JUST IN: Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has said petrol costs more than ₦3,000 per litre after conversion in the United Kingdom, arguing that Nigerians are “doing very well” with the current price of petrol in Nigeria.
Speaking Thursday at the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State, Okpebholo said he visited London the previous week and compared petrol prices there with those in Nigeria.
“After conversion, it’s about ₦3,000-something for one litre of fuel,” he said.
Okpebholo said the comparison showed that Nigerians were buying petrol at a lower price, adding that President Bola Tinubu is stabilising the economy.
He acknowledged that the Federal Government’s ongoing economic reforms are difficult but said they would eventually produce results. He compared the reforms to an aircraft taking off, saying passengers are not served food until the plane reaches cruising altitude.
The governor also praised ongoing infrastructure projects and supported the Federal Government’s emergency intervention on the deteriorating Benin-Asaba Road, where emergency rehabilitation has now commenced.
Okpebholo also expressed support for Tinubu continuing as president in 2027, saying:
“Is Aso Rock vacant? Is Aso Rock vacant? So Aso Rock is not vacant.”
He added that he agreed with the Oba of Benin’s reported position that “you don’t change a working President.”
His comments come amid continued public concerns over petrol prices and the broader impact of economic reforms on living costs.
