WHY IS TOR TIV SO QUIET WHEN HIS KINGDOM IS UNDER ATTACK WITH THE PEOPLE HE TOOK AN OATH TO RULE AND PROTECT?
The motive for the establishment of the traditional council of the Tiv kingdom was not just for titles but for the purpose of restoring the dignity of the Tiv ethnic group as well as preserving our unique tradition, culture, and religion. This was facilitated by our veteran sons of Tiv who agitated and pursue their dislodgement from the Sokoto caliphate to have their own king to overseer the affairs of their land on internal security, protecting boundaries from the enemy and having voice to the vulnerable people within the kingdom from the instinctive oppressors. This battle was won and the Tiv people benefited from the struggle until today.
The Tiv kingdom was regarded as one of the strongest kingdom in the 18th century due to their resiliency in protecting their territory from the jihadist, interwar dispute, conquerors, and their ability to survive in adversities without help from anywhere. This gave the Tiv people the motivation and courage to be united and sacrificed their lives when mandatory to defend their land. That has created the comfortable environment for the descendants of this kingdom for generations.
Tiv kingdom is now exactly as without a King, there is no single or little attempt to make our people feel like they have a traditionally instated leader that can hear their cries and fight for them. Our people are running helplessly leaving the dead bodies of their relatives and love ones and no actions are taken against the evil happening in our land. Starvation have engulfed these people while our leaders sleep in luxury houses and eat whatever they want, send their children in secured schools and environments and they are being paid for the throne of a traditional ruler. If our traditional rulers cannot help our people until this moment, I am sorry to say this “the entire institution is not useful” to the people.
