After Zulum’s midnight visit, Rehabilitation Commences At Gwoza Hospital

Two weeks after Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, paid a midnight visit and met the General Hospital, Gwoza, in darkness amid dilapidated condition, rehabilitation works have commenced to transform the healthcare centre.

Governor Zulum on July 15, 2023, paid an unscheduled visit to the hospital at midnight.

Zulum was in Gwoza town for humanitarian and developmental activities and soon after his arrival, he visited the health centre for on-the-spot assessment.

The governor was dismayed that patients were left in darkness while the hospital’s condition was deplorable.

Zulum had to use torchlight during his tour of wards to determine functionality of facilities and condition of patients.

The governor directed immediate rehabilitation of the hospital and his directive is now being carried out as confirmed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Special Projects and a Commissioner-designate, Engr. Ibrahim Idriss.

“In compliance with the directive by His Excellency, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, we have mobilized to site and rehabilitation work has commenced at the General Hospital in Gwoza”, Engr Idriss said.

He added, “I want to assure the people of Gwoza that we will ensure that the ongoing work is completed on time to enable people to have quality and affordable healthcare services”.

Tinibu-Kashim North East Youth and Women Network Appoints A Patron:

The Executive members of the movement from the North East had yesterday 1st October, 2022 paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner Ministry of 3Rs Hon. Engr. Mustapha Gubio and presented him with letter of appointed as patron of the movement.

In his opening remarks the secretary of the movement Alhaji Abubakar Usman explained why the movement was initiated in the North East. And that the North East has been devastated and bastadized by the activities of the insurgents, in order to get it out of these odium of mess and backwardness and devastation the Tinibu-Kashim North East Youth and Women Network was formed to support the presidential candidate of the APC Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his vice Senator Kashim Shettima. The movement believes that, in these two gentlemen Tinibu-Kashim, the hopes and greater future of new Nigeria lies.

The Chairman of the movement Comrade Ahmad Lawan has applauded the leadership of His Excellency Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and quality representation of Senator Kashim Shettima which he said would help in liberating the youth and women who are hitherto forgotten and thrown in to the oblivion. He also added that appointing the Hon. Commissioner 3Rs as patron would no doubt add value to the movement.

Other speakers who spoke during the courtesy visit have equally spoken on the importance of the movement and more particularly reasons behind the appointment of Hon. Mustapha Gubio which they said, was purely based on his support and encouragement which he has been extending to the Youth and Women organizations for many years.

National Honours: Buhari approves CON for Zulum

The President, President Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the conferment of CON (Commander of the Order of the Niger) as national honours on Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, announced this in a letter he conveyed to the governor.

“I have the honour to formally inform you that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammad Buhari, GCFR,
has approved the conferment of the National Honours on you, in the rank of CON (Commander of the Order of the Niger)”, Akume wrote.

The minister, in the letter dated September 19, 2022, with reference number Ref: FMSDIGA/NHA/001k/T/90 said the honours investiture will hold in the morning of Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.

National Honours are the highest honours Presidents of most countries confer on citizens who make exceptional contributions in service to their country.

On Tuesday, August 28, 2021, President Mohammed Bazoum of the Republic of Niger decorated Governor Zulum with his country’s Second-Order National Honour, “de Grand Officer Dans I`Ordre”, which is the equivalent of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON, in Nigeria’s ranking of national honours.

Zulum has more than 20 awards majority of them from highest ranking newspapers in Nigeria and from high level professional bodies and academic institutions including from the University of Ibadan, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, amongst others.

The Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Resettlement (MRRR) Engr Mustapha Gubio recieved the audience of the Country Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Nigeria Mr Mohammed Yahaya alongside with Lilian Dawha Head of UNDP Maiduguri sub office and other staffs of the agency.

The country representative of the UNDP while expressing his appreciation and support of the Borno State Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum mni also said the visit is to discuss further ahead of the commissioning of 360 housing units Which comprises of School, Market, Security outpost, trench and other social amenities in Ngaranam community of Mafa LGA.

Mr Yahaya also said with the collaboration of the State government, additional 150 houses will add up to the 360 houses to make it 500 after the commissioning.

Engr Mustapha Gubio while responding to the UNDP officials during the visit highlights areas of interest and area where the agency has completed some projects on Regional Stabilization Facility (RSF) in collaboration with the Borno State government through the ministry of reconstruction rehabilitation and resettlement .

The Honourable Commissioner also urge the UNDP to expedite actions on funding and completion of 500 housing units in Monguno town and also highlights the mobilisation of resources for the reconstruction of Projects in Ngala and Logmani communities.

The Special Adviser on MRRR Hon Abdulrahman AbdulKareem also notes the progress of work in Ngala town despite the challenges of the terrain due to rainy season.

Accreditation: Zulum gifts N81million worths of equipment to UNIMAID

Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum in order to rescue the department of Civil and water resources engineering for failing to pass accreditation, has procured twenty sets of equipment amounting to 81 million naira, among which some are first of its kind in the Northeast to the department.

The Commissioner for higher education, science, technology and innovation, Dr. Babagana Malumbe Mustapha presented the equipments on behalf of the Governor.

Malumbe, explained that the Governor procured the equipments amounting to about 81 million naira on the request of the University, after the department failed to pass accreditation.

"This came as a result of request from the University to the Executive Governor of Borno state, when the department of civil and water resources engineering lost accreditation in the last accreditation excercise." Malumbe said

"And I can remember what his Excellency said then, we cannot afford to be in government and a department in our own faculty will loose accreditation. That's when he immediately directed the ministry to ensure that we procure the equipments."

The Commissioner also observed that the greater percentage of the University are indigenes of Borno state, one of pillers of his administration is education and as a professor who knows the importance of education, hence the promt support to the University.

He further explained that issues of changes in monetary exchange policy hindered the procurement of the equipments on time.

The Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, Professor Aliyu Shugaba, who received the equipments cannot hide his admiration and appreciation to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
