BREAKING NEWS: WOMAN CRUSHED BY TRAILER AT SAINT JOHN JUNCTION, BIDA
A tragic accident occurred at Saint John Junction, Bida, in the afternoon hour of yesterday when a woman known as Safiya Salihu Larai of Emi Chiroma Nupe Bida fell off a motorcycle and was crushed by a moving trailer.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to RukotoTV that, Safiya Salihu Larai was on a bike riding by her husband, who swerved to avoid the truck, leading to the fatal fall.
She has been buried according to Islamic rite on Monday 10th February, 2025.
Saint John Junction has become a notorious accident spot due to reckless overtaking by trucks and motorcycles.
Some residents of Bida lament the rising death toll caused by trailers with over 30 lives lost in the past year.
Concerned citizens are calling on the government to expedite work on the Bida Ring Road to prevent further tragedies.
Concerned residents and youth groups in Bida have petitioned also the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, over the indiscriminate parking of tanker drivers along major roadsides in the town. The petition, backed by associations including Nupe Excel, Landzun Youth Development Association, Bida 70s, and Eid Youth Association Bida, highlights the dangers posed by the practice and calls for urgent government intervention.
According to the petitioners, the presence of parked tankers has led to an increase in road accidents, environmental hazards due to flammable substances, traffic congestion, and rising security concerns. They argue that the situation has become a major threat to the safety and well-being of residents.
The community is urging the Speaker to facilitate enforcement of strict regulations against roadside parking, the creation of designated parking areas, and improved road safety measures.
