t tell you they’re losing interest.

They simply stop checking on you.
Their replies become shorter.

The conversations that once lasted for hours suddenly feel forced.

You start noticing the distance, but you’re too afraid to ask why.

And the painful part?

You may keep blaming yourself, wondering what you did wrong.

But sometimes, you didn’t do anything wrong.

People change. Feelings change.

Episode 18: The Officer's Confession

I stared at my phone.

The police officer was calling again.

For a moment, I wanted to ignore it.

How could I trust the very officer whose photograph I had found among Dad's evidence?

But if he truly knew what happened to Dad, this might be my only chance.

“I'll meet you,” I finally said.

“Come alone,” he replied.

My heart sank.

I arrived at the agreed location just before sunset. The officer was already waiting inside his car.

He looked exhausted.

“I know you don't trust me,” he said.

“Why should I?”

He lowered his head.

“Because I made a terrible mistake.”

My eyes widened.

“What mistake?”

He took a deep breath.

“When your father's accident happened, I was ordered to close the investigation.”

“Ordered by who?”

He looked directly at me.

“Your father's former business partner.”

The same man who had given me the job.

I felt my blood run cold.

“But why would you obey him?”

The officer's voice broke.

“Because he threatened my family.”

Then he handed me a small envelope.

“Your father contacted me three days before the accident.

He told me he had evidence that could expose everything.”

I opened the envelope.

Inside was a photograph of my father standing beside a safe.

On the back, Dad had written:

“The truth is inside the place where we first built our dreams.”

I looked at the officer.

“Where is this place?”

He hesitated.

Then he whispered:

“Your childhood home.”

My heart stopped.

That house had been abandoned for years.

And suddenly, I understood why Dad had never allowed anyone to sell it.

There was something hidden inside.
