UPDATE ON DISCIPLINARY CASES INVOLVING SIXTEEN OFFICERS INVESTIGATED FOR INDISCIPLINE, BREACH OF SERVICE REGULATIONS

It would be recalled that the Defence Headquarters issued a press statement in October 2025 regarding the arrest of sixteen officers over acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations. The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) wishes to inform the general public that investigations into the matter have been concluded and the report forwarded to appropriate superior authority in line with extant regulations.

The comprehensive investigation process, conducted in accordance with established military procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. The findings have identified a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government which is inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards required of members of the AFN.

Accordingly, those with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before an appropriate military judicial panel to face trial in accordance with the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations. This ensures accountability while upholding the principles of fairness and due process.

The AFN reiterates that measures being taken are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing institutional mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks. The Armed Forces remain resolute in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.

The reason why some people are failing in relationships is that we always carry Past relationships offence to the new one thinking that the present person may still do like the previous one forgetting that we are different.

The Bible teaches that past offenses should be dealt with through forgiveness, repentance, and a deliberate focus on the future.
Forgiveness of Others
The Bible repeatedly commands believers to forgive those who have offended them in the past.

Unlimited Forgiveness: When asked how many times a person should be forgiven, Jesus replied, "seventy-seven times" (or "seventy times seven"), indicating that forgiveness should be limitless.

God as the Model: Believers are urged to forgive others just as God, through Christ, has forgiven them.

A Condition for Forgiveness: Jesus warned that if you do not forgive others for their past offenses, God will not forgive your sins.

Do Not Keep Records: Love is described as not keeping a record of past wrongs. Overlooking an offense is considered a person's "glory" and a sign of wisdom.
Moving Past Personal Failures
For those struggling with their own past sins or mistakes, the Bible offers a path to peace:

Forget the Past: Scripture encourages individuals to "forget the former things" and "not dwell on the past".

Press Forward: The Apostle Paul spoke of "forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead," focusing on the goal of a new life in Christ rather than previous failures.

New Creation: Those "in Christ" are considered a "new creation," where the old has passed away and everything has become new.
Dealing with One's Own Sins

The Bible instructs that past offenses against God or others must be settled through specific steps:

Confession and Repentance: If we confess our sins, God is "faithful and just to forgive us" and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. True repentance involves a "change of mind" and turning away from the sinful path.

Making Restitution: Where possible, individuals are encouraged to make right the wrongs they have committed against others.

God’s Memory: God promises that when He forgives, He "remembers your sins no more" and removes them "as far as the east is from the west".

THE PRIMARY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A COMMISSIONED OFFICER AND A NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (NCO) LIES IN THE SOURCE OF THEIR AUTHORITY, THEIR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, AND THEIR CORE RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN THE CHAIN OF COMMAND.

Key Differences are as follows:

Source of Authority: Commissioned officers receive their authority from a formal "commission" granted by a head of state (such as the President Of Nigeria or the Sovereign in the UK). NCOs derive their authority through promotion and appointment by military leadership within their specific branch.

Education & Entry:
Commissioned Officers typically enter at a management level, often requiring a bachelor's degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or completion of a military academy (e.g. NDA).

NCOs are enlisted personnel who have worked their way up from the lowest ranks (e.g., Private) through experience, Courses attended and demonstrating leadership potential.

Leadership Role:
Commissioned Officers focus on "big picture" management, strategic planning, and overall mission command. They lead entire units (platoons, companies, etc.

NCOs are often called the "backbone" of the military. They act as frontline supervisors, technical experts, and trainers who execute the plans developed by commissioned officers.

Rank Hierarchy: All commissioned officers outrank all NCOs. Even a newly commissioned Second Lieutenant technically outranks the most senior NCO (such as a Sergeant Major), though senior NCOs often serve as vital mentors to junior officers.

Salary: Commissioned officers generally receive higher pay and benefits compared to NCOs, though pay for both increases with rank and years of service.

PRESS RELEASE

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI Foil Coordinated Terrorist Attacks, Neutralise Scores in Follow-Up Operations

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again demonstrated resilience, professionalism and superior combat capability by decisively foiling coordinated terrorist attacks across parts of Adamawa and Borno States, while inflicting heavy losses on fleeing terrorists during follow-up operations.

In the early hours of 16 January 2026, terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali LGA of Adamawa State under Sector 4 OPHK. Alert troops swiftly engaged the attackers, supported by reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force. The terrorists were successfully repelled without any casualty to own troops and equipment, forcing them to abandon the attack. The general area was subsequently cleared and scanned for Improvised Explosive Devices and b***y traps to ensure civilian and troop safety.

In a related development on the same day, terrorists launched a large-scale, multi-directional attack on Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Borno State. The attackers initially attempted to breach part of the defensive perimeter but were met with overwhelming and sustained firepower from gallant troops with support from the Air Component and other Nigerian Army aerial platforms. After a prolonged firefight lasting over an hour, the terrorists were decisively overpowered and forced to withdraw.

During the engagement, terrorists' Rocket Propelled Gr***de (RPG) fire affected Troop Carrying Vehicles and the CCTV control room which were partially gutted by fire. Despite this, troops maintained firm control of the situation. Several terrorist weapons and ammunition, including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, locally fabricated explosives, heavy machine gun rounds and hundreds of rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, were recovered from the terrorists.

Crucially, this engagement did not end at the FOB. Persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms immediately tracked the fleeing terrorists, enabling follow-up operations along identified withdrawal routes by the Air Component of OPHK. The precision strikes by the Nigerian Airforce platforms resulted in the neutralisation of additional scores of the terrorists, dealing a severe blow to the group’s fighting strength and morale. Evidence from the exploitation confirmed that the terrorists suffered heavy casualties.

The sacrifices of personnel underscores the overall commitment of troops in securing lives and the troops of OPHK remain resolute and unwavering in their mandate to deny terrorists freedom of action, dismantle their networks and protect the integrity of the North East region. Operations continue until all threats are eliminated.
