Trump says the war with Iran is “almost complete.” But is it really over?

In a phone interview with CBS News, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran is nearly finished.

According to him, the U.S. military has already struck more than 3,000 Iranian targets in the first week of operations, leaving much of Iran’s military capability severely weakened.

Trump said Iran has “no navy, no communications, and no air force left.”

But the situation remains tense.

Here are five key developments from the war so far:

1️⃣ Thousands of Iranian targets hit

The U.S. military reportedly launched strikes on over 3,000 targets, significantly damaging Iran’s military infrastructure.

2️⃣ New leadership in Iran

Iran announced that Mojtaba Khamenei has replaced his father as the country’s supreme leader.

3️⃣ Major global oil route disrupted

Commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz — through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes — has nearly stopped.

4️⃣ Oil prices reacted quickly

Global oil prices dropped sharply after the interview before stabilising later in the day.

5️⃣ U.S. casualties confirmed

At least seven American service members have died during the conflict.

Despite saying the war is “almost complete,” Trump warned that if Iran interferes with shipping routes, the consequences could be severe.

He also said the U.S. is considering taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could dramatically impact global trade and energy markets.

For now, the world is watching closely as tensions in the Middle East continue to unfold.

Why was another Nigerian military base overrun? Here are six reasons being reported.

Fighters linked to Boko Haram have reportedly attacked a military base in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a commanding officer and other soldiers.

According to Daily Trust, sources revealed several factors behind how the insurgents were able to overrun the base.

1️⃣ Surprise midnight attack

The insurgents reportedly launched the assault around 12:30 a.m., catching troops off guard.

2️⃣ Attack from multiple directions

Sources reported that the fighters stormed the town from several directions, making it difficult for troops to respond quickly.

3️⃣ Troops reportedly overwhelmed

Security sources said the attackers dislodged soldiers from the base during the raid.

4️⃣ Military vehicles destroyed

The insurgents allegedly set several military vehicles ablaze during the attack.

5️⃣ Weapons and ammunition taken

Sources said the attackers carted away ammunition and other equipment from the base.

6️⃣ Rising attacks in the region

The incident follows another recent attack in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA, where terrorists targeted a military base and an internally displaced persons camp.

Nigeria has battled the insurgency of Boko Haram for more than a decade, particularly in northeastern states.

💬 What do you think Nigeria should do differently to end this insurgency?
