THE REJECTED STONE~ Episode 1
SCENE 1 – HOSPITAL CORRIDOR
The hospital corridor is tense and quiet. Nurses walk quickly from one room to another. Inside the labor room, the woman screams in pain.
DAMI:
Ahhh! Please help me! I can’t do this anymore
Outside the room, Patrick paces nervously. His mother, Mama Patrick, sits confidently on a bench as if nothing serious is happening.A doctor walks out of the labor room looking worried.
DOCTOR:
Mr. Patrick?
PATRICK:
Yes doctor, how is my wife?
DOCTOR:
Your wife is very weak. The baby is not coming out naturally. We need to perform a C-section immediately. Patrick looks confused.
PATRICK:
C-section?
DOCTOR:
Yes. It is the safest option right now. If we delay, both mother and child could be in danger.
Patrick becomes uncomfortable. He looks at his mother.
PATRICK:
Doctor, I need to discuss with my mother first.
The doctor looks surprised.
DOCTOR:
Sir, this is an emergency. Time is very important.
Mama Patrick slowly stands up.
MAMA PATRICK:
Doctor, what exactly are you saying?
DOCTOR:
Madam, your daughter-in-law cannot deliver this baby naturally. We need to take her to the theatre.
Mama Patrick folds her arms.
MAMA PATRICK:
Theatre? For what?
DOCTOR:
For surgery.
Mama Patrick laughs loudly.
MAMA PATRICK:
Surgery? In my family?
The doctor stays calm.
DOCTOR:
Madam, this is about saving lives.
Mama Patrick shakes her head.
MAMA PATRICK
Doctor, I gave birth to ten children. Ten! Not once did they cut my stomach. She points proudly to herself.
MAMA PATRICK :
No woman in my family has ever given birth through surgery.
Patrick nods slowly, supporting his mother.
The doctor sighs.
SCENE 2 – LABOUR ROOM
Dami lies on the bed sweating heavily.A nurse wipes her face.
DAMI:
Please… I am in pain
The nurse looks worried.
NURSE:
Stay strong, madam. The doctor is trying to help. Dami cries softly.
DAMI:
Please tell my husband to agree to the surgery.
SCENE 3 – HOSPITAL CORRIDOR
The doctor speaks firmly now.
DOCTOR
Madam, every pregnancy is different. Your daughter-in-law’s body cannot push this baby out safely.
Mama Patrick becomes angry.
MAMA PATRICK
So you are saying my son married a weak woman?
DOCTOR
That is not what I said.
MAMA PATRICK
My daughters gave birth naturally. My sisters gave birth naturally. My mother gave birth naturally.
She looks at Patrick.
MAMA PATRICK (CONT’D)
Our women are strong. She turns back to the doctor.
MAMA PATRICK
My daughter-in-law will push that baby herself.
The doctor looks frustrated.
DOCTOR
Madam, this is not about pride. This is about life.
But Mama Patrick refuses to listen.
SCENE 4 – LABOUR ROOM
Dami screams again.
DAMI
Ahhh! Please!
The nurses rush around her.
NURSE
Her blood pressure is dropping!
SCENE 5 – HOSPITAL CORRIDOR
The doctor rushes out again.
DOCTOR
Mr. Patrick, we cannot wait anymore.
He hands over a consent form.
DOCTOR
Sign this so we can take her to surgery immediately.
Patrick hesitates. He looks at his mother again. Mama Patrick shakes her head strongly.
MAMA PATRICK
No.
Patrick slowly lowers the pen.
The doctor cannot believe it.
DOCTOR
Sir… your wife could die. Mama Patrick responds sharply.
MAMA PATRICK:
Nothing will happen. Women give birth every day.
The doctor rubs his forehead in frustration.
SCENE 6 – LABOUR ROOM
Dami is breathing heavily now.
DAMI: (weakly)
My baby…
SCENE 7 – CORRIDOR
Suddenly a nurse runs out.
NURSE
Doctor!
Everyone turns.
NURSE (CONT’D)
She has collapsed!
The doctor immediately runs inside.
Patrick stands frozen.
Mama Patrick still looks stubborn.
SCENE 8 – LABOR ROOM
The doctor quickly checks Dami.
DOCTOR:
Her body is shutting down.
He turns to the nurses.
DOCTOR (CONT’D)
Prepare the theatre now!
The doctor rushes back into the corridor.
He looks directly at Patrick.
DOCTOR:
If we delay any longer… We may lose both the mother and the baby.
Patrick freezes.
DOCTOR:
Please sign it
Mama Patrick stares back stubbornly.
“I don’t care, you see that child she will deliver it herself “
