Nigerians Gullibility Mindset And Suffering From Collective Chronic Amnesia : Osun State Governorship Election In Retrospect

No doubt, the much talked about Governorship election in Osun State has come and gone and a winner emerged. This has taken the front pages of Newspapers and also topic of discussion amongst public opinion analysts. To this end, emergence of Governor Ademola Adeleke was rough and tough for both the winner and looser.

As Nigerians are yet to heal from the controversies these have caused, the Governor thanked the President for making his re-election a success, followed by Davido's outburst with the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo over his comment on the dancing Governor. There came, many open ends that highlighted the high and low points of democratic governance and it's practice in Nigeria.

However, there seem to be a disconnect following the actions of Davido and his Uncle, the Governor. Those who applauded their actions are turning around to fire them for extending their happiness to the APC.

These shows some Nigerians gullibility mindset and also suffering from collective chronic amnesia because, the same Davido that was applauded for firing the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, is seen hob mobbing with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and also his uncle, presenting his Certificate of return to President Bola Tinubu and openly supporting and endorsing him for his re-election come 2027.

From the foregoing, it's time for Nigerians to understand real politicking and politics for them not to pick up unnecessary enemies along the way. Many sees this as a betrayal of trust of the Osun people and others sees it as a step to guarding his mandate as the Governor. This further shows that everything lies with interests and not the belief of others. With Nigerians thrown inside the middle of the fight of the two gladiators, what would they say to Davido, who many saw as a hero for democracy on that day, what about the people who stood by them on the day of election, what about the likes of Sen. Fadahunsi and others who threatened to kill and maim Osun people and also those killed in the build up to that election. All these, summed up in one, brings out the diverse nature of humans, but in specifics, Nigerians should be discerning enough to understand, fights by politicians is just a play as they have a meeting point which the common men are not allowed to step.

Most Nigerians dragged Governor Okpebholo who referred to Governor Adeleke as the dancing Governor. It went viral and taltums thrown to Okpebholo. The question is, when the governor's are in their meetings, do we join them, will Davido be there, when Governors Okpebholo and Adeleke meet in the meetings, are we going to be there when they hug and still banter themselves for the fun of it. Yet, the people took sides without knowing when to draw the lines for play and real fight.

After the huffing and puffing from Davido, we now see how he has reneged on his threat not to align with the APC, but he has turned around. This got to show the caste and class system that operates in Nigeria, where those at the top use those below to settle their differences and polarize the people the more.

Painful as this might be to some Nigerians, strong lessons are to be learned from the political saga in Osun State as there is room for alignment and realignment. And you now ask what the fate of the Accord party members in the state would be. They would suddenly support their Governor and move on. Which is why Nigeria politics is never taken serious, with too many leaders leading the helpless ones to achieve their aims, while the down trodden are meant to suffer the sins of their leaders.

In the political fight that claimed people's lives in Osun State, which major actor's son or relative was affected, yet, scores of persons were, gunned down and the show continues without the dead ones. From this stand point, what has the people gained, what is their belief and trust in a system that betrays their political choice. These and many more uncertainties is the politicians stock in trade, by using and dumping the people at their own will.

The big issue here is that, Nigerians don't ask questions and when they do, a lot of sentiments are thrown into the thought process, which gives room for doubt and distrust. As it is, can Governor Adeleke and Davido be trusted with Osun State affairs, will there be a sellout in the coming days and also, a possible decamp from the Accord party to the APC.

Nigerians should definitely learn from the political trajectory in Osun State and chat a way forward from all that transpired. Hence, the politicians will keep taking the people for a ride.

Nigeria Police And The Toga Of "License To Kill". Who Is Policing The Police?

The unwarranted killing of innocent Nigerians by the men of the Nigeria Police makes it an aberration to see those asked to protect the citizens, now pull the trigger to bring them down at the slightest provocation. This absurdity have so far questioned the rationale and capability of the force in it's modules operandi in line with it's mantra, "The Police Is Your Friend."

