GOVERNOR ALIA FLAGS-OFF RECONSTRUCTION AND DUALIZATION OF 55.09 KM OF ROADS NETWORK

Governor Hyacinth Alia has kicked off the reconstruction and dualisation of 55.09 kilometres of roads in Gboko and surrounding areas, marking a major infrastructure move for Benue State. The project, flagged off on Tuesday at Lubona Junction, is valued at ₦62.135 billion and is scheduled for completion within five months, according to the Ministry of Works.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s support for making the project possible and voiced confidence that the President will soon commission what he described as massive road infrastructure in the state.

Governor Alia noted that the Gboko network will become the second-longest road network in Benue, alongside other ongoing works such as the 57km roads in Benue South, including the Awajir–Oju road, and urged contractors to deliver before campaign season begins.

Engineering officials detailed key routes under the project, including Yandev Roundabout–Lubona Junction, Captain Dawns Road, NKST Anzua Link Road, Bristow Roundabout–Tor Tiv Palace Road, J.S. Tarka–Mkar Roundabout, Tor Tiv Roundabout–Lessel Road, and the Gondo Aluor–Mkar–Ameladu dual carriageway. Jamud Construction pledged immediate mobilisation, while Gboko leaders and stakeholders hailed the development as a long-awaited facelift for the township and called for more roads, including the Gboko–Mbatierev Road, to receive attention.

FG Reaffirms Commitment to Completing the Otukpo Multipurpose Dam to Boost Water Supply, Power and Agriculture in Benue State

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Otukpo Multipurpose Dam in Benue State. The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, gave the assurance during an inspection of the project site at Otobi Akpa in Otukpo Local Government Area, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on sustainable water resource management.

Utsev said the assessment was aimed at identifying projects requiring urgent intervention, including uncompleted dams and facilities facing structural or operational challenges. He noted that the completion of the Otukpo Dam would significantly improve water supply and sanitation while supporting the administration’s broader development agenda.

The minister explained that the project would deliver major benefits, including a reservoir capacity of 130 million cubic metres, a 3.3-megawatt hydropower plant, potable water supply, irrigation for 2,000 hectares of farmland and 13 kilometres of access roads. He added that the dam would also create jobs and boost agriculture, power generation and tourism in Benue State.

BENUE STATE GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES STATEWIDE DISTRIBUTION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING MATERIALS

The Benue State Government has flagged off the distribution of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) donated by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to public basic education schools across the state. The exercise was officially launched on Monday at the headquarters of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Makurdi.

Performing the flag-off on behalf of Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Barr. Sam Ode, mni, reaffirmed that basic education remains the foundation of child development and emphasized that the provision of teaching and learning materials is critical to achieving quality education outcomes. He described the intervention as a reflection of Governor Alia’s strong commitment to repositioning the education sector, citing consistent payment of counterpart funds, classroom construction and rehabilitation, recruitment of over 9,000 teachers, and sustained collaboration with UBEC.

The Deputy Governor cautioned Education Secretaries to ensure that the materials are delivered strictly to the designated public schools, warning that any diversion would attract sanctions. In her remarks, UBEC Executive Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Garba, represented by the North Central Director, Elder Edward Abalaka, commended the Benue State Government for its consistency and assured continued support for strengthening basic education in the state.

SUBEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Grace Adagba, explained that the materials ranging from textbooks and computers to smart boards and early childhood learning resources were carefully selected to enhance literacy, digital learning, and classroom engagement. She thanked Governor Alia for his sustained support, noting that the intervention would significantly improve teaching and learning outcomes in basic schools across Benue State.

Governor Hyacinth Alia on Monday night, joined key APC leaders at the inaugural meeting of the party’s Strategy, Conflict Resolution, and Mobilisation Committee in Abuja.

The meeting, which marked the formal take-off of the high-level committee, was hosted by the chairman, Governor Mala Buni of Yobe State, at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge.

Others in the committee who attended the meeting include Governor Uzodimma, Governor Fubara, Governor Alia, Governor Sheriff, Governor Sani, Governor Oyebanji, Defence Minister (State) Bello Matawalle, Blue Economy Minister Oyetola, former Governor Yahaya Bello, Senator Aleiro, former APC National Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire and President Tinubu's SSA on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.

The committee was constituted by President Tinubu on December 24, 2025 to address internal party challenges, strengthen unity, and boost grassroots mobilisation nationwide, with Governor Alia’s participation underscoring Benue State’s strategic role in the party’s cohesion efforts.
