The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a nationwide protest tagged “Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu” to demand the release of the detained IPOB leader.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to embark on a nationwide protest to demand the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

According to the student body, the peaceful demonstration — tagged “Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu” — is scheduled for Monday, October 20, 2025, with students from all six geopolitical zones expected to converge on Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

In a statement signed by the NANS National President, Comrade Atiku Isah, and dated October 13, 2025, the association said the decision followed resolutions reached during its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

“Following the resolution reached at the recent executive meeting of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the leadership hereby calls on all Nigerian students to participate in the ‘Free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’ nationwide protest,” the statement read.

The protest, NANS explained, is aimed at demanding justice, civil rights, and democratic accountability in Nigeria, particularly in light of multiple court rulings declaring Kanu’s continued detention unlawful.

To ensure smooth coordination, NANS said students from all regions will assemble in their respective zonal centres before moving to Abuja.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB🐉) wishes to clarify its position regarding the upcoming nationwide protest tagged (“Free Nnamdi Kanu”), scheduled for October 20, 2025, by various human rights activists, civil liberty groups, and concerned Nigerians 🇳🇬 .

We understand the deep pain and frustration among our people and other freedom-loving citizens across the world over the continued illegal detention of our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. IPOB is not the organizer of the said protest & will not join issues with concerned Nigerians who want to exercise their right to Peaceful Protest 🪧,

Those who choose to demonstrate are exercising their legitimate and constitutional right to peaceful assembly and expression, and we respect that right, Hence We cannot Stop them.

IPOB will be Monitoring this Protest 🪧 but will not get Involved,

We use this opportunity to once again call on the Nigerian 🇳🇬 Government to immediately and unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, as ordered by competent Courts of law.

His continued detention remains an act of oppression, a gross abuse of human rights, and a violation of the Nigerian Constitution itself.

The world is watching. No nation can claim to uphold justice ⚖️ while ignoring its own judicial pronouncements.

The Nigerian 🇳🇬 Government must do the right thing end this illegality and set Mazi Nnamdi Kanu free.

We are equally concerned about his health condition, which has worsened under DSS custody. IPOB demands that he be allowed access to proper medical care in a fully equipped 🏥 of his choice & foreign medical care, where he can receive the urgent attention his health requires.
