Allegations of Unpaid Royalties Spark Tension Around Crayon and Don Jazzy
A social media post circulating online has stirred discussion in Nigeria’s music industry, alleging that Nigerian singer Crayon is experiencing financial disputes related to unpaid royalties from his record label.
According to the post shared by commentator Danny Of Owerri on X (formerly Twitter), the singer has allegedly not received his share of revenue despite claims that his music generated significant earnings over the past two years. The post suggested that total revenue from his work could be around ₦500 billion, with the artist reportedly entitled to a percentage.
The report also claimed that tensions developed between Crayon and his label boss, Don Jazzy, founder of Mavin Records. According to the post, the disagreement may have been influenced by the prominence of other label stars such as Rema and Ayra Starr, who are perceived as the label’s main flagship acts.
The claims further allege that Crayon had previously requested financial assistance from the label for his mother’s medical care but did not receive support. The post also mentioned that the singer has publicly expressed frustration toward certain spiritual leaders, including Chris Oyakhilome, popularly known as Pastor Chris, suggesting spiritual influences behind his current challenges.
As of now, neither Crayon nor Mavin Records has issued an official statement confirming or denying the allegations. Industry observers note that disputes over royalties and contract terms are not uncommon in the global music business, particularly as streaming revenues and artist-label agreements evolve.
Many fans online have called for clarification from both parties, while others expressed hope that the situation will be resolved amicably.
