Tinubu Directs EFCC to Seek Reversal of Osun Account Freeze Ahead of Governorship Election

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to return to court and seek the reversal of the order freezing the accounts of the Osun State Government.

In a statement issued from the State House, the President expressed concern over the timing of the action, noting that although the EFCC operates independently, decisions taken by federal institutions are often viewed by the public as reflecting the position of the Federal Government.

Tinubu reiterated his commitment to the independence of anti-corruption agencies, emphasizing that they should continue to discharge their constitutional responsibilities professionally and without political interference.
The President, however, observed that with the Osun State governorship election approaching, the development could generate public concern and raise questions about the neutrality of the electoral environment.

He stated that while he had yet to receive a full briefing on the circumstances surrounding the court order, safeguarding public confidence in the democratic process made it necessary to address the situation.

Consequently, Tinubu directed the EFCC to take immediate steps to seek the vacation of the order and discontinue related legal actions against the Osun State Government.

He stressed that actions by government institutions should not undermine public trust in the credibility, fairness, and transparency of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

Karimi Denies Allegations, Links Political Attacks to Kogi West Governorship Advocacy

Senator Sunday Karimi has dismissed allegations linking him to the arrest of traditional chiefs in Egbe and claims of disrespect toward traditional institutions, describing the accusations as unfounded.

Speaking during a visit to the Agbana of Isanlu on Sunday, August 2, 2026, the senator reaffirmed his respect for traditional rulers across Yagba land and maintained that he played no role in the reported arrests.

Karimi alleged that certain individuals had circulated claims against him in an attempt to damage his reputation, expressing concern that political interests were being used to promote narratives he considers misleading.

He also accused Hon. Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, of aligning with those behind the allegations. Karimi further rejected suggestions that Abejide was instrumental to his election to the Senate, noting that he had previously served two terms in the House of Representatives before becoming a senator.

Addressing political developments in Kogi West, Karimi claimed that opposition to his political position intensified after he advocated for Kogi West to produce the next Governor of Kogi State. He argued that the district deserves an opportunity to occupy the state's highest office and called for mutual respect and cooperation among the three senatorial districts.

The senator urged stakeholders across Kogi State to promote unity, understanding, and inclusive development while allowing each district to pursue its aspirations within a peaceful democratic process.
