BENUE 2027: Dr. Tor Uja Unveils Economic Revival Plan, Begins Stakeholder Consultations in Lobi

Governorship aspirant in Benue State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rev. Dr. Tor Uja, has commenced consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 elections, starting with the Lobi intermediate area.

During the meeting held on April 23, 2026, Dr. Uja outlined his vision for transforming Benue’s economy through the revival of moribund industries and the establishment of new ones. He emphasized that the state’s abundant agricultural and natural resources, if properly harnessed and processed, could significantly boost economic growth and reduce post-harvest losses.
He lamented the decline of industries in the state and warned against overdependence on external production.

The former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC) also pledged to improve security by strengthening security agencies and supporting local outfits, noting that development cannot thrive without safety.

He promised to invest in sports and entertainment to re-engage young people and curb social vices. He further proposed the creation of a Ministry of Urban Development to oversee the establishment of 40 urban centers across local government areas, aimed at decentralizing development.

Dr. Uja also pledged inclusive governance, stating that 65% of his administration’s focus would be on youth empowerment, alongside deliberate inclusion of women and the elderly.

He added that contracts would be awarded to indigenous contractors to stimulate the local economy, while also promising significant investments in education and healthcare, with special attention to the girl-child.

Stakeholders from Guma and Makurdi expressed strong support for his candidacy, describing him as a credible and experienced leader.

Dr. Uja expressed confidence in the PDP’s prospects in the 2027 elections, promising to govern with integrity and a sense of responsibility if elected

Habari Network Africa | 16th April 2026

A Makurdi-based law firm, Agbali P.O & Co. Corporate Consultants, has issued a formal pre-action notice to Mr. Atsua Terkuma Samuel, who is both a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and Media Aide to the Ukum Local Government Chairman, over an alleged case of assault involving their client, Mr. Akaazua Ushahhemba Philemon.

According to the letter dated April 16, 2026, the incident reportedly occurred on April 9, 2026, at Zaki-Biam market in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The legal representatives allege that Mr. Akaazua was peacefully moving about his daily business when he was confronted by Mr. Atsua. The confrontation allegedly escalated into a violent encounter.

The firm further claims that Mr. Atsua made phone calls that led to the arrival of a group of individuals who allegedly assaulted their client, inflicting severe injuries.
As a result of the incident, Mr. Akaazua was reportedly hospitalized at Wan-Nyikwagh Hospital in Yandev, Gboko Local Government Area, where he is receiving treatment for both physical injuries and psychological trauma.

The firm demands:
A formal written apology to be delivered personally to the victim and published in two national newspapers as well as on Mr. Atsua’s page.

Payment of ₦500,000 as compensation to cover medical expenses, transportation, repair of damaged personal property, and other related costs.

The letter further states that failure to comply within 48 hours may result in legal action, including petitions to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for disciplinary measures, possible criminal prosecution, and a fundamental human rights enforcement suit.

As of the time of this report, Mr. Atsua Terkuma Samuel has not publicly responded to the allegations.

The development has sparked conversations around rising political tensions and alleged acts of violence in parts of Benue State.
