While there are different roles within a community, the source of life remains the same for everyone. It is not the act of partaking in a ceremony that saves a person, but the deep faith they carry in their heart every day. Whether someone has a heavenly hope or looks forward to life on a beautiful earth, the requirement is identical. We must all show that we truly believe in the power of the sacrifice made for us. This belief is not a one-time event, but a continuous way of living that connects us to a future without end. When we focus on this shared foundation, the distinctions between roles become less important than the common goal. Life is a result of that personal conviction. By keeping our eyes on the importance of that ransom, we ensure that we stay on the path toward the life that was always intended for us.

How long should your courtship last?

Proverbs 21:5 advises us not to be hasty in making decisions, especially life changing ones. So it is important to take enough time to truly get to know one another. At the same time, you should not prolong the courtship unnecessarily. Afterall the Bible also says: “Expectation postponed makes the heart sick.” (Prov. 13:12) What can others do while a couple is courting? We can look out for their interests by including them in our daily lives. Inviting them over for a meal, family worship, or a fun activity helps them see how they interact with different people in different settings. Do they need a chaperone, help with transportation, or a place where they can talk privately? If so, could we offer to help? (Gal. 6:10) If you are asked to help in this way, see it as a special way to show kindness.