However, the continuous act of cutting short innocent lives with little or no strong action on the culprits speaks volumes and questions professionalism and their breach to protecting lives and properties. From the high ways to streets and most quite areas, casualties have been recorded with regards to the killing of innocent defenceless Nigerians for no just reason and instant noises will be made and culprits asked to sin no more.

Let's not forget the Apo extrajudicial killing in Abuja, Christmas day killing of Omobolanle Raheem by the police in 2022 by ASP Drambi Vandi, a police officer attached to the Ajiwe police station and in April, 2026, 28 year old Mene Ogidi was killed by the police in Effurun, Delta State. And you wonder where the checks and balances are, in the force. Where lies discipline, command and control and above all, professionalism, which is the hall mark of effective policing.

A critical look at this assumed higher and bigger than the powers that be, that makes them put on the toga of "License To Kill", points to the rot, and the faulty recruitment that exists in the police, where values and good characters are traded for whom you know, rather than competence. Painful, as lives are being lost and the body language of the prosecuting officers is go and sin no more, the issue of accidental discharge and intentional killing will always put up it's head and Nigerians gloss over it after a few complaints.

Let's not forget in America how George Floyd, died in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on May 25, 2020, after an officer pressed his knee onto his neck for over nine minutes. The reaction of the citizens, the American government and the world, shows how resolute the United States are, with human rights, sanctity of human and accountable justice system. Here, in Nigeria, the police defends the defenceless citizens. You hear them say, "I will shoot you añd nothing go happen. Could it be that, the police men are not psychologically prepared to relate with people?

Imagine an officer of the law, threatening to kill his fellow country man and the society is quiet about it. From all indication, this has to show how faulty the selection and employment of citizens into the police force, is. The recruitment of bad eggs due to connection without characters, makes it an integrity issue that is supposed to worry the government of Nigeria. Instead, when dn unjust killing happens, the right punishment is not metted to the offender, instead he will be taken out of seclusion with a mere punishment.

Painful as this could be, the non challant attitude of these men on black is a deep reflection of how the police has not been able to purge itself of what is termed to be criminal, while they sell their trade to the outside world in bad light. Beyond being criminal minded, the police force is also complicit of many negative vices that questions their preparedness to maintain peace, order and maintain internal security.

Their regular trademark of tears, blood and sorrow brought to defenceless citizens has taken the people far from them, which is why the public has lost trust in them and their affairs. As a first point of securing the people, the police don't put them first, all what they are after is their personal gains as if they don't draw salary from the federal government

In the whole of these failures, every Inspector General of Police, comes with a standard to checkmate the activities of the men and women of the force, they end up leaving deeper problems than they met, without really ensuring discipline and professionalism.

Now that Nigeria doesn't have a police to secure the people, but kill them at will, it's mission, vision and core values be re-established for the people to know, with a specified rules of engagement as it's practiced in saner climes. Many have gone to the great beyond as a result of the actions and bad behaviors of these policemen due to deliberate acts and attitude without any recourse to the after effects of the action.

From the Lagos - Shagam - Ore - Benin expressway, you see merchants of deaths dawning the police uniforms on the road, with threats to drivers because of a token and that tells the level of unrefined minds in the force who are entrusted with handling weapons. As the government seems helpless in dealing with the real issues and causes of extrajudicial killings, the Nigeria Human Rights Commission should take it upon themselves to sanction and deal decisively with erringbofficersvthst have chosen to kill Nigerians at will at the slightest provocation.

These killings and other related issues led to the uprising against the police in 2020, known as End Sars. Yet, the police never learned and unlearned their bad behaviors the people are speaking against.

The question is, when will the police ever be the friend of the people. Only time would tell.

Misgivings Of The 2027 Presidential Election And The Many Lies Of The Special Characters: When Will Nigerians Learn?

