STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE

NORTH-CENTRAL: PRESIDENTIAL MEDIA TEAM INSPECTS FEDERAL, BENUE PROJECTS AS RESIDENTS HAIL TINUBU’S INFRASTRUCTURE DRIVE, PLEDGE SUPPORT IN 2027

The Presidential Media Team, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Ambassadors on Thursday inspected key Federal and Benue State governments' infrastructure projects across the state, where residents commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for expanding connectivity through strategic road and bridge projects.

The inspection covered the ongoing Buruku-Logo Bridge, the Wurukum Overhead Bridge in Makurdi, the 22-kilometre Makurdi-Gboko Road, and major state infrastructure projects, including the completed High-Level Roundabout Interchange in Makurdi and the Gboko Underpass and Interchange.

The Makurdi-Gboko Road forms part of Phase II of the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Expressway, a strategic corridor linking North Central Nigeria with the South-East. It is expected to be completed by December 2027.

The Renewed Hope Ambassadors’ National Media Tour, which has over 40 editors and journalists in the delegation, is designed to independently assess, document and showcase the implementation and impact of key Federal and State governments' projects under President Tinubu’s administration.

The delegation was led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Speaking during the inspection, Onanuga said the Buruku-Logo Bridge is one of five Federal Government bridges under construction in Benue State and demonstrates the administration’s commitment to investing borrowed funds in productive infrastructure.

He said the project would reconnect previously isolated communities, reduce travel time, improve access to markets for farmers and strengthen economic integration across Benue, Taraba and Adamawa states.

According to him, the projects are being financed through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, assuring that funding remains adequate for timely completion.

"This bridge in particular is the fifth bridge the Federal Government is building in Benue State. I think as Nigerians you see that the government has been accused of so many things including taking loans. You can now see where the money is going. It is to develop infrastructure, to link people who have been forgotten before, to make sure that at least commerce flows freely.

"Farmers can get their products straight to the market, they can shorten the travel time between one community and the other, especially between the rural areas and the capital. You can see that this one where we are now, the one in Buruku is going to affect three states, Taraba, Adamawa and to link all of them together to Benue and of course it means to Nigeria," Onanuga said.

The team also inspected the ongoing 25.6-kilometre Captain Dan Road from Lubona Junction to the Tor Tiv Palace, the Food Basket Brewery Limited in Makurdi, and the Federal Government-funded rehabilitation of the Buruku-Gboko Water Treatment Plant at Ameladu Headworks, one of the state’s largest water infrastructure projects.

A major highlight of the tour was the inspection of the 1,754-metre Buruku-Logo Bridge. The project links agrarian communities across the River Benue, provides access to neighbouring Taraba State and is expected to boost agriculture, commerce and regional integration. The contractor also employs more than 50 workers from the host community.

Residents expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for prioritising infrastructure that addresses longstanding transportation challenges.

They described the bridge as a life-saving intervention that would end years of dangerous river crossings and improve the livelihoods of surrounding communities. They also expect the bridge, on completion, to eliminate frequent boat accidents experienced during the rainy season while creating employment opportunities for local youths engaged on the project.

Many residents also pledged continued support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, saying the visible impact of ongoing projects had renewed public confidence in the Federal Government.

Speaking with journalists, the Deputy Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ode, said the state remained grateful for the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments and expressed confidence that the people would strongly support President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

He described the ongoing Wurukum Overhead Bridge as a critical intervention on the Abuja-Lafia-Makurdi-Enugu corridor, noting that the junction had for years been notorious for severe traffic congestion, particularly during festive periods.

According to him, President Tinubu approved the project following a request by Governor Hyacinth Alia, and construction is progressing rapidly.

The Deputy Governor also highlighted the state government’s investment in the Makurdi Central Interchange and Underpass, describing it as a transformative project that connects key routes linking Government House, the Central Business District, Wurukum and the Abuja-Enugu highway, while significantly improving traffic flow within the state capital.

"Actually, this road serves as the gateway between the north of the country and the south. Before now we used to have a heavy gridlock here especially during festivities, so the governor of Benue State approached Mr. President for us to have an overhead bridge here.

"The President in his magnanimity, graciously approved the construction of this overhead bridge. So work has commenced, moving at a very high speed and the people of Benue are happy because we used to experience quite a lot of difficulties at this point.”

JECHIRA DESERVES BETTER REPRESENTATION:

For over three years, Konshisha Local Government has remained in darkness. Despite this challenge, the Executive Chairman of Konshisha Local Government, Hon.Chikyaa Moses Terfa took bold steps to restore electricity by facilitating the reconnection of damaged power lines and the repair of faulty transformers across the local government.

