Our Girls Are Being Trafficked — Ebonyi Must Wake Up

This growing act of deceiving young girls in Ebonyi State, taking them to other states and even outside Nigeria for prostitution and other exploitative activities, must stop. Those involved must be identified, arrested and made to face the full weight of the law.

Yesterday, Ezza TV shared the disturbing story of our sister from Ikwo who was reportedly deceived when she was only 14 years old and transported from Ebonyi State to Ghana for prostitution. She refused to cooperate with those exploiting her and eventually escaped. She later ended up with a Ghanaian man, became pregnant and gave birth. According to the account, she was subsequently locked inside a room until a Nigerian brother in Ghana intervened, rescued her and helped bring her back to Nigeria.

Let that sink in: this is a child.

And just today, another disturbing incident reportedly occurred involving another underage girl who was allegedly deceived and being transported to Lagos, apparently with plans to move her to Ghana. Thankfully, they were caught, and the man accused of deceiving her has been arrested.

How many more girls must be deceived before we take this seriously?

This is not just a family problem. It is a serious community and government concern. Our young girls are vulnerable to people who promise them jobs, opportunities and better lives, only to move them far away from home and exploit them.

Parents must become more vigilant. Communities must speak up. Traditional and religious leaders must stop treating these cases as private family matters. And the government must strengthen efforts to identify, investigate and prosecute people involved in trafficking and exploitation.

Our daughters are not commodities. Our children are not business opportunities.

If someone deceives a child, transports her and intends to exploit her, that person should face the law.

Ebonyi must wake up before this becomes even more widespread. Protecting our younger generation is everybody’s responsibility.

This mentality is exactly why the dream of Biafra keeps slipping further away. How do we expect to build a new nation when some people believe that bullying, insulting or looking down on the Yoruba, Hausa-Fulani and other ethnic groups will somehow give us freedom?

You cannot bully your way into self-determination. If the Biafra dream is truly about freedom, dignity and a better future, then it must be built on strategy, peaceful engagement, respect and unity not hatred or ethnic superiority.

Until we change this mentality, we may keep talking about Biafra while moving further away from the very dream we claim to desire.

EVEN THE OBIDIENTS ARE WAKING UP

OBIDIENT MOVEMENT BACKS TINUBU FOR SECOND TERM!

This is becoming an interesting political reality. According to the report by ABS News, Southeast leaders of the Obidient Movement, including Ikenna Azomchine, are now calling on Ndigbo to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in the 2027 presidential election.

After three years in the opposition, they say they have come to the conclusion that the platform is not strong enough to secure the presidency for the Southeast and that Ndigbo must strategically position themselves within mainstream Nigerian politics.

The irony is striking: some of those who once campaigned passionately for Peter Obi are now using the same Obidient platform to campaign against his presidential ambition.

Peter Obi was presented to many as the political “messiah” who would rescue Nigeria. But today, even people who once stood firmly behind him are beginning to reassess their position.

Indeed, the political awakening has begun.

Politics is not about permanent emotions or blind loyalty. It is about strategy, reality and what can deliver results.

If even former Obidient voices are now saying “support Tinubu for 2027,” perhaps it is time for everyone to look beyond sentiment and ask one simple question:

What political strategy gives the Southeast the strongest chance of producing an Igbo President in the future?

THINK BEYOND POLITICAL LOYALTY

The kind of statement in this screenshot should make us pause and ask ourselves: are we thinking critically, or are we simply following political emotions and promises?

Blind loyalty and false hopes can prevent people from questioning the realities around them. No politician is bigger than Nigeria, and no political ambition should become a reason to threaten the peace or unity of the country.

As 2027 approaches, Nigerians should demand facts, policies, competence and accountability—not slogans, predictions or emotional declarations.

We need to grow beyond the mentality that if one particular politician does not win, Nigeria will somehow collapse. Governments and politicians come and go, but the country remains.

Nobody is bigger than Nigeria. We must learn to think for ourselves, disagree peacefully, and put the future of the country above blind political loyalty.

WHEN WILL THE NIGERIA POLICE START PROTECTING THE PEOPLE?

Tension has reportedly erupted around Ogbogwu Junction leading to Onitsha Head Bridge, Anambra State, following allegations that a police officer shot a young man who was said to be on his way to deliver a waybill package.

The alleged incident has understandably triggered outrage, with traders and residents reportedly taking to the streets and traffic grinding to a standstill as people demand justice.

But this raises a painful question: when will the Nigeria Police Force begin doing its job professionally instead of becoming a source of fear for the very citizens they are supposed to protect?

A police officer is entrusted with the power to protect lives, maintain order and enforce the law—not to treat every encounter with civilians as an opportunity to use deadly force.

If this allegation is true, the officer involved must be properly investigated and held accountable. And if it is not true, the police should come out immediately with the facts and clear the air.

Nigerians deserve a police force that protects them, respects their lives and follows due process.

We cannot continue normalising the killing of citizens and calling it policing. Enough is enough.

It’s another day to remind Ndi Igbo of a reality we must be willing to confront ahead of 2027: 2027 is not the turn of Ndigbo.

We must stop allowing emotions and political calculations to deceive us into believing that every election cycle must automatically be about producing an Igbo president. Politics is about timing, strategy, structure, competence and the ability to build the necessary national coalition.

When the time eventually comes for Ndigbo to seriously pursue the presidency, I strongly believe there is no other Igbo politician alive today who is more prepared and capable of competing at the highest national level than Senator Engineer David Nweze Umahi, CON, the Honourable Minister for Works.

Umahi has demonstrated political experience, administrative capacity, national connections and the ability to operate beyond the narrow boundaries of regional politics. For me, that is what makes him stand out.

The Lion of the East. The Iron Gate. The Akubaraoha Ndigbo.

When our time comes, Ndi Igbo must look beyond sentiment and ask one simple question: Who has the capacity, structure, experience and national acceptance to actually compete and win?

For me, that answer is David Nweze Umahi.

Ndi Ebonyi, what kind of society are we building when belonging to a different political party is beginning to look like a crime?

Politics should never be a death sentence. Democracy means people have the freedom to support different candidates, belong to different political parties, express different opinions and still live together as brothers and sisters.

If a citizen cannot openly support an opposition candidate without fear of intimidation, threats or consequences, then we need to ask ourselves a very serious question: what exactly are we turning our society into?

Today, it may be someone supporting APGA. Tomorrow, it could be someone supporting PDP, Labour, APC or another party. Political parties are temporary, but the people of Ebonyi remain neighbours, brothers, sisters and members of the same society.

We cannot continue to sacrifice our humanity, freedom and peace on the altar of politics.

Ndi Ebonyi, let us wake up. Political disagreement should never become a death sentence.

What type of society are we building for ourselves and for the generation coming behind us?

I THANK GOVERNOR NWIFURU FOR LISTENING — SENATOR UMAHI

“I thank Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for inspecting the roads and making sacrifices as I requested, and I also thank the Ezza people for showing gratitude. A lot of other things will be done for them.” — Senator David Umahi

In case you’re still wondering why my love and respect for this man keep increasing daily, this is part of the reason.

Ndi-Ebonyi, while some of you are busy dancing around the Anambra man in the mushroom party, I hope you can also pause and recognize the good works of our own David Umahi.

You attacked him daily just to please Ndi-Anambra, but today, his contributions to Ndi-Ebonyi and Nigeria at large speak for themselves.

It is high time we started appreciating and supporting our own when they are doing well. Politics should not make us blind to genuine contributions.

Senator David Umahi is doing absolutely well. Let’s support him with all we have. He is our own, and his success is also our success.
