“Let’s Go Back to Agriculture” — But How?

I was watching the news when someone advised that we should all go back to agriculture and make good money from farming.

Honestly, that statement made me think deeply because I have actually tried.

I planted rice and spent thousands of naira on the farm, including money for spraying and other expenses. Only for us to discover that cows had cleared the whole farm.

I happen to be married into a place where, because of the insecurity around herders and farmers, you can hardly feel free to step into your own farmland in Logo. When I was trying to manage things at my husband’s maternal home in Hyarev, the situation was also difficult because of the presence of herdsmen occupying the area.

I eventually had to look towards Nasarawa for somewhere I could farm and manage. And now, this has happened again.

So when I hear someone say, “We should go back to agriculture and make cool money,” I honestly ask myself: How?

How do you farm when accessing your land safely is a problem?

How do you encourage people to invest their little savings when one incident can wipe out everything before harvest?

Agriculture can absolutely help Nigeria. But farmers need more than advice. We need secure farmland, protection for our crops, affordable inputs, good roads, storage facilities and a reliable market where farmers can actually make a profit.

Let’s encourage agriculture, yes. But let’s also fix the conditions that make farming difficult.

Because behind every destroyed farm is somebody’s money, hard work, hope and livelihood.

Stop explaining yourself to people who have already decided to misunderstand you.

Your peace is more valuable than proving your heart to everyone.

Let them think what they want.
Let them talk.
Let them misunderstand.

You know who you are, and God knows your heart.

Not every accusation deserves a response. Sometimes silence is maturity. 🤍