Unfortunately, these commendable efforts were allegedly sabotaged by individuals who feared that the young chairman's achievements would win him greater public support.

In Awajir, the hometown of the member representing Jechira, one of the transformers was damaged beyond repair. Several appeals were reportedly made for assistance, but they yielded no positive response.

Thankfully, Dr. Livinus Adzer Tsar, the APC flag bearer for the Jechira Federal Constituency, stepped in and donated a 33KV transformer to replace the damaged one.

The important questions are:

Where in Jechira can anyone point to a transformer donated by the current member representing the constituency?

Does Jechira not have electricity challenges that deserve attention?

The people of Jechira deserve representation that responds to their needs, delivers practical solutions, and stands with communities in difficult times.

The conversation should always be about service, accountability, and development for all.

PRESS STATEMENT

Welcome to a New Workweek.

BENUE HAS LEFT EGYPT; WE MUST RESIST TEMPTATIONS TO LOOK BACK.

Monday, August 3, 2026

We wish to express our profound appreciation to the dear people of Benue State for their unwavering support, resilience, and prayers as we continue on the path of rewriting the factual version of Benue State under the purposeful leadership of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia .

As we begin a new working week today, we find it expedient to remind ourselves that pure transformation is never achieved without resistance.

Governor Alia, who has chosen to lead the way for change, was not oblivious to the fact that entrenched interests who were both comfortable and indifferent with periods of stagnation, decay, and institutional collapse will naturally feel uncomfortable with the emergence of a new Benue founded on transparency, accountability, and people-centred governance.

This explains why desperate attempts being made daily through falsehoods, misinformation, and propaganda to distract the government and undermine the remarkable progress being recorded across our state are not coming as a surprise to us, and should not be to the good people of the state.

Our joy remains that our people are witnesses to reality. They can see the unprecedented interventions in road networks spanning the three geopolitical zones.

The massive investments in education through the renovation and construction of schools and resuscitation of the system with over 9,000 manpower; they can see improvements in healthcare infrastructure, housing, agriculture, security interventions, youth employment, civil service reforms, and the establishment of industries as well as revival of moribund state-owned enterprises. These are not promises; they are tangible achievements visible in our communities.

Our sincere call to our people, therefore, is for them to keep supporting the governor and remain faithful, not to be swayed by those whose only agenda is to drag Benue back to an era that brought untold hardship and underdevelopment.

Benue has departed Egypt. We must resist being persuaded to return to bo***ge. Our collective journey towards a prosperous, secure, and economically vibrant state must remain our shared commitment.

We welcome and understand our people when they keep calling the Governor's attention to other decaying infrastructure in different sectors across the state. It is a confirmation that the challenges we inherited were enormous. A reasonable number of years of neglect had weakened institutions, eroded public confidence, and slowed development. In just three years, Governor Hyacinth Alia has worked tirelessly to restore hope, rebuild critical infrastructure, reposition government institutions, and lay a solid foundation for sustainable growth.

We also acknowledged the fact that while much has been accomplished, there is still much more to be done.

This has led to our sincere call on every Benue son and daughter, irrespective of political, ethnic, or religious affiliation, to remain steadfast in supporting this administration.

Let us continue to pray for our governor, that God grants him wisdom, strength, and divine protection as he leads our state through this historic period of renewal.

History has shown that great societies are built by citizens who choose hope over despair, truth over falsehood, and progress over regression.

Therefore, as a people redirected, we must reject with all vehement divisive narratives and remain focused on the brighter future that is steadily unfolding before us.

We must come together and protect the gains already made, support the ongoing reforms, and give our dear Governor the opportunity to consolidate on the solid foundation he has laid so that Benue can attain the greatness its people truly deserve.

Wishing you a fruitful week.

Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, PhD .

Speaking during the dinner held on Sunday evening, Dr. Adagba said the event was organized after she carefully observed the activities of numerous media advocates on various social media platforms. She commended their resilience, consistency, and voluntary efforts in projecting the programmes and accomplishments of the Alia administration.

She noted that while many individuals have contributed significantly to promoting the administration's developmental strides, she carefully selected a few she could personally reach and invite as a token of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices.

According to the SUBEB Boss, the dinner was her personal way of expressing gratitude to the media advocates for their support of Governor Alia and their role in keeping the public informed about the government's achievements.

In her goodwill message, the SUBEB Chairperson charged the promoters of good governance to remain steadfast, resilient, and focused. She urged them to continue engaging critics and opposition voices with maturity, civility, and respect, while emphasizing the importance of patience.

According to her, they are working for a leader who values loyalty, recognizes dedication, and rewards commitment at the appropriate time.

The evening was rounded off with moments of merriment and photographs, creating an atmosphere of a renewed commitment to the shared vision of a better Benue.
