A quiet spot near Udi woods held a hidden pit, masked by old leaves. Days passed with the Rabbit camped nearby, eyes sharp. When footsteps neared, his voice rose - caution spilling out before bodies appeared. The trail belonged to the Elephant, heavy and sure. Warning after warning slipped from him, offered one at a time. Travelers heard. They slowed. He stayed.
The moment the Elephant drew near, a shout from the Rabbit stopped him just before he would have fallen.
Up went the Rabbit, hoisted by the Elephant's trunk.
“You have saved my life,” he declared.
Seasons passed while their friendship held steady, growing quiet like frost on morning grass.
After that, the rains stopped for twelve months straight.
When meals grew thin, the Elephant moved alongside powerful beasts guarding what little water stayed. Water holes shrank under heat, so the big creature stood near those who held power through strength. Hunger pushed change. The herd giant found space beside dominant ones, where survival bent toward force. With less to eat, alliances shifted - nearby, the massive animal aligned with muscle-bound rulers of wet spots left behind.
Bursting into the yard with a dry throat, the Rabbit met stone-faced blockers at the gate. They stood firm, arms crossed, denying access without a word.
“Tell them who I am,” the Rabbit pleaded.
Turning its head, the Elephant stared off into distance.
“These rules are for everyone,” he said.
A lone rabbit stepped into the dusty ground. Dust rose around its feet as it moved forward slowly.
It was then he saw how certain bonds weather storms yet crumble under authority.
What you do when power shifts shows who you really are. Promises mean little. It is decisions that tell the truth. When control slips, actions speak louder than words ever could.
