From YouTube to the World
Before the lights, cameras, and awards—Asurf Oluseyi was just a young man in Ipaja, Lagos, teaching himself filmmaking through late-night YouTube tutorials.
No film school. No big mentor. Just pure grit, curiosity, and an unshakable belief in what was possible.
Today, he’s the award-winning director behind Hakkunde, Kasanova, and the upcoming pan-African thriller 3 Cold Dishes. He’s worked with top artists, shot music videos, documentaries, and built Asurf Films from scratch, serving clients across Nigeria, the UK, and the US.
His journey reminds us that passion and perseverance can open doors that credentials alone cannot.

Sometimes, life has a way of humbling you—not through loud, dramatic moments, but in subtle ways, pack your bags and start over” kind of way. Occasionally, it takes getting lost to truly find yourself and that’s what happened in the case of Akande.

Akande didn’t leave Lagos to chase a dream; he left because life offered him no choice. He faced unemployment and financial struggles, burdened by pressure and pride, with only a one-way ticket out of Lagos.

However, what he discovered up north will truly inspire you.

“Hakkunde” isn’t merely a film; it serves as a reminder that even when your life takes an unexpected turn, purpose can still find you. You might think you’ve seen everything the film has to offer, but I encourage you to watch it again—there is definitely something you missed.
