COLOURS OF FIRE 🔥

To talk about Nigerian movies can be hard sometimes because before you say jack, someone somewhere will say, “Do you know how much they spent on the movie? Let’s appreciate the effort,” this and that.

Okay, no problem. The effort put into making this movie is very much appreciated, and as a theatre student, I actually enjoyed the plot, the setting, characters, the costumes, my Lord, very beautiful, the visuals, very, very sharp and colorful.

That scene where they were singing “Láyé Olúgbón” is one of my favorites because it was just so nostalgic for me. There’s no theatre student who doesn’t know that song 😂 It’s the most used song in theatre.

The dialogue generally was giving stage play. I don’t know who directed the movie, but I’m guessing the person is a thespian.

Now, with all of these being said, the first scene that turned me off is the scene where EFUAETAN unalives those white men who came to ask for the dye formula. That thing just didn’t look right to me. And then the flashback scene where EFUAETAN was talking about how she found the red dye, was that AI thing really necessary? Me, I don’t think so. Let’s not even talk about the beast.

The scene that stands out to me the most is definitely the scene where AKINBODE tries to kill MOREMI. That scene was just so beautiful and colorful, and the way MOREMI’s hair is styled, her body movement, her costume, the movement synchronization between MOREMI and AKINBODE, I love it so much.

I’ll rate the movie a 6/10
