NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and members of the NFF Executive Committee have reportedly resigned following weeks of mounting pressure over the disappointing performances of Nigeria’s national teams.

Official confirmation from the NFF is still awaited.

The next step should be a comprehensive reset and restructuring of Nigerian football, including a review of the governing frameworks and the overall football ecosystem.

A Normalisation Committee is therefore likely to be established. However, such a move would require FIFA’s involvement and approval, as the process cannot be undertaken independently of the world football governing body.

BREAKING: The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has scheduled the hearing in the dispute between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) over the rightful winner of the 2025 CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The case will be heard on 8 October in Lausanne, Switzerland.

According to a CAS statement, the appeal, which was officially registered on 25 March 2026, challenges CAF's decision to award Morocco a 3-0 victory after ruling that Senegal had forfeited the AFCON 2025 final. The FSF is asking CAS to overturn CAF's ruling and officially declare Senegal as the 2025 AFCON champions.

CAS also confirmed that both parties declined to fast-track the proceedings, meaning the case will follow the tribunal's standard procedures. After consulting both federations, 8 October was agreed as the hearing date. Since neither side requested a public hearing, the proceedings will take place behind closed doors.

Following the hearing, the CAS panel will begin its deliberations. However, the court stated that it cannot yet indicate when a final verdict will be delivered, stressing that no decision will be announced on the day of the hearing.

World Cup matches in the United States could face lengthy delays due to strict lightning safety regulations.

If lightning is detected within roughly 13km of a stadium, play must be suspended immediately, with players sent to the dressing rooms and supporters moved to safety.

Matches can only resume after 30 minutes without another lightning strike. Every new strike resets the countdown, meaning some games could be delayed for hours. ⛈️

Arsenal’s 2026/27 season will begin with the Community Shield against Manchester City at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, August 16.

The Premier League fixtures will be released on Friday, June 19 at 10am BST, with the opening game set for Friday, August 21.

The league season will conclude on Sunday, May 30, with all 10 final-day matches kicking off simultaneously.

In cup competitions, Arsenal will enter the Carabao Cup in the third round due to Champions League participation, while their FA Cup campaign will begin from the third round as well.

❗️ FIFA has confirmed a number of new rule changes for the 2026 World Cup.

🔹 Throw-ins must be taken within 5 seconds, otherwise possession will be awarded to the opposing team.

🔹 Goal kicks will also be subject to a 5-second limit to prevent time-wasting, with corner kicks potentially awarded as a punishment.

🔹 Substituted players will now have just 10 seconds to leave the field. Otherwise, their team will temporarily be forced to play with 10 men.

🔹 Players receiving medical treatment on the pitch must remain off the field for 60 seconds in most situations.

🔹 Covering the mouth during heated arguments may now result in a red card.

🔹 VAR will be able to quickly review corner-kick decisions before play is restarted.

🚨 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟: FIFA has announced new rules for the 2026 World Cup:

✅ Fast substitutions: The substituted player will have a maximum of 10 seconds to leave the pitch.

If they take longer, their replacement must wait one minute before entering, leaving the team temporarily with one player less.

✅ Time control on restarts: A 5-second timer will be applied for throw-ins and goal kicks.

Exceeding this time will result in loss of possession.

✅ Medical treatment off the pitch: A player receiving treatment on the field must leave and wait one minute before returning, unless the injury was caused by a card-worthy foul.

✅ VAR expansion: VAR will be able to review second yellow cards leading to a sending-off, as well as wrongly awarded corners.

✅ Captain & referees: The rule that only the captain can approach the referee is reinforced; other players risk a yellow card if they crowd the referee.

CAF has officially unveiled a major overhaul of its national team competitions!

The African Nations Championship (CHAN) is being replaced by a brand new competition structure called the African Nations League (a replica of the European Nations League).

This means:

1. African Nations League – Continental
- To be played every year
- Starts with regional zone qualifiers
- Top teams advance to a final tournament hosted in one country
- All players eligible, including Europe-based stars

2. African Nations League – Pan-African
- Held every 2 years
- Features 24 teams in a format similar to the Africa Cup of Nations

3. AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations)
- Now shifted to every 4 years
- Remains Africa’s premier flagship competition