It is not a surprise that 2027 came too soon for Nigerians as the political space is awashed with all manner of speculations, discussions and permutations. In all, what has formed the basis of this public discourse is the level at which, Nigerians have suddenly lost touch with history, with her "tormentors" trying to find their ways to power come 2027. These political misgivings is one of the biggest problems plaguing Nigeria, with little or no attention is paid to the knotty issues relating to governance in Nigeria, while the leaders are busy toying with the emotions of the people.

Still grappling with a whole lot of political setbacks, more lies are being told Nigerians and the people tend not to ask the right questions pertaining to always going back to history to bring our memories to rule our present, which is the major concerns that is supposed to be our priority as regards who rules Nigeria in 2027. In all, what has suddenly happened to our present that we don't want to associate with. Why go back to resurrect dead woods just to make a political statement, as pronouncements that can't hold waters are made, just to score cheap political points.

From claiming to fight corruption to a one term of four years renting the air, as if Nigerians have not heard this before. What happened to their past deeds, which is part of what the country is struggling with today. What happened to the bad policies they helped to mid-wifed, do they want to add to the growing problems of Nigerians where political misfits, bad political actions, behaviors and deeds are not punished. Yet, the politicians are building castles in the air, without any recourse to shame.

Rather than coming out in full force forming alliances and blocs, only to take over from the ruling government which is also not different from those on the sidelines, it would have been better to advocate for a reformed electoral and judicial system that would put the country on a good stead to steer and deliver a better electoral system in 2027. Instead, all of them want to have a bite of the pie which they had taken from in the past. You now ask where the hope for a better Nigeria lies, if those who had in the past neglected the commoners and it's now they want to put right their wrongs. Sorry, as this might be, their efforts to coerce Nigerians to believe in their ill-fated struggle to liberate Nigeria from the ruling government is just like same of the same. What do they want to tell us that we don't know, yet they claimed to be more Nigerians than we do, while everything about them is anti Nigeria.

This shouldn't be a time to listen to rhetorics from the so called politicians in Nigeria, but to ask more questions that bothers on our collective development, security, economic transformation and general well being of all. But, what is being sold to the people is a dummy of good guys coming to clean up the mess of the present government, instead, they are also thinking of how to deep their hands in the çookie jar, while the people hail them for their actions.

Funny as it is, those who were part of previous failed administrations in Nigerians are now pontificating on the way forward and even telling Nigerians how they will stop the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway. This divisive statement alone, is enough to send shocking signals to Nigerians that there is no end in sight for bad governance, political revenge and the hardships in Nigeria, as the struggle continues.

From within and without, the collective struggle to perpetually knock Nigerians down, is so formal and rife that these actors are united in whipping the people into line of concurrence either good or bad, with a mindset of stifling Nigerians to a corner where everything and anything thrown at them will be seen as okay. As evident in present day Nigeria, the people have resigned to faith, to taking anything thrown at them from increase in electricity tariff and fuel pump price. The resultant effects is what has thrown Nigeria into a state of frenzy that has counterbalanced both the purchasing power and cost of living of Nigerians.

These are critical issues that would have formed the opinions of what the outlook of 2027 political outcome will be like, but as critical of Nigerians, they have started pitching tents with those who made life difficult yesterday and today without accounting for their time in office, but want the people's votes once more. As audacious as these, when are Nigerians going to sincerely speak truth to power without any underlying political Motives, when will the people hold the leaders accountable, when will the youths form a coalition party devoid of sentiments and mudslinging.

You now ask when Nigerians will understand that politicians are only driving a narrative that suits their intentions without putting into consideration, the outcome of their actions. These makes it difficult for the people to stand as one, makig it easier for them to be divided and polarized. All these summed up in one, shows how it is convenient for those at the top to come together and take decisive actions for and against the people. All these have formed public opinion once again, which Nigerians have started taking sides as to whom to support and not to. Thereby making it difficult to have the best man to superintend over the country.

As it is, the defining moments are yet to come, but the question is, when will Nigerians learn from the past.
