ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: GOVERNOR ABUBAKAR SANI BELLO URGES SECURITY AGENCIES TO REMAIN RESOLUTE TO END INSECURITY

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State says the security agencies should remain resolute to end the security challenges bedeviling the country.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed this at the 2022 Nigeria Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Permanent Cenotaph, Minna.
He commended the men of Nigeria Armed Forces and other security agencies for protecting the lives of the people especially in dealing with insurgency and criminal elements, urging them not to relent.

The governor urged them to continue to protect the integrity of the nation, promising the support of the state government towards ending insecurity.

The Governor acknowledged that the country has lost fine men and women of the armed forces in the line of duty which is why they are being remembered today, pointing out that their efforts will not be forgotten.

“My call is on the military to remain resolute. Today is a special day where we come to remember our fallen heroes that have lost their lives in wars and in the course of their assignments”, he said.

For the widows of the fallen heroes, the governor stated that the state government is intensifying efforts to enroll them into skills acquisition programme to make them self-reliant.

The wreath laying was performed by Governor Sani Bello along with the heads of security chiefs in the state, the head of the state traditional council and the chairman of Nigerian Legion, Niger State Chapter and the representative of the widows of the fallen heroes.

Highlights of the event was the release of pigeons as symbol of peace, exchange of pleasantries with the widows of the fallen heroes and members of the legions as well as the inspection of guard of honour by the Governor.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and detained a nephew of Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, former governor of Sokoto State who was supplying arms, ammunition, and military kits to bandits in Zamfara State.

The police had last week arrested the suspect identified as Musa Mohammed Kamarawa.

SaharaReporters learnt that he is currently being detained at the NPF headquarters in Abuja.

He was arrested by the Special Tactical Squad.

Sources told Reporters that Bafarawa, who has been uneasy with the arrest of his relation, has been putting pressure on the police for Kamarawa’s release.

He was however told the suspect could not be released as Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State was involved and ready to report to President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is a relative of the former Governor of Sokoto, Attahiru Bafarawa caught by security agents as arms and military kits’ suppliers to bandits,” a police source said.

“He has been under detention with Force Headquarters for about a week. Bafarawa has been putting pressure for his release but they told him they can't release him since Matawalle is aware, that he will report them to the President.”

Governor Bagudu approves N6 Billion for the payment of retired workers gratuity

The Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has graciously approved the release of 6 billion Naira for the payment of State, Local Government and LGEA workers gratuity. Retired workers who disengaged from service in 2017 and 2018 and had received part payment of their gratuity will be paid their remaining balance. While other retirees from 2019,2020 and 2021 will also receive payment of their gratuity.

This happy development was part of the outcome of an earlier meeting today between the Chairman, Audit Committee for State and Local Government Pensioners, Acting Head of the Civil Service and the state Chairman, NLC.

It was unanimously agreed that labour Unions and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners should be involved in all stages in the preparation and payment of gratuity to the deserving retirees.

This is to ensure probity and accountability in the process of payment.

This announcement is contained in a statement signed by the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Safiyanu Garba Bena and made available to the newsmen on Friday.

The statement further stated that, the invaluable gesture of the governor is in line with his administration's policy and aspiration towards improving the general welfare of the retired workers in the state.

Arrangements for the payment will commence as from next week Monday, the 17th of January, 2022.
