Onyekachi Ogumjiofor showed Heman Afaramai who the boss was after defeating the Police College Tennis Club youngster at the Boys’ U-16 final of the just concluded Funke Aiyenugba Junior Tennis Competition in Lagos.

Ibadan-born Ogumjiofor won 5-3, 5-3 under the floodlights inside the Police College Tennis Club, Ikeja-Lagos, on Saturday, 12 September, 2026.

Congratulations to the winner and the finalist, and a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to the organizers of this event for putting this together.

Heman Afaramai fires his way into the Boys’ U-16 final at the ongoing Funke Aiyenugba Junior Tennis Tournament holding inside the Police College Tennis Club, Ikeja-Lagos.

Afaramai defeated Kareem Goloba 5-4(6), 5-4(5) to set up a very intense finale against Onyekachi Ogumjiofor.

GOODNEWS AINA REIGNS SUPREME IN GHANA!

The Ekiti-born teenager has won the J30 Accra Girls Singles and Doubles titles for the first time ever after home girl Gwendolyn Duvor Klu retired in the second set.

Aina won the first set 7-5 and was 15-0 up on the second before Klu made the decision to retire. This also impacted the Doubles final as Klu was unable to compete in the Girls’ Doubles final, thereby handing the Nigerian youngster her first Junior World Tennis title!

Over 40 boys were in attendance at the inaugural edition of the Funke Aiyenugba Junior Tennis Tournament holding inside the Police College Tennis Club, Ikeja.

The Boys only event which ends on Saturday, 12 September, has just two categories, 14 & 16, and players in attendance are mostly from Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

Some of the best U-14 & U-16 boys in Nigeria are in attendance at this event - in the third consecutive week of tennis competitions for youngsters.

If you’re a bit free today and are anywhere close to the Police College, Ikeja, today’s matches are expected to serve off by 10am - BE THERE 🫵🏽

AINA WITH THE GOODNEWS FROM GHANA 🫡

Nigeria’s Goodnews Aina has reached the final of the ongoing J30 Accra World Tennis Tour Juniors event in Ghana.

This is only the second time she has reached the final of a J30 event having previously achieved the same feat in Abuja, early this year.

The Ekiti-born southpaw player defeated Winner Gakpo from Togo in a final set thriller which ended 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to advance in Ghana.

We’re rooting for you to win the title in Accra, Goodnews. Let’s do this 💪🏽💪🏽

Organizers Cancel Week 2 Of Lagos Open World Tennis Tour Event

Checks have revealed that the second leg of the much anticipated Lagos Open World Tennis Tour event has been cancelled.

The World Tennis rated event, initially billed to hold across two legs - from 26-31 October and 2-7 November, 2026 - now has the second leg showing as ‘canceled’ on the official website for the event.

As at the time of this report, the first leg of the tournament still remained open on the world tennis website, however, there are worries that the week one of the competition may also be canceled.

No reason has been given yet for the cancelation, but feelers have it that funding may have been a major factor leading to the cancellation of the event which is now expected to hold in the first quarter of 2027 all other things being equal.

What a run Seun shrk had at the US Open Junior Tennis Championships this year. From Roland Garros to Wimbledon to the United States, you were immense!

The journey has only just begun, because we’ve seen what you can achieve if you get the desired support and love- which we have in abundance.
