In a determined effort to establish a stable presence in Ukum Local Government, Hon. Jonathan Modi has nearly completed a temporary residential home for the chairman. This move comes despite several challenges, as he remains committed to ensuring effective governance. It will be recalled that the official residence of the Ukum Local Government chairman was burned down during a violent protest late last year, creating difficulties in securing an official accommodation.

During a recent inspection of the construction site, Hon. Modi urged engineers to expedite the project, emphasizing its importance for his swift relocation. He reiterated that settling at home is crucial for overseeing governance effectively and addressing the needs of the people firsthand.

Ukum LG Chairman Intervenes in Market Dispute, Restores Order in Zaki-Biam

The Executive Chairman of Ukum Local Government, Hon. Jonathan Modi, has successfully intervened in a market dispute between fresh fish sellers and dried fish sellers in Zaki-Biam. The dispute arose when dried fish sellers attempted to take over the designated space allocated for fresh fish sellers, causing tension along the Wukari Junction – Ugba Road.

While addressing the traders, Hon. Modi emphasized the importance of orderliness, stating that all sellers must remain in their allocated spaces despite the increasing number of traders in the market. He also issued a directive that all fish sellers who hawk their products along the roadside—thereby causing traffic congestion—must relocate to their designated sites immediately to restore order and ease movement in the area.

In his continuous effort to decongest the roads, the chairman held discussions with the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Wukari Junction. He assured them that a temporary site would be provided within the week to facilitate their relocation. "I will secure a temporary site for you within the week so that you can operate from there. This will significantly reduce traffic congestion and enhance order in town," he assured.

Furthermore, Hon. Modi inspected the Zaki-Biam abattoir and expressed dissatisfaction over its deteriorating condition. He assured the butchers and stakeholders of his administration’s commitment to improving the facility, ensuring a cleaner and more hygienic environment for meat processing.

The chairman reaffirmed his dedication to restoring order, improving infrastructure, and ensuring a more organized business environment in Zaki-Biam and beyond.
